I think Paul should withdraw. He's riding a wave of confidence, rest up for Wimbledon.

Call me crazy, but I'm going with Bublik to win Eastbourne.
looks like he did...just checked draw, a lucky loser is in his spot at the bottom of the draw

wondering about Pegula too

LOL @ Ruud not playing a single grass warm up. Even when he did a few years ago didn't he lose to Peniston? Seems he's given up on the surface more than Osaka had given up on clay/grass a few years ago and now she's finally given them both a proper shot. I supported Ruud a lot between 2018 and 2023 but this sort of approach just doesn't sit well with me. I'm not sure whether he's just content after 3x GS RU finishes, it certainly seems like he's resigned to having no hope on grass which makes me wonder why he doesn't just make up an injury... Are his sponsors ok with this approach?

Maybe he’s training on clay for the Olympics?

ATG's like Lend and Agassi also skipped a couple Wimbledon's early in their respective careers, so it's not unprecedented. I like Casper, but I also am disappointed at his approach to grass.

Isn't he like the only player taking this approach? All the other top players have played a grass event or multiple events and he's just practicing on grass. It's screaming R1 loss unless he plays some mug.

Paul and Sinner have won the flagship grass tune up events for Wimbledon. Eastbourne is a great event and super crucial for players to get more match play in before Wimbledon but it doesn't hold the same prestige that's for sure. Paul will be eyeing up a career best run at Wimbledon that's for sure so I think he's done the right thing.

Norrie still in the doldrums. Knocked out in R1 by Ruusuvouri.

I fear Norrie is in decline. Early exits in 8 of the 12 events he has played this year including this one. His ranking has fallen as low as #44 and, at this rate, he'll soon be out of the top #50!

I mentioned this in another thread as he is the only top #10 player (apart from the injured Djokovic who rarely plays them anyway) who is playing none of the grasscourt events leading up to Wimbledon. Seems very strange. A top player should not give up on any of the 3 surfaces even if he thinks they don't suit his game!

He's literally the worst grass court player at the top of the rankings until you encounter clay courters yet they're in the warm up events grafting to try and get more familiar with it.

Maybe they've just realised he won't do well with the forehand he has? Possibly not wanting to adjust it to the surface but then again Nadal's game translated to grass.

Exactly. You can't give up. You have to try.

I have noticed Swiatek is also not playing a warm up. I know her results are better on grass than CR's but I also find it odd if you're looking to achieve anything at Wimbledon.

IMO a world #1 should aim to win or at least make a final at all 4 of the Slams. If Swiatek thinks she can do this without the need for grass warmups (a la Borg or Djokovic) fair play to her but, if she just doesn't care, then it's a big black mark against her no matter how many weeks she racks up in the top spot. Radwanska made a Wimbledon final and Hurkacz has won Halle and just made another final there so she's out of synch with them. Hope she will get her act together for this most important surface.

He certainly seems to have decided that grass is not worth investing in probably because he’s only ever managed to win one match at WB, so why bother as his game is ill suited to a very short grass season. May as well rest up during what is a very long year on tour.

Its the third year in a row that she plays by far most matches of any top player male or female, sweeping every clay season also doesn't help getting grass practice. She almost never plays 500 or 250 tournaments on any surface not only grass and there are Olimpics after Wimbledon on clay. I think if you add all these reasons together you will get good explaination why she doesn't play tour grass tournaments.

She reached the quarters of Wimbledon last year. Let's see how far she will go this year?

Agassi skipped Wimbledon early in his career. He famously won W in 1982 having played nothing on grass and arriving 36 hours before his 1R match.

It was ironic that, after skipping Wimbledon for a good few years because he thought he disliked it and its traditions, he then proceeded to win his maiden Slam there (1992 not '82).

8th title for Fritz, 6th at ATP250 level and 2nd this season (after Delray Beach). Eastbourne definitely agrees with him as he has now completed a hat-trick of titles there (prev won in 2019,2022) and becomes the 1st player in the tournament's history to do so!

He played really well all week. He didn’t get broken, he didn’t lose a set, and was dominant off of his first serve, especially. He will not be an easy out for anybody at Wimbledon.
