No excite for this event apparently???

Field is as strong as can be expected the week of a competing ATP500 tournament and the week before a M1K some 3300 miles away. We have a 2019 M1K champion and at least four other titleists from this year.

Day 2 (or Night 2 more appropriately) is underway and already there have been a couple of upsets:

Ernests Gulbis won a match!

A slumping Taro Daniel (outside top 100) destroyed Tennys Sandgren, 2&0

Clay court specialist JI Londero, in his first ATP MD match on HCs since Bogota’14, upset #6 seed Christian Garin. This was Garin’s fifth loss in a row.

Grigor Dimitrov is on court and down early vs Steve Johnson.

Steady John Millman was shaky and lost to Prajnesh Gunneswaran 4-6 6-1 2-6.

Discuss or disgust or just plain ignore as you have been doing.

Grigolo FTW over The Package 7-6(4) 4-6 7-6(5). Plays #2 seed Pella in 2R. Their h2h is 1-1, both on HCs.

Gotta fix the DFs...he won tonight despite 12 doublettes.

Anybody following this tourney? What happened to Taro Daniel, he seemed to be doing well yesterday and now he's fighting off a double breadstick.

Grigolo Dimitrough is toast. More time for tequila shots at Sammy Hagar’s Cabo Wabo. Pella spanked him 4&2.

Taylor Fritz blitzed defending champion The Velvet Fog 1&6 despite serving woes (6 aces, 7 DFs, 41% 1st serves).

Dark Helmet Diego is cooking! He’s lost 8 games in 2 matches and just 3 games in the last 3 sets, bouncing Gulbis 5&0 and now Kukushkin 1&2.

Albot has been strong in R16 & QFs after a scare vs Tipsy to open his run. Daniel and The Kokk had no answers (9 games won total)

Pella routed qualifier Kwon (won 2 second serve points in the last two sets) after dropping the first set.

Guaranteed an Argentine in the final:

Pella vs Schwartzman

Fritz vs Albot

Schweddy Diego goes three sets but advances over Pella.

Taylor Fritz cruises 3&2 versus Albot. He is on a tear, playing his second consecutive final (lost to AdM in Atlanta). Fritz is 12-2 with a title at Eastbourne in the last six weeks.

Dozing through much of the match, but Fritz looked to be clicking like a dream. Its like what we imagined possible all those years ago in Memphis.:p

Congrats to Schwartzman on winning his 2nd ATP title and 1st on hardcourt. He beat Fritz in straight sets, 1st set a close breaker.

2 lost finals in a row now for Fritz. Maybe he should have chanced his luck on home soil in Washington after all?

He would have needed SFs to barely top the Cabo points/$$$. Also, have you ever been to D.C. in late July? Cabo FTW!
