Dimitrov would be considered an old man in tennis (if not for Djokovic) and I think he is going to do some damage this year. He needs a few more wins this week to get into top 10 I believe…

He could actually get up to #11 next week if he wins the title here. I don't think I see him beating Hubi though.

You wouldn't know it, based on all the people in here bashing the 1HBH in that other thread, but Dimitrov's backhand has looked awesome lately. A true weapon. Excellent power, angles and variety. I hope he can keep it up through this tournament, and then on through the Sunshine double.
Me too. I'll add its gorgeous execution to all those excellent attributes of Grigor's shbh. A thing of beauty when he's in the zone. An example is the cross court bh he hit at the net on the first point of the 2nd game -stunning. He hit some stinging fh's too. Another improvement of recent is his serve, and relative serenity. It is testament to the fact that keeping fit and working hard to improve / make changes, can pay dividends at any stage of a career.

Dimitrov solid and patient into the semis.
I have him to win the tourney
Pleased to see that Grigor is through to the SF. I like your description of " solid and patient" - I've enjoyed his more focused, serene approach. I'd like him to win it too.

All 4 QF's won in straights, so the Semi-finalists should be fresh for the contest. Hoping for well contested matches.

All four top seeds through to the semis. Good stuff.

Hurkacz v Humbert; Dimitrov v Khachanov. Karen is a tricky customer, but Grigor is the favourite here, with a 3-0 h2h.

So a Hurkacz v Dimitrov final could be on the cards. I'd favour Hubi, but didn't realise he has a 0-4 h2h vs Dimitrov.

Doesn’t look likely now. Humbert leads Hurkacz by a set and is 5-3 up in the second.

Ugo playing like he means it and the effect on Hubie has been to rush / rattle him. UH up a set 6-4 and has just broken HH in the 5th game of the 2nd set to up 3-2 and serving. The crowd is raucous with a band playing to celebrate UH's winning points. But that hasn't seemed to cheer their man up who looks determined to look unamused.
Frankly, HH should be docked a game for wearing those shorts! Loool! They're fighting in the 8th game on Hugo's serve. Riddled with error - neither seems to want it. Finally. UH holds and goes up 5-3. HH holds to 15 and UH will serve for the match - has he hold nerve and serve? .............................. UH serving superbly and attacking to paint the lines. Most entertaining! And he holds to win the SF in straights 6-4,6-4. Seems like a nice chap in the interview.

The defending champion / number one seed is out.

Humbert wins 6-4, 6-4. Great win for him!

Yes, it is an excellent result for UH. And now for the match I wanted to watch - nothing against Khachanov. but Grigor is my chap here.

None of this week's tournaments are on Amazon prime in the UK. There tennis coverage was the main reason I eventually succumbed and signed up for prime. Does anyone know whether they don't broadcast most tennis tournaments anymore?

Couldn't watch but it looks as though Grigor dodged a bit of a bullet there - he was two points from defeat! Looks like he'll need a TB though if he wants to win this one.

TB it is! From the stats it looks as though Grigor has been the slightly better player this set, but both have been rock solid on their first serves... So it will depend a bit on nerves and a bit on luck I think. Go Grigor!

Hachanov lost the 3rd set tiebreak on 3 low forehand errors - Dimitrov’s slice staying low…
Grigor through to the final

This was a well fought, entertaining SF with both chaps playing watchable tennis. I'd forgotten that Karen has improved during the last year or so too, and it was good to see his resolve and willingness to stand ground, especially in the 3rd set. But he failed to convert his chances when it mattered.
Grigor did very well to take the 1st set to a tiebreak, after having been broken early in the first set, and although he lost it, his confidence remained intact and he took the 2nd set 6-4. The 3rd set was decided on 2 points in the tiebreak - Grigor did well to capitalise upon the errors of his opponent. This outcome could have gone either way, but I'm pleased Grigor prevailed. Well done to him to get to the final.

Ugo is a player that I have not taken much interest in prior to today's SF. I like his willingness to attack and take momentum. If he serves as well as he did in the SF, he'll be a difficult opponent. Grigor will require his serve and a strategy to include variety and surprise. I'd like to see Grigor win his 2nd title this year, and keep his momentum going. It should be a cracker of a final!

Grigor becomes the first player with double digit ATP wins this year - despite the blunder @AO.
I hope he can continue winning at higher that 250 level.

Good overview of match(y)

I'm counting on Dimitrov, he is a force now!.

Humbert
Humbert also looks good, I like his playing style, but I don't like his unsmooth, coordinated and stiff movements.

However, I think that Grigor's experience will be crucial in this match...

Kinda shocked to see Humbert go through, he’s been in pretty dire form for the last two years maybe. I honestly thought when he was coming up that he would be pretty successful, I wonder if things are starting to pan out for him or if this is another flash in the pan for him.

Interesting take on Ugo - I'll look for the movement you describe. Grigor, though, has generally been moving beautifully.

Fred got back to #1 in Rotterdam, which is a very nice memory. Does anyone know who
the gracious (and attractive!) woman was, who was interviewing him for television at that time?

I would like to see Dimitrov have a good year, too. Was it 2017 when he lost to Raffers in five at AO?
That one was a heartbreaker.

Just saw a replay of SF Ugo vs Hubi. Ugo played very well. Also thanks to Hubi who had a not so good first service day at the office. If Grigor is up to it, could be a cracker of a Final
It seems Ugo has hit the gym and put on quite of few lbs of muscle weight
Really like his play, is not afraid to come foreward and has good shot selection

Ugo serving is just imperious. Aces keep coming and he's mixing it up very well. His lefty serve on adcourt is such a weapon

Humbert played well above his level. He would have beaten anyone in front of him today. Well deserved win, but I don’t expect him to show this level consistently.
