Let's go Zhang.
Dimitrov would be considered an old man in tennis (if not for Djokovic) and I think he is going to do some damage this year. He needs a few more wins this week to get into top 10 I believe…
Me too. I'll add its gorgeous execution to all those excellent attributes of Grigor's shbh. A thing of beauty when he's in the zone. An example is the cross court bh he hit at the net on the first point of the 2nd game -stunning. He hit some stinging fh's too. Another improvement of recent is his serve, and relative serenity. It is testament to the fact that keeping fit and working hard to improve / make changes, can pay dividends at any stage of a career. You wouldn't know it, based on all the people in here bashing the 1HBH in that other thread, but Dimitrov's backhand has looked awesome lately. A true weapon. Excellent power, angles and variety. I hope he can keep it up through this tournament, and then on through the Sunshine double.
Pleased to see that Grigor is through to the SF. I like your description of " solid and patient" - I've enjoyed his more focused, serene approach. I'd like him to win it too.Dimitrov solid and patient into the semis.
I have him to win the tourney
Doesn’t look likely now. Humbert leads Hurkacz by a set and is 5-3 up in the second. All four top seeds through to the semis. Good stuff.
Hurkacz v Humbert; Dimitrov v Khachanov. Karen is a tricky customer, but Grigor is the favourite here, with a 3-0 h2h.
So a Hurkacz v Dimitrov final could be on the cards. I'd favour Hubi, but didn't realise he has a 0-4 h2h vs Dimitrov.
Humbert wins 6-4, 6-4. Great win for him!
Me too although Grigor hasn’t started as he would want to. Gifted that break.Yes, it is an excellent result for UH. And now for the match I wanted to watch - nothing against Khachanov. but Grigor is my chap here.
Good overview of matchpThis was a well fought, entertaining SF with both chaps playing watchable tennis. I'd forgotten that Karen has improved during the last year or so too, and it was good to see his resolve and willingness to stand ground, especially in the 3rd set. But he failed to convert his chances when it mattered.
Grigor did very well to take the 1st set to a tiebreak, after having been broken early in the first set, and although he lost it, his confidence remained intact and he took the 2nd set 6-4. The 3rd set was decided on 2 points in the tiebreak - Grigor did well to capitalise upon the errors of his opponent. This outcome could have gone either way, but I'm pleased Grigor prevailed. Well done to him to get to the final.
Ugo is a player that I have not taken much interest in prior to today's SF. I like his willingness to attack and take momentum. If he serves as well as he did in the SF, he'll be a difficult opponent. Grigor will require his serve and a razor a strategy to include variety and surprise. I'd like to see Grigor win his 2nd title this year, and keep his momentum going. It should be a cracker of a final!
..................I'm counting on Dimitrov, he is a force now!.
Humbert
Humbert also looks good, I like his playing style, but I don't like his unsmooth, coordinated and stiff movements.
However, I think that Grigor's experience will be crucial in this match...
I would like to see Dimitrov have a good year, too. Was it 2017 when he lost to Raffers in five at AO?Grigor becomes the first player with double digit ATP wins this year - despite the blunder @AO.
I hope he can continue winning at higher that 250 level.
I think you mean Kristie Boogert. She has played quite some tennis herself and she is a very good commentator nowadays https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kristie_BoogertFred got back to #1 in Rotterdam, which is a very nice memory. Does anyone know who
the gracious (and attractive!) woman was, who was interviewing him for television at that time?
Yes, I think that's her; thanks very much!I think you mean Kristie Boogert. She has played quite some tennis herself and she is a very good commentator nowadays https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kristie_Boogert
