Grigor was a bit flat, and late in the first was misfiring his forehand, but Humbert was shockingly steady.

He seems to have a different girlfriend from last year, and his mom is back in his box, too…

Ugo looked determined from the outset, serving superbly, playing incisively. Superb timing. The first set was even until Grigor was serving serving to make it 5-5, but could not convert his chances (he had plenty) constantly under pressure. He succumbed to the break, Ugo taking the 1st set 6-4. Grigor looked a tad slower out there today, and I suspect the efforts made in the SF took their toll. Grigor put pressure on the Ugo serve in the opening game of the 2nd set, but the letter stood his ground to hold. He has an attacking game and will take his chances with conviction - I like his game. He broke Grigor in the second game and basically continued on course without threat on serve.

I wanted Grigor to win the title here, and he played some beautiful tennis at times, but he was outplayed when it mattered. Well done to Ugo for winning his 5th ATP title.
Congrats too to Machac / Zhang for winning the doubles.

5th title for Humbert, 4th at ATP250 level and 2nd on home soil (after 2023 Metz). He is now 5-0 in ATP finals played!
