TBlev drops the opening set in Rublevlette fashion but comes back to pound ARV, 6-7(5) 6-3 6-1.

Up next is Sam I Am The Destroyer.

Tom who on earth is The Package lol?

Trying to put the dimmer on my simmer but the anticipation is building for a possible Benoir-BlockBusta QF. Nothing can top the twilight zone match of Medvedev-Benoir in Cincinnati brought to us by Doublemint Gum: same awkward FH, same gangly movement, same two hander, same uniform, same extremely noir temperamental touches, both were dour until they were not.

I wish Benoir every success but his most expansive contributions to the sport are when he's losing. His expressions of self-doubt and his self-hating forehand are simply poetic.

You left out the night and late afternoon matches, LOL. Shapo v. Kecmanovic (should be a cracker)

Read closer...all eight matches are listed in the order they are being played. I listed the start time of the first matches on each court, not each match start time.

Rain on a busy day is not good. Only two matches were completed (Johnson beat Ruud and Millman knocked out Haase. Paire is two games away from advancing over Humbert. Sonego is up a break very early when he and PCB resume. Shapo and Kecman were ready to begin before the rain.

Denis takes the match against Miomir Kec in straights. 62 63 He looked dominant (except when he went about his not-unexpected-walkabout for a few games in the 2nd set).

Kecmanovic couldn't touch him. I hope Shapo can bring this focus to the US Open.

Yes, I would love to see him at least make the finals here. If he continues to play this way, I think he has a chance. Depends on who he plays next. Either Querry or Rublev could be tough. Rublev has that confidence from his run last week. Still, I think Denis could take either of them. I honestly thought Kecmanovic was going to be more of a challenge. Either he didn't play well, or Denis just didn't let him.

So Gauff and Barty are playing their Exho right now on center, but very hard to find a score. So, so irritated with Sling TV in US since online interface seems to have lost the sports extra package with Tennis Channel. Already to plunk down even $10 just to catch this match, but Sling's interface won't allow it.

Anyone have a feed or a score for this match? Its supposed to be broadcast on tennis channel.

Rubles are TB strong, 7-6(4) 7-6(10).

Came from a break down at 4-3 to force the TB and then fought off several SPs FTW.

Shapo vs Angrey Andrey QF.

QFs beginning at 3pm:

Paire vs PCB

Millman vs Johnson

Rublev vs Shapovalov

Tiafoe vs Hurkacz

Bottom half all youth with Hurkacz the oldest at 22.

Thank you. Heard it was a friendly and fun match. I've got this feeling the stadium was only half full. Somebody pulled out the check book for that match? Its quite hot the last few days so may be a hard sell.

That stinks, was going to watch tonight

Hardcourt tournaments have been very bad so far

All matches are cancelled for the evening and play will resume at noon tomorrow with QFs and SFs scheduled for the same day.

This is a bad break for the winners, who will be tapped from that grind in very hot conditions just days before 1R USO. Six of the eight are in the bottom half so they may catch a break with Tuesday starts. Hurkacz and Busta are top half.

Could be some strategic tanking tomorrow.

That's ridiculous. Tanking for what; the possibility you might win a first round at the USO? I find the entire concept to be strange. The past is gone. The future is not yet created. All we have is the here and now. This isn't some philosophical exploration. This is the physical reality of our lives. For example, let's say you have a wonderful job that you enjoy very much. At some point, you'd like to move on, but not yet. Then, someone offers you an interview for a great job. Would you quit your job for the possibility of a great interview? Highly doubtful. No athlete, no matter how talented can predict how they'll perform in an upcoming tournament. A thousand things could happen between now and then - the universe presents us with many possibilities, but if we choose to refuse to live in the present just for the hope of what might be in the future, then we rob ourselves of life in its entirety. If a player wishes to "tank" a tournament for the hope of performing better in an upcoming tournament, then they have lost before they have begun.

Another rain delay. Supposed to be clear by 7pm, but the 10+ crew is already clearing the court and the rain seems to have stopped. Someone these tournaments are always held in places where it rains a lot during the time of the tournament.

Impressive, took them about barely 20 minutes to dry up a fully drenched court with standing waters to pretty much fully dried/playable court. Was watching Kubot/Melo v Monroe/Sanders match where Monroe/Sanders took the 1st set 7-6 and they're now down 1-4 in 2nd.

Hurkacz is serving 130+ mph serves and playing quite well against Shapovalov. Up 5-2 in 1st set. Looking impressive so far.

C'mon Dennis, give us some slices. Would've broken if he'd play a tiny bit more conservative on those 4 BPs, especially when returning.

1-6 6-0 6-0 Paire over Johnson...unless he was injured, Steve was thinking about 1R USO vs Kyrgiosity.

Yeah, I'd normally agree tanking is dumb, but this (potential) 3 matches in 2 days business is pretty rough right before a big tournament.

Lol, never want to hear that these scorelines could only happen on the WTA tour. Here it is in an ATP SF.

What the heck happened to Stevie Johnson? Pulls a breadstick and then lets himself get double bagelled???o_O:(

Truly a match worthy of the WTA!!
He dropped a couple of deuces in those last two sets...2 points won on second serves in #2 and 2 points won on first serves to close. Paire taught him well in the first set, winning again just two points on second serves.

Paire is not that good a returner so I think the ATP will be reviewing tape of this debacle.

hurkacz should win easily right?
Not sure.

By tennis skills, I don't think it should be easy either way.

However, it was a very tough day of tennis the previous day for both of them, so fitness is going to be a factor, it might be easy one way or the other if someone's burnt out.

Paire's a headcase so he can always have a day where he just doesn't show up.

I’m liking Hurkacz due to the unPairealleled flakiness of Benoit de Balles. Hurkacz latching on to Craig Boynton as his coach has been a masterful decision. They joined forces at IW and had immediate success (QFist without a M1K match win prior). He plays within himself on a regular basis.

Looks like Hurkacz will win this in straights no problem today. Paire bad, Hurkacz good.

Who are the crowd all screaming at during the changeovers? Both Paire and Hurkacz look puzzled.

What a missed opportunity for Hurkacz. Up a set and a break and then falls apart. Now he has to face the uncertainty of a 1 set shootout. It could and should have been all so different.

Hurkacz wins, becoming the second Polish person to win a US tennis tournament today! Linette just won the NYJTL Bronx Open tournament.
