Classic scenes. Also disrespectful to his opponent to make the end of the match about him.

I think the inevitable downward spiral for little Andrey has started.
Exactly, once match is over to the net for handshake. To smash his racket on the ground 7 or 8 times immediately after he lost is such poor sportsmanship.

I have to strongly disagree. Obviously he can demolish any of the lower-ranked players even if he had a broken ankle. But he is probably not going deep at RG with an average first serve speed of 160 km/100 MPH. It's not just the service speed, his entire service motion was different and he wasn't landing on his feet the way he normally does. Even someone like Humbert or Mannarino would punish such weak serving. Of course, Nadal has such an aura on clay he might be able to serve WTA level and opponents will choke against him anyway.

Also problematic is Rafa's inability to be stretched wide and retrieve balls he used to get to easily. Age has no mercy. I actually want to see him win RG and today was just his first step. Hopefully he will show more against Demon.
Disagree with your comments about the serve...on clay. Absolutely agree with your last paragraph about being stretched out wide which will be brutally exposed against Siiner Alcaraz Zverev Tsitsipas and even Ruud.
As for RG i was thinking Alcaraz but his own injury i think swings things to Sinner.

it's the secret sauce
so its not definite that rafa will retire after Frenchopen, right ?? Tennis channel was saying,, its a consideration but rafa hasn't made the final decision,,, if he hasn't then French boys can't throw him the retirement party at the french open this year then ??

These lower ranked players are absolutely snoozefest

Honestly only two guys who are watchable in Barcelona might be Nadal and Tsitsipas.

If Nadal doesn’t win be nice to see tsitsi win this after that epic 2021 loss such an incredible final plus 0-10 record in ATP 500 finals finally break that duck as well as being the place of his maidan final of his career

Do you think we may see another Ruud-Tsitsipas final? Not sure whether I see Stefanos go all out in the tournament though, after his triumph in Monte Carlo. Still, I am not sure who will stop him. De Minaur? He won their last match, but that was on hard. He has never passed R3 at a clay Masters or R2 at RG. He did make the QF in Barcelona ... where he was stopped by Tsitsipas. I guess he is an improved player and stranger things have happened, but it feels as though Tsitsipas would need to have an off day to lose before the final. (Of course, he has had quite a few of these recently, let's see whether MC is a change ...)

Ruud has an even easier draw. Of course, he is also prone to bad results, but clay is a good surface for him. So I'd reckon they are the favourites to make the final, although it's far from a sure thing.

You know, Stef has to go all in here. Madrid is not his best surface. He did make a final in 2019 but he would definitely feel more pressure vs better opposition.

Stef also has underperformed since AO23. He has no time to waste. A win in Barcelona will put him at WR 6. And great for his chances to be seeded in top 8 at RG.

He is not defending much in Madrid and Rome so he can even go beyond no. 6. Stef is no Djokovic or Nadal who will reserve their best tennis at slams. He has not reached even close to their accolades yet. Get these 500 pts and be safe for RG. That's the best thing that can happen to him. And if he faced Ruud again he will win.

Hm, good point. I'm not sure he can go to live ranking 6 if Ruud makes the final, but this only reinforces the point: There are 500 points at stake here, and things are pretty tight at the moment between #7 and #11, so the chance to put some daylight between himself and those below him ahead of RG would definitely be beneficial.

Something is truly wrong with the system when the 11 times champion is unseeded. They have to think of way. Anyone who has won a tournament at least 5 times and has been sidelined because of injury should always be seeded at that tournament.
Why? Like if Federer comes back from retirement he should be seeded at Wimbledon? What about Borg at FO? They will lose badly
