You think Alcaraz was the same player back in Hamburg of last year, that he became over the past year? Carlos has skyrocketed to the top since then, it has nothing to do with mental, and everything to do with Carlos simply being a clear step above. You can say that the mental aspect only compounds it, but LM is not playing on the same level, not even close.
LoL. Tiny is no better than he was at that time. He was ranked 4 and then 6 weeks later he was number 1. So, 6 weeks changed everything. No.
Muzz has dropped significantly and tiny is the same.

Interesting that Zvev after marathon night match just concluded a quite tough double match. He doesn't feel worried of being out of steam probably.

if you're not watching Alcaraz play, you're missing out on some of the most fun tennis you'll ever see.
Yep.
Now that the USO swing is over, I can now catch his matches without screwing my sleep up.

Alcaraz in the zone now. When he plays this well it's the best show on earth to me. Good stuff.
I'll second that, Ferobango. And third it too! Having had my tennis time curtailed of late due to real life, watching Carlos play again has been such fun, and a much needed blast of inspiration . I hope he continues to play well - so far so good in this campaign.
Musetti is the only one-hander to have beaten him thus far for a reason after all.
I hadn't noted this myself, but an interesting observation. A shbh is a thing of beauty, and Lorenzo hits it with panache when playing well. Even here, he returned some powerful shots from Carlos with his gorgeous shbh - food for the tennis soul.

Enjoy your comments, and look forward to reading more.

Dude is all over that court like a bad rash, LM shaking his head.
This made me Lol. CA's court coverage is astounding when he is in the zone.

I doubt it, broken already. He simply can do nothing to tackle that firepower from Alcaraz. The slice isn't working, and anything he is dropping slightly short is getting the Del Potro forehand treatment.

Interesting analogy - I think you've made it before. What a compliment to the kid - Del Potro's formidable forehand was simply superb.

Hmmm. Holger looking less than in the mood to do damage, but much better effort in this set. Beautiful shbh from Grigor there. A thing of beauty. If HR buckles down, this ought to go to a decider and if it does, I feel HR will win it.

I haven't watched Jannik's match, but he seemed in a hurry to get the job done with a loss of only 2 games. I see that Ruud is through, needing 3 sets and will play Carlos next. The quarterfinals matches all look interesting for various reasons.

Well, no Rune-Sinner rematch as Holger goes down in flames to the Bulgarian. Very disappointing level continues.
It is disappointing, Beatlesfan, given the talent of the boy. Grigor has found a new impetus and is playing well again, but in my view he is no match for an in-form Holger. That disappointment could be the basis for the frustration, as Hitman pointed out.

He's too much of a perfectionist, it is often detrimental to him during matches. He's knows what he is capable of, and when he doesn't do it, he doesn't deal with it the way right way often.
I suspect this is likely to improve, as he navigates his path ahead. I believe this to be the case with the talented youngsters ( seems an obvious point) - they are on such a huge learning curve. It will be interesting to see how they develop themselves / their games.

Why is the Asia swing so bonked in terms of scheduling this year? Start on a Thursday end on the next Wednesday? Was it because of LAver Cup?

Surprisingly Medvedev has a 0-2 h2h against Humbert.
Thanks for this stat, Rattie, further to which I looked it up- in straight sets in Hamburg 2020, and in 3 sets at the ATP cup 2022. Adds interest to the mix. Could it be a hat-trick?? Daniil has had a good year so could resist a third defeat.

The QF's will hopefully include entertaining matches: Humbert / Medvedev; Zverev / Jarry; Alcaraz / Ruud ; Dimitrov / Sinner.

Can’t say I’ve seen those old matches so maybe it’s a match up issue for Med. A bit too early for me to be up to watch it but somehow I can’t see Daniil losing this one. Talking of h2h, hopefully Carlos will continue his 3-0 h2h against Casper.

If you actually think Djokovic puts the same effort in a masters semi versus a slam final, then we really have nothing more to discuss.
Well said from your couch. You have no clue. There’s no difference to a player Ie cincy Novak went 110% there. Why, if it didn’t matter?

That's ridiculous. Rats has obviously progressed, and Musetti has not "dropped significantly". One thing worth mentioning is that Musetti robbed Rats of a very big point in that Hamburg match, failing to confess a very obvious double bounce. That, together with a somewhat "humiliating" loss, seems to have given Muscle Boy a huge chip on his shoulder when he faces the conceited Tuscan. Result: 63 62 62 62 62 in the last five sets they've played, with Musetti having to work super hard to avoid bakery goods...
