We can finally put this stupid meme to bed.

More thoughts later. Congrats Medfam. First 500 title in 3 years. Out of respect for the situation I won’t hoot and holler.

So Medvedev finally breaks his proud record of never winning a title twice by securing a 2nd one in Dubai (prev won in 2023). It is his 2nd title of the season (also won Brisbane), 5th at 500 level and 23rd overall.

Turned over to watch the match at the appointed UK time (3pm) only to find it was already over. Didn't know that Griekspoor had scratched. What was the problem?

When was the last time a final was won on a walkover??

He said the scan this morning revealed a hamstring tear.

Well, I guess there isn’t really much new for me to add but:

It was a less stressful way to win the title for sure, but also less satisfying. That’s just how it goes though. This was probably Daniil’s last real chance to win anything for a good while, so I’m glad he did it, and I’m more glad that for the first time in 3 years he has a 500. I’m at a place now where instead of getting worked up wanting more, I’m trying to be thankful and appreciative for whatever we get, especially because you never know when it’s going to be the last time. It’s funny, it felt like he was a better player for a year and a half after his last title, yet he’s now won I believe more titles since the team switch than anyone else? (Someone fact check me on that).

If not for the SF I’d have definitely put this among his weakest wins, but there was nothing weak about that Felix match. To beat an opponent who was 11-1 this month and rolling in that way was huge. Otherwise Daniil just did what he needed to this week.

I guess it’s fitting that this was the place where the repeat finally happened, because Daniil has always felt so at home here, and his game just suits this particular court so well, to where he can play well under any circumstances. Funnily though, he said he was exploding in practice because he “couldn’t make a single ball” and that he was sure the week would be a disaster. Go figure.

Congrats to all the believers here. I wish I could have enjoyed this more with a better mental state, but it is what it is. I’m happier for y’all. And for those of you stuck in the ME region, stay safe, and I’m praying for you.

(PS what happened to Srihari, the reporter? I can’t find him on Twitter anymore)

God bless, Jake

2017 Delray Beach, Sock over Raonic

You know the injury was known to Griekspoor and he wouldn't have come out for a third set. Just like Nadal playing Fritz at Wimbledon in 2022. Nadal should have quit and so should have Griekspoor. Just total bs.

I mean if they are able to still win, I can’t really blame them. It’s on the opponent to not let it get to them. But yes, it’s still a crap situation that doesn’t benefit anyone.

I don't agree with your logic given Griekspoor's injury. Me think had he withdrawn from Dubai semis and played Indian Wells, he'd have lost in first or second round there. Then, he'd be in the same if not worse situation rankingwise/financially/healthily.
