I just got home and only saw MP. Why Zverev cranky? That was a cold handshake and he had some choise words for the umpire as well
Fils underarm served him down championship point (he missed) and Zverev just seemed to be in a mood from then on. Fils says post-match that he was cramping, that's why he did it. As if he needs an excuse.

Zverev just upset with himself as he was the better player who messed up every opportunity he got. 22 BP point chances and didn’t allow a BP in the final set, but choked it away.

That’s no good reason to be petty and sulky and keep having pokes at Fils. He needs to own his own weaknesses. But then he generally doesn’t do that does he?

Arthur breaks into the top 20 with this win btw. Good for him.

Zverev wins 1 out of 22 BPs
the letsgoyelling zviraffe is reaching a stratospheric federesque level in terms of BP conversion rate... impressive

Of course, but the poster asked why Chainz was acting this way

Good job by the 20 year old. Boost for his confidence for the Olympics. This one was best quality of the 3 ATP European finals today.

It was not match point. Just break point at 5-5 (or 4-4).

He didn’t like the underarm serve, even though Fils lost the point having served it. He moaned - a game or so later  it was disrespectful. He had an episode where he didn’t feel well in the opening set so was clearly out of sorts. He was in front of his home crowd so expected to win and couldn’t handle not doing so easily.

He sucked all the joy out of Arthur’s win, who didn’t even feel like celebrating his win - look at his reaction (Fils)

Miserable, grumpy git.
So many BP opportunities and he couldn’t take them so I got the impression he felt increasingly frustrated and he took it out on young Arthur.

This is Chainz. Also, Chainz mostly gave the match to Fils rather than Fils winning it, so Chainz is salty about it. It would be different had Chainz been outplayed.

If you mean he wasn’t playing well enough so that ‘gives’ the match to Fils, then that’s on him. Fils was resilient in the face of a top 5 player and wouldn’t give in. He also dealt with a crowd who were largely against him and a petulant brat.
You would never see any of the big 3 behaving that way.
The kid just got the biggest win and title of his career and he couldn’t even raise a smile when he got it because of Zverev. Sorry, but Zverev can fecck off.

Fils hit 41 winners to 17 UEs, probably when it matters. Zverev’s numbers paled in comparison.

2nd ATP title for Fils and 1st at ATP500 level. He becomes the 4th French player to win the title after Noah (1983), Leconte (1986) and Simon (2011).

Bit out of order from Zverev as Fils did nothing wrong. Complaining to the umpire and offering a cold handshake at the net put a bit of a damper on Fils' celebration. Can understand Zverev's disappointment and frustration but that was naughty.

Saw both Fils and Zed live at Halle and Fils was impressive comparatively speaking. Just needed to beef up his serve a bit as not many freebies on it.

That was one crazy final, with a terrific level. Even if it was just a 500, that final was more entertaining than every Masters1000 finals this year. The best BO3 final since Cincinnati. Congrats to Fils. I like this guy, I hope it wasn't a fluke.

Fils complained to the umpire for 5 minutes in an agitated way, because zverev took a sip from his glucose water bottle between points during a game. Zverev had a diabetic episode and was given glucose by the doctor in the previous game. I think this is what started the feud. I mean the guy was fainting you could give him some slack and the umpire didn’t mind.

Did you see the ceremony?
Z spoke mostly in German.
A very salty well done to Arthur and team!

Some confusion about what to do with the 2 bottles of fizz presented at the end.
Z opened his and sprayed Fils chasing and soaking him etc.

Tennis players don't do F1 style ceremony well:)

Ok, fair enough. Fils' celebration after winning was very unsure and muted though.

Oh...my... god. I just watched an extended highlights replay of the Fils / Chainz match. Fils looked like he was playing all gas, no brakes straight murdering the ball. I mean his level looked amazing. For those that saw the full match, was he as good as the highlights made him look???
