Alcaraz was limping? He shouldn't have played Laver Cup. Laver Cup is poisoning and overdosing top players with Champagne. It's a cunning tactic employed by Federer to keep his number 3 goat position so that Alcaraz and other top players don't pass his records.

Awesome long rally. Hamad controlling the point with his forehand cross courts and then finished it with fh dtl.

Hamad saying something like "when hit the frame, say sorry" "I'm saying sorry enough", lol he couldn't stop talking... he got so bitter after losing the first set in tie break.

These next gen players lol they are so weak. Demanding apologies from their opponent. Sabalenka, Ostapenko, and now Hamad.

LOL Rune then yelled C'MAAAAAAWN LET'S GO when he won the first point of the 2nd set.

This is comedy. Entertainment.

He injured his ankle and had to have it taped. Was still feeling it, at least when play was suspended because of rain at 5-4 up in the first set. Nothing to do with LC

Rune now leads 5:0 in the second set  the bakery is coming!

Ferrero overplaying Alcaraz. Smh. Of course he’s hurt

Congrats on the YE #1, Sinner.
Thank God we'll never have to hear the words "Sinner year-end-#1" ever again (y)
Sinner isn't good enough to beat Alcaraz on hardcourts anymore... and no little ankle pain will change that.

LOL poor Daniel can't do anything right, smashed his racquet on the floor. Vukic overpowering and outplaying Altmaier.

Berrettini stalling by asking ball boy to wipe the sweat off the court

LOL the stalling tactic didn't help. Ruud with FH dtl passing shot winner.

Not worth risking it for a 500
I agree, Alcaraz won't even lose the #1 ranking if he withdraws from Tokyo and if Sinner wins Beijing, so nothing to lose by withdrawing, and being fresh for Shanghai.
But i've no insight into the extent of this injury and whether its nothing or something, as a lot of players carry niggling ankle pain and strap their ankles accordingly, as Alcaraz has done already in the past and remained unaffected.

are appearance fees affected by withdrawals?

Unless he feels 100% I doubt he will play.

This whole this tournament means nothing narrative is complete bunk. Carlos will do everything in his power to play.

I would be very surprised if he doesn't play.
But its very hard for Sinner to win the year-end-#1, unless Alcaraz gets so injured that he can't participate in Shanghai and ATP Finals.
So to finish year-end-#1, Alcaraz doesn't need Tokyo at all.
He may not withdraw though, because he's had ankle problems before and not withdrawn, and they don't even seem to slow him down...

It seems to depend on the tournament director, so different for each event.

Probably not in this case.
  • If a player withdraws before the event begins, most contracts stipulate that the appearance fee is reduced or forfeited (sometimes with medical exceptions).
  • If a player shows up and plays a match but retires due to injury, the appearance fee is usually still honored, since they fulfilled the obligation of competing.
  • Some contracts have minimum participation clauses (e.g., the player must play at least one full match, or appear in promotional events). If they withdraw during the first match, it could trigger a partial reduction.
  • Tournaments also sometimes take out insurance against star players withdrawing, so the financial risk is shared.
In practice:
  • If a top player turns up, plays, and then retires early due to injury, they usually keep the appearance fee.
  • If they withdraw before stepping on court, they often lose all or part of it.

Carlos is always striving to be, and or stay #1, but while he is competing in a tournament he isn't thinking about it. He is doing everything in his power to win the next match. If there is no serious injury, & if he is medically cleared by doctors, he will play. The end.

Do you know if Alcaraz has decided that he will play? Is it certain that he will play or is he considering his decision?

Nobody has a clue what Carlos is thinking during a tournament. All you know is what Carlos tells the media...
Yes everybody knows Carlos is trying to play, otherwise he'd have withdrawn already. Yes Carlos will withdraw if he's not cleared to play.

You think you know me or what I know? Keep thinking that little one.

Too funny!
