Lol now I hear a cheer for Brandon!

Let's Go Nakashima Let's Go.

Why don't they just say
Let's Go Brandon Let's Go ?

Carlos is playing very well on these courts. Good fast-court tennis, serving well (didn't face a single BP), looking to be aggressive and finish the points when he can.

Of course, Nakashima is not Sinner, nor even Ruud or Fritz. But with this kind of play and this level, I don't see why he should not do very well on the indoor courts this autumn.

Do you think Alcaraz will trash Ruud like Sinner did against him or does Ruud have a chance to make it at least somewhat competitive? Ruud is playing better than in Rome.

Top level tennis from Carlos to take the first set 6-2. 18 winners and the forehand is firing! He has taken a bit of pace off his serve still, maybe to protect the ankle.
Yah man, dude in the zone today, enjoyed watching him. Top drawer performance. The TennisTV.com comms felt the closing game was outstanding and perhaps one of the best they had ever seen, with 39 winniers from Carlitos and only one ace. I remain concerned about the ankle from the perspective of general wellbeing / confidence, but am relieved that there appears to be no signifant impact of the injury.

Nakashima played very well at times too, good to see his abilities when he could deliver them. Really liked his fighting spirit towards the latter stages and holding serve to make Carlitos serve it out.

Agree that assessment. Ruud is also playing well, and I anticipate a well contesed match.

Disappointed that Rune is out relatively tamely, well done to Brooksby to get through in straights. Enjoyed Korda's efforts ( @Vincent-C ), but alas, the all too familiar outcome. Fritz outplaying SK when required to clinch it.

3 of the top 4 seeds through to the sf's. Hope we have cracking contests in both matches.

Yeah, some phenomenal tennis from him today. Nakashima played well, reflected in the scoreline - a lesser showing could have resulted in bakery products. His confidence seemed to be back in a way it wasn’t in the previous rounds. Good sign where the ankle is concerned. The highlight reel will be worth a watch (y)

Carlitos's subtle change on that back hand is allowing him to take the ball a lot earlier and an inside the court making that shorter angle backhand an incredibly deadly shot. Also, just like at the U.S. Open, the forehand on the run either the defensive loopy one that gets them back into the points or the lasers that he takes right on the rise on the run or just incredible. Nakashima has been playing pretty well and he was serving really well today (72% with a good serve on that fast surf ) but he just couldn't do anything against Carlos.

Can Ruud at least avoid a humiliation like against Sinner? He has played well at the Tokyo Open but he usually fares poorly against all the time greats.

he's actually been playing well here on this fast court he should be able to get some solid leads in his surface games, but I think it just depends on what type of mood Carlitos is in and how his ankle is because if he is completely dialed in and wants to win this tournament it will come out very aggressively and there's really nothing that Casper can do

What do mean by solid leads in his surface games? I am not a native english speaker. But Rinderknech was able to take Alcaraz to a tie-break and he is not as good as Ruud though Alcaraz raises his level against higher-ranked opponents.

Yah man, agree that analysis. The variety at his disposal has been highlighted, seems even more effective of recent. Lethal forehand and devastating backhand. Soft skills and finesse in court awareness / placement too. Superb timing. There is a lot to enjoy in his game at present. You mention some of the improved skill set - I note an awakening / awareness in him of his innate prowess. The comms on TennisTv were awe struck, saying it was a privilege to witness the dude's game today, pointing to his 'God given' talent that cannot be taught. There is no certainty, but if he stays fit, I believe he will excel further. The dude is dynamite when on. Let's see how he does.

The superb final game:

The superb final game:

Commentators are guilty of massive boosterism these days, though; I don't know of one who
isn't, except maybe Arias. It's gotten to absurd levels the last ten years.

Heh, heh, so if it is rife does that mean 'boosterism', or that there is a consensus? From my perspective, dude was simply superb today. The comms I heard were most effusive, for that reason. There are players that rightly elicit such praise, and currently, Carlitos & Jannik do so. From memory, praise has often been lavished upon talented players, it is not a new phenomenon.
That said, I acknowledge your observation, and the unswerving reality is that praise or no praise, a player has to earn that recognition. I have no doubt that Carlitos has earned it. Yannik too.

I agree that Alky is playing excellent tennis these days, and is clearly the top player in the world at present.
When the commentators speak of "unprecedented level, best evuh" and such, I part ways with them- at least
for now.

We'll see how it goes.

Have fun looking jealous and butthurt for the next 15 years by hating on the best player in the world.

Good luck with all that kiddo.

Nodding away here. I part company with those touting " the greatest of all time" narrative. But I can undertand the 'best to date' concept. Exciting stuff and yes, we'll see how it goes. Good to exchange some thoughts with you.
