Chamamos ele Sinnerzinho mano. Sinnerzinho.
You have to admit the forehand is a Sinner esque liquid whip shot. Aesthetically they couldn’t be more similar.

However now we see the downside of showboating and relying so heavily on the crowd for energy. When tides start to turn against you, and the crowd gets nervous and quiet, things start to snowball. Fonseca needs to collect himself and find that inner equilibrium now.

Well there's the junior in him: gifts away a set in which he appeared to be two classes ahead of his opponent. Tons of silly misses, no patience, going for too much, abusing the drop shot...

Also, Navone has a weird physique. He's obviously fit, but his torso is odd, somewhat pear-shaped.

Crikey. A reminder that momentum shifts can undermine confidence / zap energy. Joao more error prone and Navone did well to take advantage, taking the 2nd set 6-3. MN somehow looks older than his 22 years. JF broken in the opening game of the decider. Serving at 0-2.

Great effort. Navone really earned it. Saw a whole lotta good from the kid. Great to see another big hitter that doesnt mess around. A player that hurries to the service line. Hopefully that stalling bullcrap dies with the old guard.

Absolutely tragic performance from Cerundolo after getting to set point at 5-4 40-15 on Baez's serve. Six games lost in a row and about a million unforced errors even while going for safe-looking shots.

Just FYI in case anyone cares, Fonseca has been awarded a main draw WC in Santiago. The other two invites have gone to Italy's Darderi and (bizarrely) Passaro.

Not sure what's going on there, but the Jarry-Fillol family (which runs Chilean tennis and this event) seems to be sending a message to their neighbors across the Andes...

Hahaha, please stop. He's done. Pulled out of AO, Doha, can barely make explosive movements required to push Novak/Carlos/Jannik.
Nadal is THE favorite to win 2024 Roland Garros.
Nadal played better at Brisbane 2024, winning 2 matches in straight sets with sublime serving and backhand and had match points at multiple stages of the 2nd Set vs. Thompson.
Nadal played better at Brisbane 2024 than Djokovic played at the Untied Cup, and Nadal played better at Brisbane 2024 than at 2022 Madrid and Rome.
We all saw 2022 Nadal miss 6 weeks with a fractured rib, lose early at Madrid and Rome, and then beat FOUR top 10 players at Roland Garros, something Djokovic can only DREAM of doing.
Nadal will again hammer Djokovic's head into the Roland Garros clay, reducing the margin to 23 vs. 24 and with more to come, as Nadal has made the Wimbledon SFs in his last 3 appearances.

Who should get the wildcard? Passaro is an odd choice but Fonseca and Darderi are no brainers for their results this SA CC swing. The draw has a lot of Argentinians in based solely on ranking.

The top half of the draw has all the Chileans. 1 is guaranteed to make the QF with Tabilo facing the winner of Garín and Barrios Vera. I just had a look on their Wikipedia page and all 4 Chileans are a similar age so must have come through the juniors playing together. It doesn't appear as though Chile has any upcoming prospects if none of the WCs went to a Chilean.

I do wonder why Ruud didn't play the SA CC swing given it's his best surface. I appreciate you have to prepare on HC for IW and Miami but he could have played Buenos Aires and Rio before switching back to HC at Acapulco. Of course he may have been swung by appearance fees, so what do I know?

Title #5 for Baez,1st at ATP500 level and 1st this season (last title was at 2023 Winston-Salem). He becomes the 2nd Argentinian player to win the title (after Schwartzman in 2018).

Fairly poor opposition for a 500 even if it was on clay. Diaz Acosta won a title a few weeks ago but isn't really seasoned enough for us to know if that is a big win on clay for Baez. Cerundolo seems totally out of form right now too. I appreciate Alcaraz was in the draw, whether that's an appearance fee thing or he likes SA I'm not totally sure. The tournament could do with a few more top 20 players for a bit of rigidity to the draw in my opinion. I'm surprised Jarry hasn't done more damage at these SA clay events so far, and Garin is seemingly still on the comeback trail if I'm correct - he seemed promising over the past 4-5 years at least.
