Poor DemiMug... brings his best level ever, and still not enough to steal a set from the Sinner. He may wanna take a page from Botic's book and avoid events where Jannik is present. Or perhaps... avoid going on court dressed like one of the Carota Boys?

H2H now 7-0 with a single set dropped, back when the young Carrot was only 18.

Speaking of Jannik, he was far from his best all week long, but he certainly did not take the event lightly, always hanging in there and finding solutions to the various difficulties he faced along the way. Still undefeated in 2024, will be number 3 tomorrow. Also becomes the first player in nearly half a century to follow up his maiden slam with a tournament win (Hewitt 2001).

Most impressive (for a choker, mental midget, mug etc... ;))

They're called flying rats for a reason. ;)

Congratulations to Jannik for winning the title despite injury niggles, and not playing at his best. Also, for making the record of first player in a long time to back up his GS win by winning the next tournament played. He will no doubt make / break further records, and continue to excel, all else being equal. Well done to him too for reaching world number 3 ranking, which I believe he will soon supersede at this rate.
Alex has been playing very well of recent, yet could not fend off a straight sets loss. Good job though, to make it to the final, and for reaching the number 9 ranking during this tournament.

This match keeps giving and giving, both players skiing across the court
Beautifully descriptive comment.

Pleased to see Mektic / Koolhof winning the title.

In winning 2024 Rotterdam, Sinner wins his 12th ATP singles title, 2nd of the season and 4th at ATP500 level. He has now won his last 3 consecutive ATP500 finals and beats De Minaur for the 2nd time in a title match (prev. in 2023 Toronto) opening up a 7-0 H2H against the Aussie player. He also becomes:

1. The highest ranked male Italian player ever at world #3 (from Monday).
2. Only the 2nd Italian player ever to win the Rotterdam title (after Camporese in 1991).
3. The most titled player in the top #10 so far this season.

Well that was quite a battle. Not surprised to see six break of serves, we know the qualities of Jannik and De Minaur is among the very best returners on hardcourt and this one is slow one.

All in all this run showcases why it is so difficult to win sets against the newest slam winner. He is among the best at holding serve and at breaking it, and that is unlikely to change.

What was the best ranking that Nicola Pietrangeli achieved in his career?

What was Sinner's first serve percentage in this final?

According to his Wiki entry, he was ranked #3 by some tennis commentators but, of course, there were no official (ie. universally accepted) rankings back in his day. Panatta was ranked #4 (official rankings) and Camporese, the last Italian to win Rotterdam, was ranked #18.

Do you think Sinner will Surpass Murray next year?

I was impressed by Sinner's solid footwork in a week when he wasn't close to his best level.
AdM tested him that way in the final.. test passed.
Yes, I think AdM is just not quite there. He's improved. There's some room for more. We'll see if he can challenge other top players. I don't think Sinner will lose to him. It's going to be like one of those Fed-Roddick H2Hs.

With a 65% first serve rate, Sinner should be almost unbeatable on fast surfaces.
I wonder if his tossing of the ball when performing his first serve is not being technically correct, what do you think?

Either way he’s going to win a title during the sunshine double somehow, if not both

This'll be an interesting time for Sinner. Hopefully, he and his team are wise about scheduling. No hurry to accomplish everything. I don't want to see him go on a tear in minor events or even masters level events to burn out at RG, Wimbledon, and/or the US Open. Trickiest thing in tennis for the top guys, I think.

Nice performance by Sinner. He didn't seem completely comfortable and/or dialed in for most of the event, and even mentioned something at one point about adjusting to different conditions from event to event, but he still pulled it off, and in pretty dominant fashion.

Yes, he has thoroughly dominated ADM so far in their careers, but I think that made this final even more tricky for Sinner. You know that the other guy is going to be trying new things to finally break through, you know that they might be "due" to finally win one, and most importantly Sinner would know that ADM's motivation is through the roof to grab a title, while for Sinner this isn't exactly the most meaningful title after just winning his first slam.

So with a lot of factors to consider, Sinner still won in dominant fashion, and that says a lot. Last year he was really good during the Sunshine Double, so it will be really interesting to see how he does there. On a personal note, I hope he plays Fritz at some point during Indian Wells, because Fritz is pretty annoying to me and IW is his hometown event... plus on Point Break they seemed to think he would be the favorite against Sinner in 2023, and we all know...

Speaking of Jannik, he was far from his best all week long, but he certainly did not take the event lightly, always hanging in there and finding solutions to the various difficulties he faced along the way.
Yep, I totally agree that he looked far from his top form, and yet he was still the class of the field.

Sinner has really become a force to be reckoned with. I am hopeful we will see some more matches between him and Medvedev and him and Alcaraz in the first half of this year.
