Andrey gets through. Felix who had matchpoints, could not convert and was broken, and could not make an impact as Andrey served it out. It was a well contested match, evenly balanced until AR got the break in the decider. He'll face De Minaur in the QF.

Roger-Vasselin / Mahut out - a well contested match decided in a close tie break. Oh, well.

I watched the highlights and Raonic definitely has slimmed down and lost at least 20 pounds, so credit to him. Bublik looked a bit hampered though with his leg bandaged.
I saw only the brief highlights also, but it looked to me like Bublik was only wearing that calf brace (or whatever it is--maybe someone knows?) that he seems always to wear on his left leg. My guess is that his typically weak return of serve was the real issue. That's where he needs to do some work--along with the psychological work, that is:)

That half volley attemp on break point basically shows whats wrong with rune now, he doesnt know how to aproach important points anymore, at first he was being conservative, that worked for a while but he saw It wasnt gonna work on the long run, now he tries to be agressive but in the wrong way, anyway heres the win for sevchenko

Disappointing loss for Holger. Beginning to worry about the kid.
He even took the world's advice and banished his mom from tournaments. Nothing's worked so far.

Holger is out of the top 10 at the end of this year if he doesn't work on that return of serve.
Remember he has a ton of clay points to defend this spring. Finalist in MC/Rome, winner in Munich and QF at the French Open. He'll fall out of the top 10 by May if he can't get it together.

I think Rune has what it takes to be a champion. It’s a difficult phase for sure but it will make him stronger. He needs to figure it out. It takes a while.
He did take the huge step of banishing mommy, which is necessary but probably extremely difficult for him. It's on to Mexico now to play a 250, then Acapulco. He has almost no points to defend during the Sunshine double either.

Just checked some highlights of Rune - Shevchenko. First time seeing Shevchenko and must say I like his tennis. From the highlights he looked to go after the ball off both wings and his bh technique looks sound and efficient hitting some very clean winners. He also looked to have good variaton on his fh with angles and depth and not only going for pace. Rune otoh looked to play very tentatively and made some baffling unforced errors. That half-volley at 30-40.. ?? It is seldom you see pros miss the ball entirely.

For those who saw the match - was it a roughly fair impression given by the highlights?

To me Shevchenko can look great against the best players. He gave Sinner a heck of a test last year. Then he'll just vanish for months.

Ok thx - I'll try to catch his next match, looks like it's Dmitrov which could make for an entertaining match up.

I agree and hope you are right. When the score gets close he right now is wayyyyy too nervous in his body language and i guess he's overthinking big points

Sinner so smart I love watching him because he helps my game. That point he pulled monfils to the forehand corner, got a weak reply, Monfils takes off to the backhand corner, so Sinner hits it down the middle rather than going for the open court winner. He knows monfils wants to run and hit a circus winner. Hitting it down the middle forces monfils to stop, hit a shot out of position, giving Sinner an even easier ball to put away. I think most players take the bait and get Monfils on the run where he's dangerous.

Hi IQ tennis no doubt. The way he uses depth as well seeing how far back Monfils positions himself - getting winners from just hitting some ground strokes low and with less pace
