G.O.A.T.
Seed:
1. Alex de Minaur
2. FAA
3. Alexander Bublik
4. Daniil Medvedev
5. Karen Khachanov
6. Cameron Norrie
7. Tallon Griekspoor
8. Arthur Rinderknech

The defending champion, Carlos Alcaraz withdrew from the tournament as did Alexander Zverev. Big loss for the tournament.
Stan Wawrinka gets a wildcard and Hubie Hurkacz also appears in the main draw.

Popyrin leads the h2h with FAA, so will be interesting to see how FAA comes out of the gates if he wins in Montpellier.
Good stuff man - some potentially interesting encounters from the start. Keeping an eye on Stan / Vukic; Hurkacz / Bublik and FAA / Popyrin. Fils/ADM unlikely to be well contested unless AF finds much better form than in Montpellier. Curios as to whether Tsitsipas is in better form / how he'll fare against Rinderknech.

Yah man, could keep an eye on Rotterdam. Humbert held serve after going 0-40 in the 3rd game of the decider, similarly, in the 7th game. Medvedev frustrated at failing to capitalise, given a code violation for swearing, deserved another (for more swearing) but the umpire took a lenient view. UH did not concede momentum- good job to stay focused and get the win.

So was it all just a show? Why would Medvedev have said, "I have a flight to catch," if he hadn't already conceded the match (at least in his head)? That's pretty suspect.

Yah man, dude was not happy this match! Frustrated/angry - cut a sad figure at times, but he played it out. Fought to hold serve before UH served it out. Comms praised the umpire for remaining calm and trying to minimise the issues. Felt sorry for both players - MD for his frustrations and UH for having to ignore the nonsense.

Watching ADM/Fils - close thus far in the 1st, 4-4. ils looks improved from Montpelier.

So I'm watching Bublik v Hubie on TC app and my feed has no commentary so you can hear what Bublik is saying to his coaches between points - non-stop sh*t talking! :-D

"Shank, ace, shank, ace, winner, what the f is this s? They say I have no rhythm, I'm like Djokovic compared to this guy!":-D

Bublik has a very poor record against him.

Amazing, and hilarious, commentary from Bublik. Honestly, I love that type of thing, and wish we could hear more of it.

All these guys deal with the pressure and stress of the sport in different ways, and this is clearly his way. It's fun and fascinating.

Hey, if you are going to throw a match, this would be how you make it look as inconspicuous as possible.

Put on a show with strange complaints and fits of anger, which are not new for him, but do show that in some way he cares and is trying... Then fight like crazy to hold your last service game while a break down, knowing you can let the opponent hold and seal the match without looking bad because that's the expected outcome, and people were remember you were just fighting hard. THAT is how you throw a match!

Man, I watched the match live and can't say he threw it, or speculate how he might have done. No way of knowing.

Hurray! FAA gets his first win over Popyrin!
Yah man, good to see FAA playing well again. Have noted that 8 of his 9 ATP titles were on indoor hard - seems dude has developed a niche.

Will keep an eye on Bublik/Stan/FAA tomorrow.

Agreed. Whoever was in charge of audio for that court just turned the mic by Bublik's camp way up and let Sasha call the match lmao. He wasn't being disprectful, he was just venting to his team to let the frustration out in a less self destructive way. It was way more entertaining than hearing a commentator blab about their tiebreak records.
No audio whatsoever from Hubie's side.

edit: another good one was after Hubie hit a series of good shots the Cube says, "This guy hits the fence for 10 minutes then this, wtf?!?"

When did he make the comment, "I have a flight to catch?" I wasn't watching live, but it looked like his opponent was off court for a break, so I assume it was before the 3rd set started?

If so, that's just something really strange to say before the final set has even begun, no?

Agreed, it's great...

But maybe I'm biased because I tend to make similar comments when I play. Like if a guy hits a crazy winner, I'll say to my doubles partner, "don't worry, there is no way he's doing that again" (because at our level they definitely can't).

Demon carrying some casual Wilson shoes in with him to sit next to his bench to draw attention from his whited out Asics - commentator just noticed the big Asics branding on the side as he had to change shoes for busted laces

Stan rolled back the years today. Not the good ones ....('19-'25).

Sluggish start, and unforced errors all over the place. Never really at the races.

Personally I'd like Stan to win it all. Just saying.
Yah man, my wish too, but alas, not to be.
Couldn't watch any live tennis today- note that Tsitsipas continues to exit early, BVdZ through in straights. The 2 matches I want to watch still to be undertaken - hope they're good. Would like FAA and Bublik to get through.

I'm good with whoever now to be honest.

Is it just me, or are the balls used in Rotterdam are very heavy?

I remember that until 2023, they used the Tecnifibre X-One, which was complained was too light and slow.

Anyway, they should find something between Head and Tecnifibre.

I think Kraijcek wouldn't like it very much, but a final between Botic and Tallon would be incredible for the tournament. How long has it been since a Dutchman won the Rotterdam ATP 500?

Siemerink?
