Attack the volley like you are trying to spear your enemy

BTW is it better when both players have the same style in doubles or when they have slightly different roles?

I like it better when my partner plays a different style. This way, we can play off our strengths and can also be more adaptable to different conditions and different opponents. So my ideal partner is a tall lefty serve and volleyer who hits a flat ball and plays very aggressively. A few years ago, I played a lot of doubles with a partner who was even more of a counterpuncher than myself. We got along really well together, but we would often get overpowered by more balanced teams. I also had to overreach myself in trying to impose an aggressive net game on our opponents, which was a challenge for me.

Good doubles is both guys attacking the net and volleying. If one guy does something different to this it is not ideal.

The closer someone is to textbook doubles, the better. If you have a forehand like Verdasco however you dont need to serve and volley.

Do you serve and stay back in doubles?

Mostly I serve and volley though if my partner and I find staying back works better with a particular partner and against a particular team, I'll stay back. When I do serve and volley, I like having a partner up there who can cover most of the net, so I only have to worry about the angled crosscourt return.

Ok, from my experience you have to be like 1 and a half times as good from the baseline to play there rather than at net.

I used to stay back but at higher levels I just couldnt keep up, now I serve and volley and my volleys are nothing special either but its just a more optimal game style in doubles.

Attack your volleys like you're trying to volley well.
Spear analogy only works on sitter high balls, and if you're playing a peer or better, you seldom see those.
On volleys, you need to defend your body, reach wide and low, hit half volleys, reach forwards for low volleys, and get the occasional easy volley you can "spear".

I always lol when I see his serve:)

He talks so much smack it's ridiculous. DI tennis players would pass his as$ around like a joint

It looks like all you guys got badly trolled by this MMI guy.

It looks like he recognised that MMU was a beginner and pretended that MMU was another account of his in his suspicious "welcome to the forum post" so you guys would think that was his serve.

Excellent trolling by MMI, seriously top marks to him!

That would be epic. I think he's from England though; he always talks about the English federation and stuff like that. This is the real him. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHeFAI9Ec7A&feature=youtu.be

Ha. I remember pointing out that he was taking a step with his foot while serving and he had no clue he was doing it, even after watching the vid. Some coach.

Well I suppose it explains his "don't ever serve and volley" comments. I would balk too if I had a serve like that....

What do you want me to say about it? I dont wish to reveal my identity.

Uh, for starters, what "D1 level college tennis" even exists in Europe? My wife grew up playing juniors and club tennis in Germany and as far as I know, there is no collegiate tennis. And even if there is in some form, how in the world do you draw parallels in levels to D1 tennis in the US? If this were even remotely the case, Europeans would not be half of the tennis rosters on US D1 schools.

Good not to reveal your identity.
You don't want to reveal any truth, right?
And of course, you don't want to be held accountable.
I can say that because I've posted my phone and email on here, and have played with a few of the West Coast posters.

A guy number 2 on my college team played top 75 d1 college tennis at the number 2 spot in singles and 1st doubles before he joined us. Many European Colleges have guys that have ATP points, some even have previous rankings around 600(this is the best guy I have seen play). They also have very strong young players who play futures and have points such as Scott Whitbread who plays for Loughborough University.

Whilst there is not the depth the level is still very high. Instead of 75 very strong teams there is 10 very strong teams. Most European events take place with a very small number of teams, like less than 10.

How is that for information?

Pretty weak. Give us some links to school rosters, leagues, results… anything! I've heard of some schools have "club teams" but nothing like NCAA or NAIA college sports here. If you get a stray "player" in a club, I don't think you can put yourself in a group with D1 level players. Sorry.

It's complete and utter BS. With the all the lies you've told, the only way anyone will believe you is if you reveal who you are and prove you are who you say you are. Until then, you're MMI with the serve in the video you posted as MMU.

His posting mannerisms and general style of his lack of command of the English language doesn't seem very European to me. I don't think there is 'college tennis' in Europe. I think he's American and maybe spent some time in europe on vacation or something or at the most moved there at some point. He doesn't play with D1 level players and never was a coach.

Ask Ash Smith. He will tell you I am right. Do you believe me yet?

If you want I can name some players from European Colleges and something about them or their tennis, I would only know about them from being at a tournament with them and seeing them play, would that end it for you or Topspin Shot?

No. Because of your history of lying, you have to be held to a higher standard to earn our trust. You would have to make a video of yourself playing and then speak into the camera so we know it's you in the video.

I am a racquet noob, I admit that.

Want me to give you info about players in European Universities that I would only know if I have played with them and saw their games?

If it's information that only you would know, then there's no way for us to verify whether said information isn't made up. Nice try.

If you're going to give info on other players, the least you can do to prove some truth is to name them.
And of course, name yourself, otherwise, you're just another old man stalking a young person's forum.

The name Whitbread rang a bell, but it's obviously just a coincidence.

They also have very strong young players who play futures and have points such as Scott Whitbread who plays for Loughborough University.

Sheet you got me :( I thought you were trying to trick me with the academy thing. Should of just said yes, damnit.

Time to come clean. I dont coach there and dont have any kids playing the ITF in Liverpool mid november either but I am actually a coach lol. Does Scott Whitbread play there much?

PS. Can you get me a job coaching there? Sound if you can!

So defensivetennis is MMI? This is confusing.

MMI trolled about himself and got banned. He then came back under the username Topslice, trolled, and got banned. Now he is using the name DefensiveTennis and is still trolling. As MMI, he posted a video of himself serving under the separate username MMU. He didn't want to post the video under his current incarnation because he claimed to be a high level player and coach whereas the serves indicate he is really of the low intermediate level. He also, as DefensiveTennis, made a couple posts under the usename Flint. That about sums it up. What we have here is a mediocre tennis player with a pathological lying problem.

DT is also posting in the Adults League section with stuff like this:

Instead of giving the player the benefit of the doubt on a close call I will call them out in important matches.

I will try to upset my opponent by upsetting his rhythm, intimidating him with my intensity and determination to win.

I will use any form of gamesmanship within reason I can to win.
