Robredo doesn't care guys,,, he won the Diamond Ball last week.... and made out with his mixed doubles partner...

yes Isner! great match

It really was a good one! :)

In the post-match interview, John was talking about the see-saw nature of especially the third set and mentioned the net cord that went tommy's way when john had bp and said tommy popped a string on that last FH on match point, causing the ball to go long and giving John the win!

yea it was a very ebb/flow sort of match, could have sworn Isner was toast after squandering 4 bps at 4-3.

for such a tall guy Isner's 2nd serve% is pretty dreadful at 39. he needs to get with the program

Congratulations to Isner.

I didn't think he could do it, especially not against Tommy.

Now go on and win this title!

Interesting .... There's an all-Brazilian Doubles QF going on right now ... don't see any links anywhere.

M Melo (BRA) / B Soares (BRA) vs T Bellucci (BRA) / A Sa (BRA)

Melo/Soares won the first set 7-5

First Semifinal of the day ..........................

2czdfo2.jpg

I like Albert, and I believe he's in better form this year than he was last ...... but John's coach, in an on-court interview during a match at Hopman Cup, referred to Isner as "6 foot 10" ........ Even tho John's size and serve didn't stop Robredo from almost beating him yesterday, Tommy was the no. 1 seed here, and Albert is the no. 8 .....

Match begins @ the top of the hour, 12 noon Auckland ............

Yeah, and who other than Robredo does anyone know of in this tournament.. I think if I went back into practice, I could have won this years Auckland Tourny ;)

I guess you could say Isner is a bit of an unknown ... in fact, he's unseeded in this tourny ... think you could have beaten him the way he's been serving this week? :)

His opponent for today's final has been around almost 20 years ... Arnaud Clement ... ever heard of him? ;)

can't believe that Le Cle beat Kohli!! now that's a big upset!

Kohli's FH wasn't working right yesterday ... He kept the match relatively close, but he hit a lot of errors with the FH, and Arnaud did quite a bit of damage at the net ..... He was taking a lot of time between points because of the heat and having to take his glasses off almost between every point, but if it's that hot again today, I don't think Isner is gonna complain.

What a height mismatch:
Clement is 5 feet, 8 inches.
Isner is 6 feet, 10 inches (according to his coach last week)

I feel sorry for the ballkids then.:?-since he was probably asking a lot for the towel etc. ANYWAY,it will be an interesting match-I would be sure for Isner's win,but since arnaud already beat Kohli I'm not so sure anymore.

Plus a couple of the ballkids almost got their heads taken off by Isner serves ... they ran for their lives from that incoming rocket! :D

He is using the towel a lot, but then I've really started to notice how many of the men go to it almost every point ....... After seeing that final between Henin and Clijsters where I never saw them go for the towel once! Quite a revelation! ;)

It's just a guess to figure how long after the doubles match starts at 1:00 p.m., but I'll estimate the singles final will start 3:00 p.m. (or a little before ;)) ..... Since Auckland is 21 hours ahead of California, that would be 6:00 p.m. Pacific, 9:00 p.m. Eastern, and 2:00 a.m. GMT

It is? Can't find a link anywhere ...... Are you watching it?

Yeah I'm watching it live on TV One (in New Zealand) so I don't know about links. It's not quite started yet, they are just showing an interview with Clement. It's his first singles final in 3 years. Unbelievable that he beat Chardy, Ferrer, Melzer, and Kohli all in a row.

ugh...isner needs to get a grip on his UEs

It's 2-2 in the third set!

But now Clement's taken the next game, 3-2...Isner serving next. Can he ace his way to a win? Might be his best chance.

It's back to 3 all, and while Isner's doing well with the aces overall (14 or 15 in the match thus far), he's still making errors...

4-3, Clement in the third set. Isner now serving...now he's got 17 aces to Clement's 8 as he takes his service game 4-4

Isner has 36 errors for the match, with Clement less than half that! Clement's definitely playing better overall. Isner's getting a little too sloppy here.

Clement ahead 5-4...Isner now serving...and made it! 5-5

But Clement leads 6-5 after we watch Isner smack the ball hard into the net...oy

Isner aces-and-errors-and-aces-again his way into a 6-6 in the final set tiebreaker

What a way to end it!!!

Isner FTW!!

Congrats to John... too bad for Arnaud but what a good run so late in his career.

Best of luck to both guys at the Aussie Open :)

good question! :) He had over 20 aces today, probably 22 (but the match stats say 12 erroneously) .... OTOH he also had over 36 UE

Yeah, he played in a herky-jerky fashion, I thought...great tennis for a point or two and then - bam, into the net. Then another ace or two and a good forehand to the back corner and then - bam, into the net. It's not super fun to watch, I think, but - hey he won the tournament, so who am I to diss it that much!

Congrats to this young American and let's see if he can get that UE level down this year...:)

Just seen the score! Way to go John Isner! His first title I believe. The Americans are coming!!

I just like the guy, seems very level headed and good natured.

That was actually a really good final. I feel a bit sorry for Clement, having that match point and all, but nice one Isner.
