Agassi may be out. Too bad, if so. Tennis needs the old fellah.

Where'd you hear that? I'd be surprised if he doesn't play. He committed to Kooyong already.

I see Safin is hoping to be able to play. Whether he will be able to is another question. he must find this current injury very frustrating and depressing, just like the wrist injury of a couple of years ago. (Which was self-inflicted...diving accident..on the court. He doesn't dive for balls anymore, if fact I don't see anyone doing that now)

If Safin can't play I hope Berdych makes a splash. The surface is perfect for his game, I just hope that he's tweaked his style to cut down on those UFEs.

Fee,

Which American player is expected to get the men's Wild Card and, on the women's side, is there any suggestion the USTA might lobby for one to Alexa Glatch and/or Vania King? They'd be too interesting and worthy, especially King, recipients.

heard agassi mite not b at the A.O becos of ankle injury. Said if his not ready he wont play.

Agassi in doubt for Open

Andre Agassi's participation in next month's Australian Open is in doubt because of a lingering ankle injury. The 35-year old picked up the injury while playing racquetball on October 12th and aggravated it further during the season-ending Masters Cup in Shanghai last month.

Mauresmo still dreaming

Agassi has recently confirmed his presence at the Kooyong invitational tournament - his regular pre-Australian Open warm-up - but his early season plans are still in doubt because of the injury.

"Australia has now become a concern, no question about it," said Agassi. "Until this is better, I can't make any sure statements. Right now, I'm worried about my training. I have hope that the next week or two will be big gains."

The American, who was slated by the ATP and organisers of the Shanghai Masters Cup for pulling out of the event, said that playing his first round match against Nikolay Davydenko was to blame for his current situation.

"It's arguably worse now than it was two weeks ago, so I set myself back going to Shanghai," added Agassi. "After my experience in Shanghai, I can confidently say I'll never get on the court again unless I'm 100% ready."

Don't know anything about women's tennis, sorry, but I don't think the USTA agreed to a trade for the women, it was just for the men because of Flip.

The next ranked men that did not get direct entry are Morrison, Vahaly, and Delic, so they might just pick one of those guys. I'm sure Jan-Mike will ask for it, but I don't think he should get it. It's possible they will consider one of the young players like Scoville Jenkins or Wayne Odesnik, but I bet they end up wasting it on Donald Young, who will get spanked again.

They better give it to Sco!! Nah, Sco doesn't really deserve it. He's sucked pretty bad lately and I think he would kind of blow it if he were to get it. Unless of course he manages to get his act together over the break. Oh and Fee, you have any idea if his wrist is still bothering him any? I know he hasn't done nearly as well since he had to retire in the qualies of Tulsa due to the wrist, so I was thinking maybe it was still a bit of a problem.

And it wouldn't surprise me if Donald got it, since he did win the junior event last year. But if he did get it, youd most likely be right. Unless he manages to maybe bulk up a tad more, that would be the only way he might get somewhere, unless he managed to get to play a pretty low ranked qualifier or something. I mean he did manage to get the 1st set of his USO match to a tie-break, so maybe he could actually do it again but win the set instead, but then he'd have to manage to somehow get 2 more sets, so in the end it would probably still be a waste... but yeah, you never know I guess.

And judging from results, out of the 3 you mentioned, Vahaly deserves the WC. He's won 2 challengers and got to the finals of another, plus he did manage to win a tour level match. IMO if they gave it to Morrison it would be a waste, seeing as he's only won 3 of 19 of his tour level matches this year. Thats not so good (granted, its waaay better than what I would do, so Im one to talk) lol. And granted, Vahaly only won 1 of 3, but thats still a better percentage than what Morrison has. But anyway... Morrison also didnt even win a challenger this year, but he did get to a final so yeah... that still doesnt mean much IMO. And then Delic, he also won a challenger, but only won 1 of 5 matches at tour level. So really it looks like Vahaly has done the best and, IMO, would do the best. But then again I may be wrong...

Fee,

Which American player is expected to get the men's Wild Card...

There is going to be a playoff for the USTA wildcard later this week in Florida amongst the highest ranked American players under the age of 23 (or maybe it's 24 if it's true that Fruttero has been invited). They seem to be working out the final details, but it will be either 6 or 8 players in possibly a round robin format. Possible players include Delic, Ram, Bogomolov, Baker, Widom, Odesnik, Jenkins, and Rettenmaier (depends on which week's rankings they use). Look for an announcement early next week (good timing, I think the guys have to submit their names for AO qualies by the 19th).

The Australian wildcard playoff was won by Marc Kimmich and the American wildcard playoff was won by Amer Delic (yay for Amer).

OUT: Beck, Canas, N.Lapentti, J.Novak, Puerta, Soderling (and Saretta from ALT)

IN: Lisnard, Gimelstob, Starace, Sluiter, H-T.Lee, Vicente

NEXT: Mello, Sabau, Marin, Almagro, O.Hernandez, Waske, A.Costa, F.Mantilla

He's announced it, but he's not off the official list yet (that should happen in the next 24 hours). Rusedski has announced he's not going, but he's not off the entry list yet either. Fingers crossed for Nadal. :)

He's not coming back until the South American swing that begins after the AO.

Verkerk and J Johansson are now officially out of the main draw entry list.
