Australian Open 2007

Given Fed's success there, why is everyone touting Nadal as the favorite? Nadal has yet to even play on Rebound Ace, much less prove he can beat the big hitters on it.

Nadal played at the AO in 2005, remember?

Personally, I like Nadal's chances because the court goes well with Nadal's game. Which isn't to say that it doesn't go with Safin's, or Fed's, or whoever's as well.

I dunno. The AO SHOULD be Nadal's second best slam, and I'm a Nadal fan. I guess that's not really a GOOD reason, but at least I'll admit that I have biased reasons. I doubt you'll find many other people willing to do the same.

Eh? Hell, I don't even think Nadal is the favorite around here to win the FO, let alone the AO. Usually, for clay courters, you can add a round to their average USO performance to gauge how well they will do at the AO. Doesn't tend to work with a small sample size, though. I suspect Nadal will go out in the QF, or if he gets a cake draw(wimbly-like) the SF.

I can't believe you guys refuse to admit that Nadal didn't have a pansy draw at Wimbledon. Since when are Andre Agassi, Jarkko Nieminen, and Marcos Baghdatis pansy opponents? Or how about that Robert Kendrick being in the zone in his match against Nadal?
Nadal worked and played just as hard as anyone else at that tournament, and it's shameful that you guys won't give him the respect he earned.

RAFA will win the Aussie open in Jan, he will hit so much topspin that he will force Fed into 78 unforced errors. This Rebound Ace is made from tire Rubber, and ball will bounce extremely high and topspin will spin 10X more. FED will not know what hit him...........

Because Nadal game fits Rebound ace. It takes the spin very well. Which is always a plus for Nadal. Plus it's not like he can't play on hardcourts

As a side note as you probably know they are speeding up the courts at AO

He had an easy draw, but it wasn't like he got a free ticket to the final, and being a clay courter it would still be quite the challenge for him. It doesn't change the fact that he couldn't have asked for an easier draw in a major, just like Blake in TMC.

Very true. And Federer's oppoents were injuried or not good enough at all to challenge/beat Federer

You have got to be joking me. It was almost a foregone conclusion that if he made it to the third round he would play a sentimentally adrenalized Agassi, and he couldn't have asked for an easier draw? He played an in form Baghdatis and beat the stuffing out of him after doing the same to an in form Nieminen, and he couldn't have asked for an easier draw? Heh heh... Alright man, you think what you want to.

I was court-side for the Nieminen match and let me tell you, if he would of been in form he should of taken that match. The number of passing shots that he missed, or simple unforced errors was cringe worthy. As it was he still had lots of chances and Nadal never really looked totally comfortable. It seemed like the occasion got to Nieminen.

Rafa has what it takes to get to the finals unless he runs into Berdych or Blake before then. Then its game over.

And Federer into the finals is a given.;)

If by "sentimentally adrenalized" you mean "old and washed up," then yeah, he certain did have to face him. Agassi sucked all year. 10-8 on the season.

Baghdatis? Baghdatis has lost in the first round of every grass court tournament he's played in his life until this Wimbledon.

An "in form" Nieminen? Is that supposed to be irony? He went 0-for-the-year against top 10 opponents.

Nadal's draw was a joke. As are his chances at the Aussie. The guy has had his chances there, and has bungled them. He's a career zero at the AO. Lleyton Hewitt's personal plaything. I'm not sure even yet another dream-draw can save him here. It couldn't at the US. (Where, I know, I know, he faced a paralyzing assault by an inspired, tactically flawless, and at-the-top-of-his-game Youzhny  .) Nadal hasn't faced a legit opponent since the French, and has crapped the bed.

Who the hell says that Nadal is the favorite? Federer is the defending champion and the winner of 3 slams in 2006 plus the Masters Cup. No one comes close to him right now on hard court, it's plain and simple. The only slam I would put Nadal as the perennial favorite would be Roland Garros given that he's won it the past two years.

Agassi was barely able to walk near the end of the year as you saw with the camera on him after losing to Benjamin Becker at the U.S Open. He could have easily lost his first round match. No Agassi at that point in time was not a tough draw. Nieminen is not a tough opponent in the quarters of a Grand Slam, that is also a very good draw. Baghdatis might be a tough opponent in the quarters, but for the semis he is also a good draw. A tougher draw would have been something like:

4th round-Berdych or Ancic or Gasquet
quarters-Nalbandian or Ljubicic or Murray
semis-Roddick or Hewitt

just couple things as far as AO is concerned, first of all, McNamee is no longer the tournament director, and second of all this year the surface is supposed to be faster to better suit Hewitt. McNamee had a long battle with Leyton over the surface; you could hear about it all over the media last year. Hewitt was complaining that a grand slam in his own country is not trying to help him out.I guess McNamee is gone, faster surface is in:)
That is just to make sure that some people dont get too excited about the height of the bounce of some players' topspin:)

RAFA will Destroy Fed in the Aussie open, and make a mince meat out of him, hmmmmmmmmmmm, delicious,,,,,, yummmmmmmmmy.................

You think Nadal is good, i can deal with that. He is your favourite player, i can deal with that too. But what i cannot deal with is all of the ******** that you talk. You act as if he is the greatest player ever, which he isnt, and he is yet to prove himself as a grandslam winner on any other surface than clay. On the other hand fed has proven himself on every surface, though not as much on clay. And Nadal may be able to push federer, and maybe even beat him a few times he is far from the best player on tour. You are just another fanboi who thinks the sun shines out of every hole in nadals body and it is getting annoying with all of your biased posts. I know it isnt only me that is annoyed so please do us a favour and go by facts not what is in your one sided brain.

Look Buddy, the speed of the court does not affect the height of the bounce and how much the court takes spin of any sort. So it is little faster so what. It will just help RAFA use that incredible Lefty Slice serve to Fed's backhand and make him look Silly. and Mcnamee out, then who is the new director?? Is it too late to call him and bug him to change the surface color ?? Did they finishe the courts already?? We still have 1 and 1/2 month left........

Make it faster? what are they gonna do? turn down the amount of sand in the paint? There's only so much you can do with an artificial surface without getting a different kind. I kind of liked how they had it:
FO: Very slow, very high bounce(generally)
AO: medium speed, high bounce.
USO: fast, medium bounce
Wmbly: Very fast, very low bounce.

I have been reading some post of your and it is incerdible how inconsistent and truth changing you are. One day you say Fed will get his butt kicked by Nadal, then when he wins you make some pathetic excuses and claim that Rafa will win the next time. When he loses again, you claim that the AO surface that will make Nadal's topspin jump over Fed will be a factor in Fed's horrible lose at AO. Now, that you know that the surface is faster you come up with another lame excuse. Fans like you are really giving Nadal a bad rep and you claim yo be his best friend:)
By the way, Craig Tiley is the new director, the number is 1800-Head-Doctors
Please, call, tell them about your obsesion with Rafa and constant lying, i am sure that can help you.
And also please, stop the lame excuses. Rafa is a great player, however, so far Fed is #1 and nothing looks to change in that manner.
You need to quit all of that trash talk and wait until AO. I am just sick of your bitter and rude posts.

Re: post number 35, by Rafa's BEst Friend.
Yes, tennis players get all stressed out the moment the Farmer's Almanac comes out and the weather during a slam does not favor their style of play. Geez, man.[rolls eyes]

I try not to say this too often, but, RBF, you're funny. Or you're a serious dork.
Either way, thanks for the laughs, kid.

these are all jokes folks...exception to 2005, federer is a lock to get to the final, as he has 0 troubles with any player, exception of nadal

nadal will trouble federer more on the rebound ace surface than on grass or a hard court such as in shanghai, but federer's clicked into his zone since post-wimbledon...he's on like a 27 or 29 something match win streak, and i think he'll continue his dominance from us open 2006 through the 2007 AO, just as sampras sort of did from us open 1996 through 1997 AO....

not trying to go too much into comparisons, but sampras beat muster at the AO, was it the qtrs? thats the closest comparison of styles of games...comparing muster to nadal

nonetheless i still think, credit to nadal for keeping his head up and wanting to work hard to improve his game, but federer's mentality has changed now

he's not afraid or hesitant against anyone, and i think he'd beat nadal if the two meet in the final, like in 3 very tight sets, 4 tight sets, or 5 sets with 1 set not being as close as the others

but just my opinion...i know rafa's best friend will disagree :)

no it was an easy draw here is why, nadal played bogdanovic, kendrick, aggasi, niememen, and so on. in nadals half of the draw, there were ljubicic, roddick, hewitt, blake, who all could beat him on grass, but they all dropped out early. i mean nadal played labanze in the QF. federer played gasquet in the first round, and henman, and berdych, and ancic, and made them look like bums. of course nadal had an easy draw, thats how he got to the final.

Haas, Safin, and Nadal could all likely cause problems for Fed on rebound ace. Haas and Safin the only pre-final bogeys, of course.

Part of the reason that Nadal made the Wimbledon final was that he improved his game, especially the placement of his first serve. However, it would be ludicrous to think that he had anything but a pansy draw. Likewise, at the US Open. Its not his fault of course that the luck of the draw fell his way. At any rate, his Wimbledon draw was peanuts compared to you-know-who's draw from hell.

BTW, Zuras's signature is getting funnier and funnier by the day. After the allegations against poor Grim, I am totally knocked out to see Fee, of all people, singled out for the Zuras Treatment. What next?

Yeah it's true that happens in your dreams.

Nadal will get himself blasted off the court by Federer if not by some random player in the earlier rounds. In fact, it has been scientifically proven that Roger Federer's forehand is hit with so much topspin that he generates a category 5 tornado, killing Nadal and everyone in the stadium.

Rafa's topspin forehand? Don't make me laugh.
