Djokovic or Murray?

As with Stan in the semis, Djokovic finishes off with a bagel. He outlasted both players because without a shadow of a doubt he is the fittest player in the world.

Stan at least took it to 5. Andy couldn't even manage that. A very strange and disappointing performance from him considering how he played to get to the final. I just don't know what happened to him but massive congrats to Novak and his fans, it must be great for them both right at this moment!

Who is this arse the BBC saying it is all mental? the guy ran out of gas. If it was different with Lendl that is because he trained him so hard he was still tired in matches. but maybe that endurance training could have helped today. or not- who knows.

finally djokovic is the GOAT of his own slam. Yessssss. Im so happy at this moment. 8 grand slam titles is a great achievement. Roland garros here we come!!

Congrats Noleberic and all the fans of Djokovic of course.

Good day for you no doubt!!

Novak Djokovic is the best player in the world and also the greatest Australian Open champion IMO.

What a horrible end to a decent match. The first set was terrific. Murray
just gave up after the 3rd set. Pathetic attitude from him. He is still a loser mentally without Lendl. I overestimated his hunger.

Eh..he has money, a woman and a wimbledon crown.

Mission accomplished.

Congrats to Djokovic for moving ahead of Federer at AO. He was already ahead due to tougher competition but now he has officially confirmed it.

You overestimated him. Period.

Just like you overestimate Ferrer, Nadal on HC, ect..

And I'm saying this as someone who likes Murray.

Murray is closer to Roddick and Hewitt in playing level than Djokovic, and tonight made it obvious.

Murray tried extremely hard in this match and played a lot of good stuff. Nole presents an incredibly difficult challenge on this court and played a very very good match. He wore Murray down...

Well deserved win for Novak, better man won. Murray will have his chances for the rest of the year though.

it isn't that unfortunate that there was only ONE winner tonight.............duh.

and this match was NOT that exciting.... stupid boring blowout 4th set.

I really believe so. Murray was able to keep up his intensity of movement and lateral recovery for about 2.5 hours but he couldn't sustain it. It became clear half way through set 3 that even when Murray was hitting more accurate shots he was having to work too hard to recover to neutral enough positions while Djokovic was in the groove effortlessly reaching almost every ball. Interestingly, Djokovic's movement in set 1 was questionable but by set 2 onwards it was outstanding and he can sustain it for 4/5/6 hours.

Murray can only equal Djokovic in terms of not giving up ground on the baseline for about 3 hours.

great point..all we hear is about how hard he works, and he seems to be in the kind of shape the Big 3 are (we're back to Big 3 again, I assume) but he doesn't hold up like them for the most part, of his career...it seems like the 3 were great athletes from their youth, but Murray had to work much harder to get a semblance of what they have easier

Djokovic rarely if ever gets tired. He also comes back amazingly from injury. Other players are gonna have to get used to that if they want to beat this beast this year.

Eh..the greatest on plexicushion

OK, but he has 5 titles now. He has a perfectly legitimate argument for being the greatest AO Champion. Not every AO was played on Rebound Ace you know.

Federer did manage to win the AO on multiple surfaces but Djokovic has won 5 titles so he has a good argument. Some can argue for Roy Emerson.

Thank you for putting in a nutshell what I've tried to say on this forum for the last 3-4 years.

Smelled this result from a mile off.
Did anyone think this wouldn't happen?

First he gives Stan 6-0, now Andy too?
Well done to him, but I'd like to know what he's eating at changeovers.

Djokovic for the CYGS.

The concern for Murray is his inability to hold on to leads. He lost a few matches last year because of this.

He is certainly playing better but this must be a painful loss for him. He had the lead and momentum in the third set and completely blew it.

Djokovic is certainly the reigning king at the Australian Open, like Federer is at Wimbledon and Nadal is at the French. They each are GOATs of a slam. Astonishing.

This guy from Kia always start off with "Gentleman" and his English never seems to get better.

Eating bbq dog does that

Also, for the first time I will officially rate Djokovic above Agassi. 8 slams, every other metric Djokovic has achieved > Everything Agassi has achieved.

I agree

Every year this boring speech from Kia CEO !! Awful !!
representing Kia is as exciting for him

She can coach you next year!

"Weak era".

that runner up trophy should be made of PURE silver. otherwise it isn't fair to the runner up person who is all crying and unhappy and so on...............

Hewitt would not be able to play like the way he did for 3 sets against the AO GOAT in his dreams. Sod off. Murray went away mentally. Hewitt does not have the game. Failed attempt at point scoring.

Congrats to Novak, and I'm totally charmed by the guy, I have to admit. Turning point of the match was when he won the third set while imitating Paul Reubens's death scene from the movie Buffy the Vampire Slayer - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wE74RNgwSkQ

Just completely flummoxed Murray, and then took his chances when they came. Can't ask for much more than that - pretty damn great.

Yep, thats the sad part. You try as hard as any of them but when someone is more naturally gifted than you what do you do.
Same with Maria vs Serena.

Novak vs Murray for YE#1??

I think it's very possible.

Murray is trending upward right now, not downward.

We'll see on Rafa...

Congrats to Novak and his fans. A great achievement to take the record for most AO's, and he cemented his place as the best player in the world for the moment. This also laid a good foundation for a possible multi-slam year for him

Good on Andy too, though I am a bit disappointed that he faltered somewhat at the start of the third set when up a break. I firmly believe this loss was to a great deal a mental one – Novak upped his level at the important moments whereas Murray got somewhat distracted.
I think his game and fitness is back, and now good enough to compete for the slams. He should definitely have a good year, and I think he has great chances for Wimbledon!
