Australian Open 2015 Final: Novak Djokovic vs Andy Murray

Djokovic or Murray?

79 for Djoko, 80 for Murray (more favoring Murray in the fifth, which to me indicates it's also a bit of a hopeful position to take).

I'm picking Murray but it surprises me a bit that I'm not in the minority.
But this is very close to a 50-50 match imo.

I think every single Fed fan picked either Wawrinka or Murray to beat Nole (and many such as yourself picked both):)

oh so thisis all about Novak playing possum...Murray does it too. I think after those first 2 sets we were looking at possibly the most brutal tennis match ever.

Not only about Djokovic and Murray, but for anybody playing possum then proceeds to continue to play high intensity again. It's disgraceful to resort to that and to attempt to disrupt the other competitor.

i agree it is very annoying... I never ever do it on court. Im annoyedwith Nadal,Murray and Nole doing this... why?

Good one...
I don't recall picking Wawa? I said Novak was a 60-40 favorite iirc.

I picked Murray despite of the odds, because Novak appeared physically frailer to me (and a lot of others) in that Wawa match, while Murray appeared very strong. With all the long rallies in mind and Djoko coming from recent illness, I thought that could make a physical difference in Murray's favor. Not quite.

Alas, Djoko was playing possom ;-) and he remains the fittest guy on tour

btw, contrary to you and your Fed-dislike, I don't dislike Novak at all - rather the opposite. 9 times out of 10, I would root for Novak instead of Murray in their matches as I like his tennis more.
But because of all the lost finals and because I want Murray back as a serious contender, I went with Murray today (and no, it's got nothing to do with me not wanting Novak having 5 AO's - that was gonna happen this year or the next anyhow and I'm happy for him).

That's because your 2 hours level of play is like 1 minute of their play

To respond intelligently to a silly answer. No, because for me it is a game and for them it is a job with serious stakes. Grow up.

To get back on topic. Somehow I can forgive Connors and Mac for seriously idiotic baby-like behavior but playing possum seems worse. Perhaps it is because those were honest meltdowns. It is a bad trend for the sport. Im not a Fed fan but am a Wawrinka one and Ive never seen either feign injury. Im a Murray/Nole fan but I dont like it when they do this. I was a Nadal fan and his hystrionics cost me my support for him.

it matters not in the grand scheme but Im hardly the only one who has noticed.... that aggregate response matters.

Some things are more important than sport and character defines ones actions. Did Guga or Edberg ever pull this?

All that said Im certain these guys are actually hurting out there those first 2 sets were like 6 and the grind of that style of play means the body will be hurting. Thing is when it is done to reset the momentum of a match.

The quality of tennis was very high in those first two sets, and then Murray basically fell off a cliff mentally. It's pretty crazy seeing two combined bagels in the deciding sets in SFs, and Finals. Disappointing.

Congrats to the Djoker. He's so mentally tough. I can see him winning 3 of 4 slams this year, maybe even all 4 if Nadal is not healthy for the FO.

after those first 2 sets I thought it would be a 6-7 hour match. I think they both knew that. Thing is Nole hammered Andy's 2nd serve. That was only going to get worse.

It's true mentally Nole has Andy... probably because he has no weaknesses and Andys 2nd is one. Though I think Andy has an edge at Wimbledon due to the surface...its a matchup thing.

The only player with more fighting spirit than Nole is Rafa.

well if he was acing the way he aced in previous matches,
it all could have looked different. his 1st wasn't clutch.

Yep. Murray's 1st serve wasn't all like it was in his previous matches, and his 2nd was pure garbage. Cost him dearly imho - in other words, the entire match.

Momo has some work to do...

true... but nobody beats Novak consistently by serving aces.

Novak's game has more margin...muzz needs to tuzz up the 2nd. It is pretty clear.

I just had too. :)

Congratulations Novak! Loved the t-shirt Kim S was wearing. As for the ding-dongs who ran out onto the court-I hope they're happy with themselves....

Yeah Nole has been incredible indoor. W should be enough for Fed :)

Ha ya hope so, if he gets it this year I think he will have a great shot at the record.

My mistake if you picked Nole vs Waw, but I thought you said you were picking Waw in 4 or 5 (with your heart)?

Also Chan, I was mostly trolling in this post I know you are fairly objective in your posts and that you don't hate Nole, but this is not the case for many other fed fans like tennis_pro who get on my nerves.

I'm also sorry it comes off as I dislike Federer. Honestly he is probably my 5th favorite player on tour right now (after Nole, Del Po, Kei, and Wawrinka) and I remember us having some rather fruitful conversations when I first came to this forum around May or so last year. Its just that ever since the Wimbledon final the amount of backlash against Nole by Fed fans has turned me very sour to the fanbase and by projection possibly to the player as well.

Let's be honest, a lot of people needed shutting the hell up. This victory is even sweeter for it...

Murray or Stan winning would have had its perks as well, but Wawrinka did not disgrace himself in the semi and showed that he has become a genuine big time player.. came closer to beating Djokovic than Murray did anyway.

Novak Djokovic is the best player in the world.

Novak Djokovic can reach the double-didgeridoo.

So everyone knows, I predicted Djokovic would win the AO way back.. like October last year or something? I always expected it.

No worries, I do recall putting Novak as a 60 % favorite. I don't recall picking a winner (I mainly argued against Vero in that said, who kind of thought the mere idea of Stan having a chance was ludicrous), but I might have said: head Djoko, heart Wawa or something like that. Wawa is my 2nd favorite when he's on. And Djoko is around 5th for me as well.
(and if I had to pick a pre-tournament it would have been Novak ;-) though his illness made me doubt him more than I otherwise would have)

I do recall those early great discussions as well and I totally get what you mean - spend enough time here and you end up arguing against certain fanbases and if you're not careful that spills over on the player as well.

Anyhow, I'm taking a break from the forum, enjoy the sweet victory. Many more to follow, I believe.

Oh come on, Murray is The Possum King, The Possumator, the Possusaurus. He is just showing how weak he is when trying to find a reason for losing the focus in Novak.

There were no medical time outs or anything like that. The biggest distraction was the "political protest", since it actually stopped the play. That break playing into Murray's hands.

It should be Djoker complaining about his luck, not Murray complaining about Novak shaking his hand or his feet to get them moving again.

I actually forgot about it; it is true that Djokovic got iced by those dudes/dudettes for something like 5 minutes just before his serve.

His posturing wasn't nice for sure but Murray had bigger issues than Joker's fake injury. Andy was too passive and allowed Novak to dictate the majority of the big points and from some point onwards all of the points. This is what lost him the match, not Novak's admittedly dodgy antics.

this murray not the same

Corrected for more precise description.

murray was not at his top of fitness. he is coming off the Back surgery. and once you have that, you are never 100 %. Wimbledon winning Murray would have beat Novak yesterday just as he has done before.........

Sounds good, the victory was joyous ha appreciate the congrats. Enjoy your break. Will talk to you soon. I'll try to avoid Fed conversations in the near future so that my admiration of the player has time to be reborn ha.

You're a Fed fan? You certainly don't come off as such ha I respect your positions even more knowing that.
