Yes in modern sports were the early 30s are still the Current Gen (see basketball with Durant, Curry and LeBron in their 30s still being the best players, and Cristiano and Messi aged 33 winning the Ballon d'Or in football).

Plus, Roddick won his only Slam and was 13 weeks #1 in the pre-Big 3 era, when players like Ferrero (?) could be #1. 2003 was a vacuum.
Dude, Thiem probably wouldn't even win a slam in 2003. The current era is an immense vacuum. Just because the Big 3 are still winning, doesn't mean it isn't.

I think he had nothing left after the 5 set comeback vs Kyrgios. Dimitrov isn’t a good matchup for him as well. No crowd, no energy. He looked flat and uninspired. These things happen. Now if you wanna talk about disappointment Auger-Alissime was the biggest loss for me. After the beatdown he gave Shapovalov and then go up 2 sets to love vs the qualifier Karatsev and lose in 5? I’m sorry, that loss was worse.
Thiem's 5 setter wasn't even that long.

Thiem was physically and mentally cooked before that match even started. And Dimitrov played very well and very smart.

Hmmm I thought Thiem would really pull this off and win. Guess he's much worse than I thought. Dimitrov didn't do anything special, wasn't playing that well.
Yes, Thiem made a ton of errors, but you have to give credit where it’s due. Dimitrov played the more important points better.

He had a “tough draw” Wow. Really?
On paper, he could have an aging Wawrinka on R4, Zed in QF (which he still has), Thiem in SF. That would be tough on paper... if they made it to the meeting.

His early round opponents were also a bit more substantial than Nadal's or Medvedev's, although that's a minor factor.

Karatsev has had the best draw so far. Diego being the high seed there really helped him. Diego has probably already booked his Golden Swing to keep those points up.

How did you know the great Thiemster would lose so badly.

:(
I voted for Dimi in 4, ... Coming to your question , Dimi is a strange case who performs well against the likes of Kyrgios, Rublev & Thiem most of times but then loses to Guys elder than him ( Nadal , Djokovic, Wawa) always.

Dumitrov also showed up to play in Serbia even though he was feeling ill with covid. Promptly hugged his opponent at net and infected him.

DDumitrov is not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

No, it was dumb, but he also openly regretted it and was adamant about the seriousness of the virus afterwards. Most of these guys live in highly privileged bubbles that revolve around their needs. At least he didn’t double down and question vaccines.

If there's anyone who has to be prosecuted for that disaster then the A1 i.e first in the list should Definitely be Djokovic... does the Guy feel sorry for it genuinely???

It was an incredibly stupid event to throw. But he seemed to be trying to do a good thing. To me, the vaccine comment/pov is totally insane and willfully ignorant. Hard for me to square that circle.

Agree to some extent that he was bringing back the tennis. But then
1) where was the social distancing among crowds???
2) were safety precautions and medical sops duly followed???
3) as you mentioned comments about vaccine is a sin too

At the time of the tournament, the Serbian government and medical authorities were telling everyone that it was completely under control.

At the time, Serbian soccer and other sports matches with huge crowds were being held at stadiiums. Night clubs were open. Life was pretty much normal in Serbia while a pandemic was raging in many other countries.

The Adria tournament was nothing out of the normal. Djoker trusted his government and followed the laws.
