Looking at the 3 times recently that Medvedev lost - Indian Wells when the wheels just suddenly fell off for him; running into a television camera and getting rattled; and losing to Zverev when he just plain didn't really show up in the ATP final a few months ago - occasionally that happens to Medvedev - he sometimes gets rattled and loses his concentration. We'll have to see what happens in that regard but I expect a hard fought match, 4 or 5 sets. Hope Rafa wins but it can truly go either way!

My one concern about Rafa is that I hope he fully shows up and I think he will - he really didn't show up in the 2019 final at AO. I expect him to be fully alert and to play his very best tennis tomorrow. Really hoping he wins!!!
Nothing he could do in that 2019 final.

Well I just think they wouldn't ask that kind of questions during a tennis match conference. It's off-topic and Meddy has the right not to answer even if they do ask that.

Agreed. Sports should be apolitical but I always find it interesting that people who latch onto the Russia is evil thing seem to have no problem with how western governments treat Julian Assange. Should American athletes face questions about him everywhere they go?

The hypocrisy is spectacular.

so what's nadal's game plan here? slice a ton to med forehand maybe? throw in s&v with med returning from the back wall? just hit the cover off the ball?

S&V
Attack short balls and approach the net
Slice more and attacks with forehand on first opportunity
Exploit Medvedev' deep returning position.

Nadal will defeat Medvedev in the 2022 Australian Open Final.
Medvedev has no chance of beating Nadal, that I can tell you, no chance.
In other words, Medvedev is scared of Nadal.
Well we know he won't lose to Medvedev, so as long as Medvedev makes the Final its safe for Nadal.
I've seen Med's matches, he's being bossed around and exposed by guys that are nowhere near as good as Nadal.
Med's doomed.
Medvedev looked shaky in that Kyrgios match, and he always looks shaky vs. Nadal, so I think Nadal will win the AO if he gets to play Medvedev in the Final.

I'm somehow more positive, confident in this final than what i would normally be. I wouldn't be surprise with any result other than losing easliy for Nadal. Don't like to make predictions on Nadal match(had something in my mind though). I know Med is the second best in HC now.

I think there is no real fav in this match and anything can happen. I hope Rafa can serve well and mix his game with slices and going S&N and being agressive etc. As i wrote before i think Med is not comfortable against Rafa but Rafa also declined so this can change. Med is sometimes being wall and covers the court well and not miss but also i saw sometimes he is missing way too much in a short time when i watch little about his matches

Bull in an easy 3. Maybe 4 if he has stomach issues.

The stomach issues was diarrhea caused by heat stroke, I heard.

I very much doubt that will be possible to get in an indoor match played at around 20 degrees celcius, but you never know :D

I feel while Meddy should be the favourite at this point, I’m going for Rafa to win in 5. I actually think this could be a long match but I think Nadal will find a way again like us open 2019.

I believe the matchup will help Rafa and he has more comfort in this matchup compared to other opponents. I think meddy will fight and play well but Rafa will just get over the line.

I see it going the same as us open 2019. Rafa races ahead to get first 2 sets. Then meddy gets next 2 and Rafa gets the 5th. Whatever happens I just hope for a good match.

I’d prefer Meddy to win as it helps Djoko in slam races battle and I like the Russian too. However, I have always respected Nadal and tennis is much better having him back in the sport competing for the biggest prizes. I hope to have all the big 3 back at some point this year.

Whatever happens I believe tennis wins. It’s a mouthwatering final to see whether Nadal can break the slam record and hold it alone or if meddy can prove he’s the new hard court king and easily the best of younger players. A great old guard vs new guard battle again.

What makes people to think Medvedev is an easy matchup for Nadal? Very young Medvedev in his first Slam final pushed Nadal to five. Sample size is too small this case to decide matchup advantage. Nadal leads h2h but apart from first match - their every match has been tightly contested. And Medvedev has improved a lot since. OTOH obviously Nadal has gone downhill physically (cant maintain his intensity for more than 2 sets) and has become mentally very fragile. He was choking against Shapo/Berrettini under pressure. Hard to see him not succumbing to pressure applied by Medvedev' consistent returning and solid ground game. I will be extremely surprised if Nadal pulls this off. HE will really need turn clock back by 5 years to win this. Federer did it many times - but I've yet to see it from Nadal.

Medvedev and a prime, hungry Djokovic are very different. This will be tight.

You don't need prime Djokovic to beat this Nadal. If this was 2019 Nadal - i would have placed bet on him. Nadal' two biggest strengths have been gone in last year or two - 1. Mental strength.
2. Endless stamina and ability to maintain high intensity for hours.

Noone in Rafa fan group think He's an easy match up ( except one or two trolls like that over confident guy ) but tell us why every single of Rafa hater think that Nadal has no chance against Medvedev ? I saw the voting and every single hater has voted Medvedev and read comments every single Rafa hater is so confident that Medvedev is gonna win ( that also include you ) Stop projecting please.

Medvedev is next ATG in making. Tomorrow's win will establish him as upcoming ATG. Becomes world #1. Wins two consecutive Slams beating Big 3 in Final denying them slam #21. Great story in making.

Nadal kicking topspin to backhand will be a liabilty v Med who can either drill dtl or sense Nadal cheat over and hit exteme angle to Rafa forehand. Med 2h backhand will not tire.

Med will move Nadal w unexpected direction ans shot type that Nadal will hit many topspin short middle.

Well, it seems you are not bright . Well haters have been predicting Rafa defeat ever since he made the semi , i didn't need to travel in time to see haters prediction since it's all came in this week . Now, stick to the question why do haters think Nadal has no chance against Medvedev ?

Not like it's relevant to tomorrow's match, but weren't you absolutely confident in Med beating Djokovic in AO last year?

You will get answer of your question tomorrow. Anyway you will not going to last here for long - so bye.

I think roof surely plays a factor here, Medvedev will be heavily favoured indoors with his flat strokes but even outdoors at night rafa will not get that much benefit as he gets under sun. Us 2019 match started at 4 pm and rafa was dominating by the time night came when match completely changed so remains to be seen how this one pans out. I think Medvedev in 5

Wow, once again Big Three fans and detractors dominate a thread on TTW.

I didn't think Nadal would make it this far, but he's clearly played smart tennis and was able to wear out opponents who are catching up to and passing him physically via his stronger mental game. I mean, watching him serve in that fifth set against Shapo said it all, no? And getting to play Berry when he clearly was fighting with nerves and/or his body helped - Berry looked much healthier in earlier rounds. Still think "topspin to the backhand" would have given him the victory against any version of Berry. That's the fault of Berry's side of the draw. Other players who should have exploited that weakness didn't.

Med's about as big a hill to climb as is left at this AO. He, too, defeated a younger challenger in a fifth set by keeping it together mentally long enough to surpass his opponent. I thought Felix had that match right up until he surrendered a break pretty meekly in the 5th set. Both guys have a shot. I won't be surprised if either wins. I will be surprised if this is a straight set match. Let's see what tomorrow brings. I don't have a horse in this race.

Rafa has a 3-1 record against Medvedev! Rafa lost to him in the ATP Final round robin format. I would throw that win out but is included in here!

Dude I was just pointing at the projection you made at Rafa fans when there are hardly any Rafa fans who think med is an easy match up but it's haters like you who think Nadal has no chance . stop projecting and learn to debate. As for what happen tomorrow it won't prove anything. If Rafa beats Medvedev it doesn't mean Med has match up issue with him, If Med wins in a tough 5 setter it won't prove that Rafa has no chances against him.

Rafa beat him in a atp final match(2019)he should have lost and Medvedev won he should have lost (2020) so h2h is fair but all that goes out of window as reality is Rivalry hs been close in the matches and in the only slam natch it was super tight since then Medvedev has made multiple slam final and won one so it's a herculean task but Rafa is the ultimate competitor so never underestimate him

It’s TTW, man. The only place where you can witness people who have watched tennis for 30+ years and still have zero to none read on the state of things on tour. Medvedev was heavily winning pre match poll against Djokovic at AO last year, while I believe Djokovic was winning USO poll. Just totally clueless and wrong every time. I also remember Medvedev winning the poll against Thiem at 2020 USO and me being like the only one who said Thiem in 2 before their match with Federer at Meme Finals 2019.

I hear the weather means this final will be outdoor and it’ll be cool as it’s later in the night. Is this true?

That would be ideal for Rafa

Well at least the lack of heat makes it easier to preserve some energy. Low bounce is not ideal for Rafa but it would be worse if he had more heat-related issues like in the quarterfinals, especially against a player like Medvedev. I’m more worried about endurance than bounce right now.

The Slam Race plot has taken so many turns since 2016...

After Djokovic has won RG in 2016, he was slightly favoured to end up first, barely crossing Federer’s 17 in the end.

After AO 2018 Federer was heavily favoured, with Nadal having a shot and Djokovic seemingly having no chance.

After USO 2019 Nadal became heavy favourite and Federer lost all chances.

Then after WB 2021 Djokovic looked like a lock, with at worst tied first place finish with Nadal at 21.

How quickly the tide turns.

the tide turned just because Novak made stupid decisions since Wimbeldon till now. he turned the tide himself.
