But nobody expected Nadal to last for 5+ hours. Everybody was doubtful of his fitness if match goes to 3+ hours. I think Medvedev too was thinking the same. That's why he was extending rallies in first three sets instead of going for winners. He dug his own grave making this physical contest. Federer too had to play a five setter against Nadal in 2017 but it was over in little over 3 hours.

He couldn’t. Nadal was getting everything back.Frankly his ground game was terrible compared to nadal. Nadal started getting more aggressive. Let’s hold the praises on Medvedev. The guy still has a lot to proof. Still feel he got very fortunate with novak having a really long match.

I watched the whole match even though I never posted here during it. Congrats to Nadal's real fans. I think Medvedev should've, could've won it, but that's sports, and that's Nadal being Nadal. I also think it's typical next gen clownery at different points, but I have to credit Nadal for not giving up, his #1 quality since forever ago.

I thought nadal was just better after the first set. Wished both guys had played better .Nadal could have been better on serve. I wasn’t impressed with medvedev after the first set.

Hey, bro . Nadal had no chance ? What happened ? if you know anything about Tennis then you would know Med was totally outclassed off ground except first set and was in match due to Rafa first serve missing . Learn to appreciate instead of being a blind hater.

Where is Gill Gross? He has made post-match videos for every single important match and none for this one?

Anybody know if Tennis Channel plans on showing the WHOLE match or an abridgement of it? Can't wait for 1 p.m. to get here!!!! (I missed the first 3 sets due to being fast asleep!)

This should prove that you should NEVER EVER count Rafa out....NEVER!!!

Vamos!!!!!!!!
This is what I have been saying to Gill Gross among others. Never ever count Rafa out!

The whole "Rafa is too old" arguments are stale and have been proven WRONG!

Nadal hit close to 21 winners in 4th set . He totally outclassed Medvedev. This match looked close due to Rafa serving poor.

This is the match that Medvedev was supposed to win. The result of the match shows that he does not have the mentality of a champion. Almost everything played in his favor, surface, the worst grand slam for his opponents, a 2-0 lead on sets. Still, he was unable to take advantage of it. Never before in the history of tennis has the young generation been as clueless against old veterans at grandslams as Zverev + Tsitsipas + Medvedev & others.

Nadal won, but Djokovic would beat him if he could play. Last year's Djoker absolutely would not allow him to return to the match. This is the worst possible outcome for the GOAT debate, as it will always raise doubts.
No Dkojovic is still GOAT as he is the only man to have held all four GS in a row which both Nadal and Fed failed to do.

Gill gross will do a Monday match analysis. It will come out tomorrow.

It’s gonna be interesting to see how Medvedev bounces back but clearly the old guard still rules tennis.

Tbh Medevev is still not close to Rafa As far as ground game is concerned. Rafa totally toyed with him off ground , moving in every corner , making him run. It was old vintage Rafa that would slay his opponent.

In winning the title, Nadal has:

1. Become the first male player ever to win 21 Slam singles titles putting him at the top of the Slams Leaderboard.
2. Joined Djokovic in becoming 1 of only 2 current players to win multiple titles at all 4 Slams.
3. Become 1 of only 4 players to win multiple titles at all 4 Slams in the history of tennis (along with Laver, Emerson, Djokovic).
4. Joined Federer in becoming 1 of only 2 current players to win at least 90 singles titles.

Congrats too, bro! I realized that I should not comment in the match thread; as I stopped doing so he started GOATing, lol. Intended to sleep after the 2nd set but I couldn't, then watched it till the end and passed out right after the MP...

Well, all Rafa fans ( ones who were gaslighting disappeared but i stayed thinking match is lost or it's too late )lol

Another notch on the Wikipedia bedpost for the illegitimate scourge by virtue of the continuation of unprecedentedly favourable circumstances, ineffective controls and absolutely shagged performance. The days of 'the good tennis' are a thing of the past, which is ironic given to whom the spoils befell on this microcosmically galling day. I expect neither the forest nor the trees to even register on the cognitive radars of those who share the 'whatever it takes' mentality of someone who continues to prosper in spite of the well known adage that posits the reverse. Salt was once a precious commodity, but we must surely soon reach the zenith of its involuntarily scalped inflation in light of the deplorable sporting reality we find ourselves begrudgingly trudging through. Remarkably, the sport's nadir appears ever evasive, perpetually slinking off into the future as the situation continues to submerge deeper into the depths of clockwork clutsterfuckery with the escalating catastrophic failure to produce anything of value.
Did Medvedev write this? He was a physics major.

The final we were all hoping to get. Rematch of their USO F from 2019.

There is something at stake for both of these guys: if Med wins he becomes the first player to win his first 2 slams back to back in the Open Era, while Nadal will finally win the DCGS.

Something's gotta give on Sunday, that's for sure. This is now or never for Nadal. He's not gonna get a better chance than this.

Who's your pick?

what an amazing match!!!! And the whole event was just so much fun. Barty winning. Nick and Tonsai. This final.

well done! Loved every minute of it!
