ATP H2H: 4-2 for Sascha
GS H2H: 2-1 for Sascha

A final that could have happened last year if Mad Lad hadn't turned the SF match against Sascha from a 0:2 deficit to sets. Their seventh match and first final against each other, Sascha leads in H2H, but Jannik has been a different player since autumn 2023, he dominated both HC majors last season and is now trying to defend his triumph in Australia. Sascha, on the other hand, wants to achieve the coveted maiden Grand Slam title. We'll see who wins on Sunday!

Hope it's as good as their Cincinnati match last year.

Jannik clearly struggling with nerves today, and it took its toll on his body. Will be interesting to see if that happens again in a bigger match against a better opponent.

I think Zverev has been pretty unimpressive his last two matches though, so it's not like he looks especially frightening.

I didn’t see any of Sinner/Shelton but from the score line, I wouldn’t have guessed Sinner struggled at all. Did he seem ill or anything?

Agree about Zverev, though I hope he can come through and take it.

No, he was cramping in the third set, and in his interview after the match he was talking about how nervous he was. He didn't serve particularly well either, another sign of nerves.

Sinner in 5. However, Zverev has another great chance. He is fresh and has a good H2H record so he has certainly put himself in there. Let’s hope for a great match.

If I'm not mistaken, the first two seeds have not faced each other in a slam final since the 2023 Wimbledon final.

All the Sinner-Zverevs missed between the end of 2023 and all of 2024, including the final here in Melbourne last year, will be compensated with this final.

Honestly, for the quality shown today in response by Sinner, if he were to raise the percentage of first serves on the court to acceptable levels, I don't see how the match can't end 3-0 or maximum 3-1 in favor of Sinner.

Paradoxically, Shelton, who is not a solid player like Zverev in the slightest, with his variations had more weapons to annoy Sinner in the baseline game.
Obviously Zverev will never concede all those unforced errors, but if he maintains the same passivity shown in the first set with Djokovic, then Sinner will abuse him 360 degrees.

So far, only the serve in the matchup has given the German an advantageous starting position, or rather the first serve, because Sinner's second serve is already more reliable.

If Z plays as much a passive pusher as he did vs Djokovic (not even able to capitalize on 0 1st serve games), Sinner will squeeze him into paste.

He needs to actually play to win against him, not to not lose

Australian Open 2025 FINAL - Defending Heavyweight AO Champion Jannick Sinner [1] vs Challenger Alexander Zverev [2]

Jannick Sinner lol
Dude atleast make sure to spell the name correctly (。•̀ᴗ-)✧

Anyways, back to the tennis.

Sinner will have the advantage from not having to adjust conditions. Zverev has played both his quarters and semis in the day, he will be the one who has to make the change.

Sinner once again destroyed his opponent. Here are a couple of key stats from that Sinner/Shelton match that made my head spin

Sinner’s 2nd serve points won%: 64
Shelton’s 1st serve points won%: 55

Receiving points won in the match:
Sinner 56
Shelton 27

This is another match where Sinner could have been allowed only one serve, yet won. This guy is unbelievable. He’s better than last year; that’s for sure.

2025 AO stats so far:

Sinner: Dominance Ratio of 1.59, 94.6% hold%, 31.5% break%, average rank of opponent faced=49.7
Zverev: Dominance Ratio of 1.50, 90.5% hold%, 29.3% break%, average rank of opponent faced=45.2

Sinner has been more dominant so far. And he really stepped it up a notch during those last 2 matches. Now granted, he had a bad first set vs Shelton and Schoolkate. But after that, he figured out his opponents and stepped up his game massively.

I'm taking Sinner in 4 here. Zverev might catch Sinner flat in the first set to steal it. But once Sinner gets rolling, it's lights out.

Good night, Irene!

The nostalgia fiends can bleat all they want, but Sinner at the moment is every bit as dominant on hard courts as some of the best versions of Federer and Djokovic were. Guy's a total wrecking ball. I'm really curious to see when he ends up losing in a hard court slam next, and who the crazy SOB is that manages to take him down. Because right now no one's even close.
