You guys really digging deep to find a good first round matchup lmao

Alcaraz draw is a cakewalk
Sinner has at least some resistance
Shelton losing to Humbert is only thing exciting.

Get your wings ready :D great draw

Those of us who follow US College tennis will recognize Fery as a highly touted junior who played at Stanford. He was unfortunate to have numerous injuries that limited his playing time while in college, so hopefully he can stay healthy.

Remember watching some of his college matches on YouTube. He’s very solid, a Ferrer, grinder type player.

Fons is essentially a worse version of what Sinner used to be. Might let a few big forehands fly but the consistency isn’t there.
Right now, the boy is still a boy. Sinner will be poised and should handle him in straights.

He may not move like sinner or alcaraz (who does) but definitely not stiff in this department. And his tennis IQ and mental look quite good after a few interviews and how he coached Cerundelo up at laver cup.
Fonseca still has a high ceiling. Whether he takes the next step to progress or not is on him.
Can’t comment on his life long back injury bc he didn’t get into detail. Probably didn’t care to play the 250’s as a precaution considering he has two wins to defend in Melbourne. Something to be aware of though going forward if he continues to pull out of events bc of it.

Pity, he was one of the more intriguing young players.

Four teenagers left in the main draw: Fonseca, Jodar, Budkov Kjaer and Sakamoto.

Jodar and Sakamoto will duke it out in the first round.
I will admit haven’t watching much of Jodar and Blockx until I saw them at next gen.
Blockx is all gas from the baseline/attacking style. I was hoping he’d take next steps to main draw.

Bassevraddy came through his Qualifying draw it seems. Good for him.

I'm more intrigued about Jodar who in addition to being my countryman, was the only player to beat Tien in the NextGen finals.

I've yet to watch a full match, but he seems to play standard big guy tennis, which is not particularly common among early bloomers.

He's been consistently creamed on the second serve in every match so far, though, so he may have a hard time holding serve against top 50 players.

Brooksby will take out Bublik in R1. :D
Would be funny, but Brooksby is all out of sorts for a while now. I thought he was getting back to where he was last year but he had a spade of very bad losses. Baez killed him, but then again, Baez has played extremely well to start the year and seems to be getting back to his best form. He should be dangerous on clay.
Calm down. Hypeseca needs to get out of R1 first. He’s 0-1 verse Spizzirri.
I know this is tongue in cheeks mostly, but Fonseca hasn’t looked trustworthy against anyone. Eliot will come in and grind and if Fo sees is making errors as per usual…

I think Sinner’s and Alcaraz’s draws are basically a wash, with the slight exception of Fonseca being a tougher potential opponent than anyone Carlos has in the first three rounds. But he was just talking about his back issues, so we’ll see where he’s even at physically.

Not to be rude but didn’t brooksby climb all the way back into the top 60 or 70 from like 400?

Projected third rounds matches: Sinner-Fonseca, Musetti-Tsitsipas, Fritz-Lehecka, FAA-Tien.
Wait, they still haven't made an official rule preventing one-handed backhand players from meeting one another in the early rounds?

WTF ATP? Get on it! This is a travesty!

Nicolai Budkov Kjær (#135) has qualified, and Norway has two players in the main draw of a slam for the first time (y)
Happy for you guys. Love that, "Home for Christmas" show in Netflix.

I really like both Bublik and Brooksby, so it's a shame one of them will be out early.

It's fun to watch both of them be a little strange and raise some eyebrows.

Alexander Blockx has a last name that sounds like a crypto company.

Spiritually bankrupt tournament. Anyone who actually tries to get Taylor Swift to attend is a walking cadaver. I wonder how much he paid Sinner and Alcaraz to pretend they give a rat's about the one-shot rubbish.

Shelton looking slow and out of shape in Auckland. Doesn’t look like he worked in improving his game at all during the offseason. I thought he used to be able to hit a flat serve, but he’s just spinning everything. It’s too predictable. Baez just sent him packing as if he were a journeyman clay dog. If I were a fan, I’d be worried about Big Ben in Australia. He’s got a lot of points to defend too. (SF last year)

I feel like we may have already seen the best of some young players, and he’s at the top of the list

He has had to dial back the serve a bit to save his arm
