Genuinely don’t understand how anyone could possibly like him, with his bully persona, his disgusting on court antics, and most importantly the crime against tennis that is his game. He actively makes every match he plays much worse.

I seriously can’t see eye to eye with a Medvedev fan. There is zero positive in him. It is like your favourite plant being kudzu. I cannot wrap my head around him having fans.
I said simmer down bud.

Finally you seeing the light, Z is way more likeable than Med and has a better game.

Ok.
I like him. Kind of wins big matches by sheer will to win and good problem solving. He might be limited in his game - but has this never say die attitude which is a welcome change that 99% of tour misses. No point liking people who choke while being up or show weaknesses when facing adversity like most of the tour.

Very rare players come up with good in pressure points as freq as Medvedev. Gotta appreciate that bit

Medvedev is only part octopus, he's also part boa constrictor squeezing the life out of his opponent.
I was just scoreboard watching but wasn't surprised in the least that not only Medvedev came back from 2 sets down but that Zverev blew it. This makes me frustrated at Carlos for not taking advantage because Zverev was ready and willing to donate that match to him and Carlos blew it.

I could see why somebody wouldn't like his tennis but he has a pretty engaging personality. I don't know it's just a matter of preference really, there's no right or wrong.

LOL, if that was the case, he won't lose the AO 2022 final, which I consider to be the worst loss from 2-0 lead in sets in a Grand Slam finals in the Open era.
worse than 2020 us open worse than 2005 french open worse than 1999 french open wrose than 1984 french open? it is worse than 2021 french open but boy you are biased

I don’t mean this in a trolly way, I too would like Sinner to win it, but I first read your post and then I saw your name… then I had to chuckle a bit.

I am a Z fan and this was probably his only chance to finally win a slam and he lost against this Medvedev? I am mad lol

Yes it is and do you know why? Because Medvedev lost the AO 2022 final, although he already had the experience of achieving a GS triumph and the final was played on his best surface. Zverev, Coria, Tsitsipas paid for inexperience with GS finals and McEnroe lost RG 1984 on clay, which was clearly his worst surface.

What i am saying is that there is a lot more to what decides the outcome of the match than mental fortitude. Those finals have more tight sets than this one. This one, you should blame how medvedev ran out of gas against a much older opponent. I did not think med had a chance once he got tired. Did rafa lose to fognini and tsitsipas because of his lack of mental toughness? not necessarily. Also zverev's and coria's losses are almost purely mental, they had service yips

It will be a Grand Slam champion (albeit not the one we were all expecting) versus a 1st time Slam finalist on Sunday. Advantage there to Medvedev but Sinner seems primed and ready to finally join the Slam Winners Club.

I also dislike medvedev and I can’t understand how he is one of the most popular player on another famous forum.

They love him because of his „honest interviews“ and „octopus style”.
But I see an Ugly style, bad outbursts, some massive chokes, unfair gamesmanship…

Well he is not my favourite by any stretch of the imagination but I admire his resilience and tenacity, his impressive defensive skills, and his ability to force errors from his opponents.
He is very intelligent and has a dry sense of humour and a sharp wit while he says what he thinks and I like that in a person. His interviews are frequently entertaining and funny. On court his sarcasm often amuses me and I don’t find his on court antics anywhere near as annoying as you do nor do I see it as bullying. He has a great friend in Rublev who is one of the nicest guys on tour and I find it hard to imagine Andrey being that close to someone as obnoxious as you see him.

What I find awkward is that Rublev and Med are clearly best friends, but Zverev also claims that Rublev is his best friend.

Even though it's a good matchup, I was never going to stay up for this. Man, just looking at the score now at work. The Legend of Med grows. Lol. Can someone briefly go through the match arc. What was the break situation in the third and fourth sets - was Zverev up or down breaks before losing those tiebreaks? The tiebreaks looked pretty efficient by Med. Were there crazy errors by Zverev on any points. Thanks.

Again, I can’t stress enough how that was just a funny observation. I am totally on board with loving the game but still having someone to root for and/ or against.

Only watched first two sets and re-watched the tiebreaks.
First two sets zverev was clearly better, medvedev was super passive and served badly. But you could already feel zverev would not make it in the big moments.
Third set tie break - I think badly played by zverev after 4-3.
Fourth set tie break - zverev was up 5-4 if I remember correctly and serving but got unlucky and medvedev was clutch.

As I said before the match, I firmly believe in matchups. There is a reason why Zverev is a bad matchup for Alcaraz, and Medvedev a bad matchup for Zverev. I dislike Medvedev as much as anyone here, but Zverev going up 2-0 was too good to be true. Somehow I suspected Medvedev will end up grinding him down. The scenario was already predetermined by their history.

Snowflakes? Disturbing you've said that even if he's found guilty of bashing his ex girlfriend the ATP won't ban him.

Yikes, do you value women than little? Utterly sick.

Yes I won't ban him if I was in ATP.

What he does to women or men is his problem, the woman's problem and the judiciary's. I have no role in taking sides. There are bigger matters to worry about than all this nonsense.

I am not a person to poke my nose like a snowflake..If something affects me directly or even indirectly then I will react....not on strangers whose job is to entertain me.

Stop crying, you won with Sinner today

Rooted for Zverev in this match even though I like Medvedev more

The match should have never gone to a fifth in the first place, Zverev should have closed it in the 4th set TB

His personal problems apart, I would really like to Zverev win a slam someday

Wow, even after such a victory there is hate against Medvedev. How can you not love him after a match like that? It's incomprehensible. So you're not a tennis fan. Medvedev is a great champion. How often have you seen a comeback like this in a slam semis from a non Big 3 player? And what’s most amazing is that this is his 3rd five-setter here. He just became a different player after 2nd set. He began to receive closer to the baseline and became more aggressive. He definitely needs to play like this more often.

While I understand 100% the frustration with Medvedev's grating persona and on-court hissy fits (can't really address the intel you mentioned earlier because that frankly has too much 'nah, trust me bro' energy for my taste) his game, horrifically ugly as it is, asks very difficult questions of his opponents. If their more complete, aesthetically pleasing playstyles fail to measure up at crunch time, that's a them problem.

EDIT: Not at all surprised by this result. After watching Zverev go two sets and a break up on Thiem in the USO final with absolutely dominating tennis and then lose the way he did, I'm not gonna believe he can do it until he does. Put up or shut up.

Sinner choked today in 3rd set as well, but he had the power to try again in set 4. Sascha was empty, scared and his diabetes is a factor as well.

ATP is not filled with snowflakes. Don't worry, nobody will ban him even if he is guilty. Judiciary will decide what to do and only their ban stands (if that happens).
A great way of saying that you don't consider hitting your significant other that big of a deal.

So so so glad Zverev lost! I do like Medvedev a lot. Genuinely love watching him play and his awkward strokes. Its fun and different compared to watching cookie cutter tennis all the time. Plus like a previous commentor said, if he wins with it and the players with the "more aesthetically pleasing" game can't win, tough. Hope he can be fresh for a good match against Sinner

Just finished watching the replay of this one. What a comeback from Medvedev! He’s been scary with his back against the wall – first in the Hurkacz match, the way he locked down his serve in the fifth, and then again here, greatly upping his level after going down two sets to love. Got broken five times in those first two sets and then didn’t face a single break point the rest of the match. Looked better and better as the match wore on – not at all like a guy who’s spent almost 21 hours on court. Def Italy can’t count him out of the final.

Daniil, the magician it seems. He seems to be relishing these roller-coaster encounters. If there is a need to illustrate how to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, this match would be a good example. He said post-match interview that he feels proud of his achievements in this tournament, and he should be. Well done to him for getting through. Will his legs / game stand up to Jannik in the final? I'd say 'no', but without conviction because Daniil could once again transform into Houdini, and confound us all.

Poor Sasha. He seemed primed for the win, but it was not meant to be, after all. It must be tough to lose from a winnable position in such an important match. Tough stuff.

Hmmm..... I was thinking exactly the same thing. Incredible! I also thought if Sinner wins, he will have beaten two no.1 players.
