Average of 4.0 rounds won per slam = #1 ???

With all due respect to Alcaraz, he averaged a QF result in slams in 2022.

Senior Nadal averaged 5.5 rounds won per slam (between semi and final).

Rafa also won 2 slams to Carlitos’ 1.

The points system is what it is, but the best performer in slams over the course of the year should probably be considered the best active player.

Note to Djok fans: I used the term ‘active’ player above because Djoker was inactive for half of the slam season. Djoker also averaged 5.5 rounds won per slam that he participated in.

In fact, Alcaraz is only in the middle of the pack of Top 10 players in rounds won per slam in 2022.

No fewer than 7 players achieved 4.0 rounds won per slam this year.

Nadal: 5.5
Djokovic: 5.5
Berrettini: 4.5
Ruud: 4.3
Medvedev: 4.0
Zverev: 4.0
Alcaraz: 4.0
Sinner: 3.7
Rublev: 3.3
Kyrgios: 3.3
Norrie: 2.5
Tsitsipas: 2.5

I don’t like to award asterisks. If Carlos performs well in slams in 2023 and proves he’s the man, I’m willing to drop the asterisk.

It doesn't work this way, sir.
And ye#1 has been a joke since ccp-19 pandemic anyways, Nadal should be #1 but....
I understand the way it works.

But I humbly submit that ranking players by their slam performance gives a better measure of who the best players are in a given year, especially when older players might skip smaller events.

ATP will never agree with that concept as it diminishes the stature of their tournaments (and rightfully so, because just 8 weeks of tennis isn't capable in itself for the sport to survive and flourish)

The ATP has many problems. This one one of them.

I don't think ranking points are any problematic, imo the real problem is scheduling of tournaments at times, and that's an issue with both ATP & ITF.
We have 3 slams in a matter of 3 months which is highly dense, plus there are back to back masters like IW-Miami, Madrid-Rome & Canada-Cincinati etc
Improvements are needed.

What's with all the Rafan insecurity surrounding Carlos these days?

All because he's a teen slam winner and from Spain? Or that he's popular with other fanbases?
