Azarenka in big trouble!

Looks like she is on drugs or something. I find it hard that the heat is getting to her after 3 games.

She looks lost out there. Completely whiffed on a serve, then sent the next two weakly right into the net.

She managed to get that last game, but she really does look totally out of it.

She just buckled after missing a backhand and sunk to the court. She looked like she was about to either cry or hurl for a couple games before that. I didn't see the whole thing but it looked like she was reaching for her stomach while on the ground. I looked up again and she was heading out in a wheelchair. Dulko was chuckling in response to something someone said - probably "what the hell was that?". She wasn't trying to be mean, it's just the whole thing was a ridiculous looking spectacle.

Good riddance. Enough ballbashers remain in the draw.

uh yeah, because watching pushers in the WTA is so much more entertaining... I mean geez, the last thing we need is to watch a woman that hits the ball with some pace.

It's more than just the black dress Cindy. I play in full black in extreme heat all the time and I dont collapse. Especially not after 6 games in the first set.

And she's an athlete.

I am impressed by the amount of compassion in this thread.

If Gulbis was being honest and he was affected by a virus yesterday, perhaps Azarenka picked up that same germ? Hopefully we will hear more later today.

To me it seems Gulbis was pulling the injury ecuse card - what's happening with Azarenka seems way more serious to me.

Considering that Azarenka has been often seen watching Ernie boy's matches near the family, maybe it's more plausible then one would think.

Really ? I never noticed that, but then again I dont really watch Gulbis play either.

If true, that is interesting to say the least.

Not nice to see someone collapse like that, its happened to her in the hear before at the Aussie Open facing Serena. Was thinking as well wearing black in such heat.

It's hard to be sympathetic. Wearing a black outfit when you *know* it will be scorching hot does not guarantee you will be affected by the heat. It does make it more likely.

We're not talking about some league match. This is the US Open, and this could have been her year with Serena out. After what happened in Australia, you would think Azarenka would be the last person to show up in all black.

I hope she gets well soon.

She wore black because that's the only outfit Nike made for her (or actually Serena). Besides, what were the chances that she'll play at night?

Undeniable that's the best music one could have chosen for that video.

I really think it's just the heat though. Not some excuse. Poor girl; she was hyped so much, only to faint. She will have a hard time recovering from that one!

It's always scary when you see an athlete collapse like that. I hope it is not anything serious and wish her a speedy recovery.

They just mentioned food poisoning was a factor.

Garber at ESPN noted that Azarenka may have been sick or disoriented during the pre-match warmups, so that may make some sense.

She lives and trains in Scottsdale; one would think she'd be reasonably accustomed to the heat.

Oh man. The second worst thing about that photo is that she is wearing not one, but two of those idiot magic bracelets that so many of the players have decided to **** their money away on lately. I need to ignore my own sense of integrity and come up with one of these silly gimmicks to make myself rich.

Those bracelets lose their powers in high heat conditions

Hey now, there's a great endorsement photo for the magic bracelets. Maybe the hologram wasn't properly tuned to her inner vibrations.

Why is she living deep in the middle of Sonoran desert, especially since she comes from a place literally called (snow?)White Russia?

It was indeed hot but then the heat was already at this level since yesterday (Tuesday)

And dozens of matches have taken place during these last two days without anybody being bothered by the heat (or perhaps it did bother others but unlike Azarenka they took the right measures and preparations to deal with it
.

I don't think food poisoning or anything like that. It looked like heat stroke to me. Isn't heat stroke when you stop sweating? I re-watched the Tennis Channel coverage, and she wasn't sweating at all.

I played this morning. Doubles. Starting at 9:30. It was so, so hot. I was feeling it in my legs and sweating buckets. If I had a change of clothes, I would have changed right there on the court in front of God and everyone.

Cindy -- who considered wearing her snazzy black Tail ruffle dress today and thought better of it because she is not nuts

She just wore what Nike provided for her. Should blame Nike for giving her a night outfit (designed for Serena) instead of designing her a day outfit. We all knew she wouldn't be playing at night anyways.
