Azarenka to return for a grass tournament before playing Wimbledon

Fantastic news.

Azarenka has been out of action since the French Open last year with her pregnancy. She gave birth to a gorgeous baby in December and had planned to return to tour in August in Stanford but she's aiming to be back sooner. That's some serious determination! Playing a tournament just 6 months after giving birth. Impressive.

It'd be great if people can refrain from insulting the WTA tour and saying who cares.. Very gutsy to return to tour after giving birth. What strength.

Do players coming back after pregnancy/child birth return with a protected ranking? Anyone know?
 
I wonder how she'll do?
I've always found her one-dimensional. She's good at what she does but limited outside of her comfort zone.
However, where she does differ to most of the tour, is she's a fighter. Stronger mentally than most.
Hard to warm to.
 
Going to be interesting to finally have another example of a top player returning after pregnancy after Clijsters. Let's see how this one goes!

Finally, a champion's mentality on the WTA who can win more than three matches in a row or who can win multiple big titles.

I don't think her intent is to win Wimbledon but she's probably trying to get match wins and confidence back in time for the USO where she will be a favorite if she can get herself back into the swing of things. I mean this WTA field is a joke. She's probably coming back earlier because she sees what a joke it is with all of these head cases. A player like Azarenka if she stays healthy could clean up under these circumstances.
 
i dont really like azarenka but this is good news for tennis, the wta needs some names now and with maria coming up as well it could be very interesting to see who out of those two can go further, even if something like meeting at a second round or something

I've never especially liked Azarenka - a bad sport - but, yes the WTA needs her,
I only question whether her body will hold up - it rarely does.
 
I don't especially like her but the WTA sorely needs her back at her best. Her best was a very very long time ago though given the injuries she's had but maybe she really can do a Kim?
 
Mallorca Open confirm that Azarenka will play their tournament on the 19th June. Guessing that will be her first tournament back.

Serena fans hoping like hell Azarenka does well upon her return. I believe she gave birth a scant six months ago
