I get it now, ESPN is actually two sets behind. Maybe one hour tape delay.

This is a sad day for tennis, not considering Cilic´s win today.

I wouldn't call it sad but just disappointing how everything was predictable today.. Tipsa losing to Cilic was forgone conclusion considering his record and I was right with my prediction at the start of a thread that Barkova will win in 3.. oh well..

Kvitova is very sweet and shy and I adore her, well done, what a sensational season for her.

Tough luck again to Vika, the good thing for her is she will only improve and I predict she will at least get to a slam final in 2012.

The crowd has made the championships this year, hopefully they stay in Instanbul for the forseeable.

Damn I would´ve been fine if Tipsarevic won today.
I really started to like this guy more and more.
He finally showed some hard work and determination after the last few sloppy years panned with retirements on the Tour.
And immediately it paid off with almost 3 consecutive tournament wins.

But I´m happy for Cilic, since he´s my favorite along with Del Potro.

As for Kvitova, I like her smooth game but for me she´s just a person you can only dislike.

^^ Dislike Kvitova? Why? Sure, she's not got a flashy personaity but she's not plastic either.

If it's her odd grunt, she only does it after she's won a point and not after UEs etc.

Then you have obviously not seen the match.
This and the fact that she has kinda zero personality.

I watched the match. AFAICR, she didn't grunt to distraction. She only did it after she won points as a means to encourage herself.

I would be happy if all grunting was done away with, but at least Kitty doesn't shriek/wail/howl with every swing.

    All IMVHO of course..

yes the crowd ... i really wonder why the crowd was there. the first time i heard the wta final will be in istanbul i just asked me why? turkey doesnt play/watch tennis (if you compare them with most other europe countries). further they are still like the women should be at home in the kitchen and should not be allowed to do anything. im really asking me why there was such a crowd - did they sell the tickets for 1 dollar each or was it planned/manipulated by the state itself. i simply cant imagine that there is such an excitment for women tennis in turkey

All I have to say to this is, while you can probably pay people to go to the tournament you can't pay for honest excitement and reactions during play. Why were they there? Not sure either but they seemed to enjoy themselves.

I don't mind the "barking", actually I find it cute. But she's actually saying a word, not just making random noise, according to the commentators.

I thought this was a great match between two great young players, will be interesting to see if this becomes a major rivalry in the future.

It seems to me that a few years ago Azarenka played a lot more aggressively and went for winners more. During her matches with Serena at the AO it was like Serena was getting blown off the court, dare I say it, Kvitova style. I realize that consistent play has vaulted her to a higher position in the rankings but I wonder if she now needs to find a happy medium between consistency and aggression. Or maybe it is finding a happy medium between disinterested retriever and overemotional ball basher. Watching a few of her matches this week she seemed to force a lot of errors but there were times when she looked more like a more powerful Wozniacki than a player out to control her own destiny.

Turkish people make by far the majority of all foreigners in my country and yes, they are definately like "women should be in the kitchen".

Azarenka generally plays quite agressively. She looks more defensive against Kvitova since Kvitova is a bigger hitter than she is, and she cant control the majority of the points like she can vs most opponents.

Kvitova never plays matches where she hits fewer winners than her opponents. Even last year at Wimbledon a greenie Kvitova had more winners than Serena on grass, so that pretty much sums it up.

This is so true, I'm thinking it would be tough to find a player that would out-power Kvitova. I have watched a few of Azarenka's matches lately, and it just occurred to me that maybe what I am noticing is that she uses the shots she is most comfortable with more often, and relying on her depth and power to create opportunities to hit a short ball, instead of trying to create magic winners from thin air.
