Babolat Aero Pro Drive 2015 - Coming Early?

Ric

All the tennis stores online and shops are offering a discount on the Aero pro drive. Talking to one of the shops, I was told that it is coming out early in August this year.

Does anyone have any info about or what it looks like and what the changes are?

Thanks!

Do you know what is different about the new one besides the cosmetics. More spin? More power? any info on the specs?

Have you used it? We still don;t know the specs. You should publish them if you do.

Sorry I don't know more than what I shared on my site.
I don't expect much to change. This racket is already ahead of time.
We will see what they changed at the US Open I guess ;)

Well they took out the cortex and reportedly lowered the flex. If that is the case than the frame should in theory get a bump up in SW to give back some power.

I've seen the new Aero Pro coming out this fall and it's not the racket that's shown on your site.

Any detailed info will just get deleted but as far as looks, it reminds me of the first APD with cortex just flashier and as far as other major changes just think of the Pure Drive 2015.

Not sure if it's accurate, but there is a dutch website that posted the alleged specs on June 27

The new Babolat racket comes out in September. String pattern: 16x19. Unstrung weight: 10.6 ounces. The grommets are supposedly spread further apart to create a more open pattern to generate even more spin. Also the grommets are egg-shaped instead of round. This is said to help promote more string movement to produce spin

So because it's arriving early they did not have time to glue the cortex on?

More seriously, is the cortex absent or simply not visible?

And is this an attempt to up the ante on spin effect technology?

Same beam width, but a whole new narrower or less hollow profile. Interessant!

And a large and squarer string pattern. Not so interesting!

babolat has already sent black prototypes to testers and people who are cooperating with around the world in order to collect info before final adjustments.

^^ I appreciate that they cleaned it up by limiting it to 2 colors, and Babolat does balanced assymetry (of its graphics) better than most. And be grateful they didn't steal Optispot!

I am really looking forward to the Tour. I used a PDR for a few months and loved some of the shots I was hitting but also struggled with consistency. Last year I used an APD and loved the spin and consistency. I won all of my 4.0 matches and got bumped to 4.5. However, I couldnt really flatten the ball out and got pushed around by big hitters at 4.5. I am hoping that the Pure Aero Tour bridges the gap between the Pure Drive Tour and the APD.

Nostra, are you a female as your profile pic shows? Wasn't sure since that's an interesting name for a woman...

Anyone who plays the tour, would love to get an estimate on RA and SW.

The next question will be how the new drill pattern plays. I really like open drill patterns (PS95 is a nice example), as long as they are not too out of control. For example I'm thinking this frame may play a lot like a Head Speed MP, which was awesome, but it took some serious lead tape to get it the way I wanted.

Thinner profile beam and more open and uniform openings across the string bed .. similar to a Head Instinct.. with a new aero throat..and oval grommets This thing could be truly sick...Just hope Babolat keeps the stiffness at a respectable level. Nothing over 70 I hope...

Stiffness (RA) on all frames of the new Pure Aero series is 72. And indeed there will be a + version. Thanks Jurgen! I posted the specs on the Dutch site;)

If only they made the flex around 65-67 that would be great. If only they made a 16*20 pattern, the APD pattern is too open as it is. If only the new PJ was like the original APD instead of fugly yellow/black again. If only.............

Anyone looking for something like am Aero with this flex really needs to give the Instinct xt a test drive. I love the aero, but I made the switch in February and don't regret it.

Owned the graphene instinct and didnt mind it, just a bit stiff. Do you lead it up at all?

Thinner beam, 16/20, slightly lower in stiffness... that would be an AeroStorm, not an APD.
Is that strung or unstrung stiffness?
Generally Babolat gives the RA unstrung and ungripped. That would be just under 70, like the current ones.

Yes but disappointing. The rumor was the tour would be very similar to Rafa's new frame, and that appears to not be the case.

... unless something goes 'awry' during production to up the stiffness???
Yeah but that would be in the realm of manufacturer tolerances, which is a legitimate but different discussion.

We've got no clue what specs Nadal's "new" frames had anyway.

The original APD averaged 67, according to TW, and one of Nadal's own frames was measured at 65.

The fact is that I don't they like the idea of confusing the line with a slightly softer version, unfortunately.
