Babolat PHT vs RPM

Hello,
I am a varsity tennis player who uses a Babolat pure drive gt with 16g Pro Hurricane tour strings strung at 16 lbs. I am considering Hybriding the PHT and RPM. (PHT for power and RPM for spin and control). Is this a good idea and which one should i get at the mains and which one should i get at the crosses?

Do you really strung it at 16 lbs? Besides that if you want spin and control it is usually good to have the spin string in the main. I hear that RPM is one of the spinnier string out there so I would put that in the main. If you really want power, then you can put a good multifilament in the cross. Babolat Excel Premium is my favorite but there is a power version of it that should give you more power.

My recommendation still holds. RPM in the mains will give you the spin and control and the Excel will give you the power and comfort.

RPM Blast is the most disappointing string I've used. Durability is very poor, it drops significant tension within a couple of hits and then it's almost unplayable. Go PHT all the way if u have to use Bab.

Ya I had to cut it out after 1 set because the tension loss was absurd. Now I know why Nadal switches his racquet every set.

Hmm, very strange!

I have never used RPM Blast in the past (...) and got 1 set to try out in my APDGT´s. I strung them at 51 lbs and at the same time i strung Kirschbaum Pro Line II and Kirschbaum Super Smash with same tension. I have used the RPM string about 5 hours now and i dont notice any major dip in tension. The Pro Line II and Super Smash have lost their tension more then the Blast have, even if i have played much more with the blast.

Actually, the RPM Blast string surprised me very much when i tried it. After reading so many bad reviews i thought this string should loose tension very quick, like Tecnifibre Black Code, but the tension-stability is really really good! I will get a set of 1,25 mm RPM tomorrow and string it and then measure the DT-value and see how it is after a couple of hours of tennis

I would have to agree. Based on the 2011 stringers guild there is not much of a difference in tension loss and RPM is slightly better and also slightly stiffer.

Company String Material Gauge Stiffness (lbs/in.) Tension loss (lbs)
Babolat Pro Hurricane Tour 17 Polyester 1.25 256 17.58
Babolat RPM Blast 17 Polyester 1.26 273 17.13

PRM Blast for friction.

PRM Blast is the best string for friction. That makes it the best string to put as crossstring to "achieve" spin (main string glides better on it). For main string try Alu Power Rough. That combo i superb. Gut & RPM Blast great to. Probably PHT & RPM Blast to. :)

Haven't heard much of people hybriding two similar poly strings. I have played with pro hurricane tour mains with xcel crosses, played nice. Mains supposedly contribute more to the feel of the stringbed. You could try PHT mains, multi cross in one racquet then try RPM mains and multi cross (or gut) in another racquet.
