Babolat Pure Control + Swirly (Grommets)

I found this racquet at a garage sale and it needs some love, Babolat pure control+ swirly 16X20 97 sq in. Was wondering if anyone has any experience replacing the grommets on this. I noticed most of the newer models that have a similar mold are 98 sq in. will those grommets still fit? Wanted to make sure I order the correct ones. Thanks!

Yeah, its the same mold as the Pure Control 2003 Team/Pure Storm Tour/2014 Pure Control. Not sure why they called it a 97 back then.

I used the 'Swirly' for years & replaced the grommets multiple times. No issues w/ them circa 2008.

And just to be clear, you're talking about this frame, correct?

Yup, same one. I remember using one about a decade ago when I was at my best. I guess I have some hopes that this can help me get back to that level haha. Did you upgrade to a newer model or switch frames?

Switched frames.

The funny thing is, when I started using the Swirly, it had already been discontinued. I came across 3 new ones ~ 2003 and used them until around 2008.

For some reason I never gelled w/ the newer models (the Storm line). They never felt as solid as the Swirly. I ended up w/ the Fischer M-Comp 95, then the M-Pro No 1, and now the Pacific X Force Pro, which is essentially the M-Pro No 1.

Cool, I haven't got to try any Fischer or Pacific frames yet. Have been using a APD+ GT since I started playing again last fall after a long absence. I enjoy serving with it, but my strokes are nowhere as crisp as they once were. Thanks for the help!

Hey Mclovin, can you do a quick comparison between the swirly and the x-force pro? Seems like they may be similar. I am a long time swirly user, I tried the pacific, but gave up on it to soon. Thanks.

It's been over 6 years since I hit w/ the Swirly, so a true comparison might not be accurate. From what I remember:
1. Both have real nice plow through.
2. Neither is particularly nimble at the net, but the Pacific has better feel.
3. The Pacific is lower powered.
4. Spin *might* be better w/ the Pacific, but that is hard to say as I strung the Swirly w/ 19g Kevlar mains, gut crosses. Pacifics are gut mains, poly crosses.
5. Pacific has the 'Fischer feel', the Swirly is a tank.
Essentially, it comes down to #5: the Pacifics feel like a Fischer. If you don't like that 'feel', then you probably won't come to like the X Force Pro. There's definitely more flex w/ the Pacific (especially w/ the BX2 line), while the Swirly was simply a beast.

Hey, sorry to bring back an old thread guys, but I just acquired 2x babolat pure control team standards from a buddy. The bumperguard is worn and needs replacement. So is it the pure storm standard or pure storm tour bumperguard that will fit this racquet? Also will the new 2014 pure control or pure control tour series bumperguards work as well? Thanks!

Bump. I too purchased a Babolat Pure Control TEAM and am trying to replace its grommets/headguard.
