Babolat Pure Drive 2015 Review

As promised, here is my review of the 2015 Babolat Pure Drive model.

As I stated in a previous thread, when I first got a chance to see the frame, I absolutely loved the paintjob. Definitely one of the nicer paint schemes that came out this year. Great colors, with the darker black matt inside the yolk and head of the frame really brings out the lighter colors.

The new string pattern in my opinion is the real high-light of the frame, as it opens up this frame to a new market. Those who turned away from the Pure Drive line because of its "harsh" feel will find a more plush and softer feel when hitting the center of the string bed. The new string pattern, which is much tighter at the 12 o'clock position, results in a more open pattern between the 3 & 9 o'clock, which of course then provides a more forgiving and comfortable hitting area. The frame still provides all the attributes of previous generations including a fairly easy to swing frame with plenty of power, spin, and stability. It still remains fairly stiff, and still feels like you are hittin a "pure drive", but with a bit more comfort.

For a 300 gram frame, the Pure Drive has always had plenty of plow, and this version is no different. Hard hit incoming shots are met with a stable frame that returns the favor with a crisp response with plenty of punch, and very little twisting. Racquet gets thru the strike zone easily, and is extremely easy to handle throughout a hitting session. Frame performed very well on groundies, volleys, and serves. Access to spin came easily as did being able to drive thru and flatten out shots for put-aways. All in all, a great addition to the classic Pure Drive line.

As always, go out and take it for a demo to make up your own minds. Thanks, and let me know if you have any questions.

I bought one and hated it. It was weird because I really liked the older version. Maybe I shouldnt of put in a full bed of multi. I even leaded it to, didnt work for me, so went back to the Blades.

Thank you for a great review.
I am not playing with PD so far, but I wish to try once. Question regarding grip size of Babolat i.e. I own Prince TT95 and White LS in grip size L4, do you think Babolat PD 2015 L4 is comparable with Prince L4 or is better to take L3 (some people say Babolat grip sizes a slightly bigger !?) ?
Thank you beforehand for your reply.

I've never been a modern racquet player, but long story short started maxing out power up to 98, tried Aero, but Pure Drive was awesome, you just kill it and the ball lands in, incredible. Their is a BIG DIFFERENCE between the old one and the new, the new one, it's like this, you hit the ball exactly right, low in the power zone, it feels solid, comfortable, with this one when you hit it in the regular spot you get that feel, it's a huge deal. Hate the paint job, aside from that I think probably most underrated racquet at this time.

I think the 2015 paint is worlds better than the 2012 paint. I was very impressed by the pure drive. especially impressed how comfortable it was despite the stiffness.

Ola's form is better than yours :p
As for the racquet, it looks sweet but im afraid it will still be a little too much for my shoulder :(

Thank you for a great review.

To me, the grip size on the Babolats run larger than the Prince grips. For my TT95, I use the 4 3/8 with leather grip. For my Babolats, I use the 4 1/4 grip with the leather grip. The Babolat grips still feel larger than my TT 95for some odd reason.

Grip size on Babolats, for me, always seem to be a bit bigger than other manufacturers. That said, it might be more of the shape, rather than actual measurement, and doesn't really bother me. Good luck

Honestly, I much prefer the black drive 2012 paint. I agree with your assessment on the playability though. Funny I liked the 2015 PD more than the 2012, but I much preferred the Roddick 12 version to the 15 Tour. I'm 25 and my arm was screaming at me when I demoed the Pure Drive Tour and I have zero problems with the Pure Drive Roddick that I switched to.

Thanks for the update. I'm assuming the VS Touch was in the mains?

Always. I personally feel placing gut in the crosses is a waste of the best string ever produced. I enjoyed hitting with the frame for the few days I was testing it out. Unfortunately, I pulled a muscle in my lower back (recurring injury), and wasn't so enthusiastic the day we filmed. I'm really looking forward to hitting with the Pure Aero Pro.

I don't like the 2015 version. It needs to be exactly 3 points more head light then I would buy several of these, as is too hard to manuver. One thing I do like is that fact that they moved the sweet spot Up. also it seem to have bigger more generous sweet spot as well.

How does the Pure Drive 2015 compare to the 2010 version? I liked that racquet a lot and I want to know the differences between the 2

IMHO ,,, pure drive 2015 was super stiff, hollow, kill my elbow , one of the worst frame along with Graphene Xt Speed pro ,,,

I don't seem to have any problems with the arm since the Apd Gt was my racquet of choice for so long srung with Rpm Blast at 55 lbs. I also tried Pure Drive Gt and Wilson Burn 100 and I still don't have any problems with my arm
