As promised, here is my review of the 2015 Babolat Pure Drive model.
As I stated in a previous thread, when I first got a chance to see the frame, I absolutely loved the paintjob. Definitely one of the nicer paint schemes that came out this year. Great colors, with the darker black matt inside the yolk and head of the frame really brings out the lighter colors.
The new string pattern in my opinion is the real high-light of the frame, as it opens up this frame to a new market. Those who turned away from the Pure Drive line because of its "harsh" feel will find a more plush and softer feel when hitting the center of the string bed. The new string pattern, which is much tighter at the 12 o'clock position, results in a more open pattern between the 3 & 9 o'clock, which of course then provides a more forgiving and comfortable hitting area. The frame still provides all the attributes of previous generations including a fairly easy to swing frame with plenty of power, spin, and stability. It still remains fairly stiff, and still feels like you are hittin a "pure drive", but with a bit more comfort.
For a 300 gram frame, the Pure Drive has always had plenty of plow, and this version is no different. Hard hit incoming shots are met with a stable frame that returns the favor with a crisp response with plenty of punch, and very little twisting. Racquet gets thru the strike zone easily, and is extremely easy to handle throughout a hitting session. Frame performed very well on groundies, volleys, and serves. Access to spin came easily as did being able to drive thru and flatten out shots for put-aways. All in all, a great addition to the classic Pure Drive line.
As always, go out and take it for a demo to make up your own minds. Thanks, and let me know if you have any questions.
