Babolat Pure Storm Tour +

I just received my PST+ today and strung it up at 52lbs. with Timo 18. I have been playing the Pure Drive + for the last 7 or so years and have tried many other frames. I am now teaching part time (20+ hours/week), and playing at a consistently high level (5.0+) against similar opposition. I love the PDs, but I want to switch because of the amount of doubles I play. I find I serve well with most frames, especially extended well, but my quick volleys are so much crisper with a heavier frame. The Pure Storm Tour + feels lighter than the Pure Control + in hand and when swinging (I found the older Control series to run on the heavier side of specs...especially my APC+s which ran 13.2 strung. I have not yet played with the stick, but bouncing the ball on it, I have several observations. I strung my Pure Control + up today with Polyfibre TCS at 52lbs as well. The PST+ feels softer/flexier for sure, and is definitely more dead in the upper hoop. It definitely feels smoother in the hand and in the sweetspot, but that may not translate to a more effective ball. I actually was just about to make the transition to the PC+ back in October, but I figured I would wait since they weren't being produced anymore. I stuck with the Drives in the end, and I may very well wind up back with them. There is nothing quite like a racket affair. I am playing tomorrow morning and will post my findings then. I'm pretty excited about it. I allow myself one blind racket per year (since I use a 5/8 grip and poly strings...demos are often worthless to me). I skipped my blind frame in 2007 (the year when I went back to my blind frame from 2005 (the Pure Control +). My blind frame in 2006 was the Pure Storm Team, which I found great except it was light, thereby rendering it underpowered on my two handed backhand.

After one outing, I am very disappointed in the PST+ as a replacement for the PC+. It is definitely lower powered and more flexy and lacks that crisp feel. The conditions were slow today, so maybe I will like it more next time, but for now...it looks like the PD+ is my stick.

I doubt your opinion changes much next time...

Apparently a lot more people feel that way than I realized.

hti with it today. Definitely a low powered frame. However it swings nice though. Not too heavy. Definitely have to string it low. Not a bad frame though. I think it would be great for an all court player.

It does swing easily but I am an all courter with a strong serve and volley component. It lacks the punch on that transitional ball that isn't an east approach (ie 1/2 volley or low volley).

Danman,

I think the PureStormTour's play very well and pretty crisply with synthetic guts as opposed to poly's strung low. I sting mine at 58 lbs (constant pull) with OG Micro 17g and it feel great to me. I've tried many, many different racquets. I've owned PureDrives, PureStormTeams, AeroProDrives, AeroProDriveCortex's, Volkl DNX 10 Mids and Mid Plus's, nSix-One 95's 16X18 and 18 X20, nTourTwo's, Speedport Blacks, Speedport Pro White, and a Microgel Prestige Pro. And I find the Purestorm Tour (strung as above) is a great mix of power and feel and directional as well as depth control. I feel it is solid on volleys.

I also got a chance to hit with my friend's old PureControl (swirly red/black pattern). I did feel the PureControl felt a bit more solid, and I would consider buying a couple of them from her, but the grips are 1/2 and I've gone down in grip size from 1/2 to 1/4 with overgrips and I like that quite a bit. And I also felt the difference between the PC and the PST was not big enough to matter to me. She has a couple of brand new, never been strung before, plastic on grip PureControls (swirly). So I was very tempted.

Anyway, you might want to try a cheap syn gut strung a bit tighter to get that crisp feel.

Good luck.
