Babolat Sensor Dual

What about a Star 3, Star 2, 3002, etc.? Are those load cell machines? I thought most if not all electronic machines used a load cell to detect the tension.

AFAIK the Star 2 & 3 do not have load cell's. The 3002 may as it appears to be virtually the same as the Star 4 but with a different turntable.

Most electronic, especially cheap ones do not have a load cell. That's part of the reason they're so cheap. You wouldn't expect an Eagnas electronice machine to have the same feature as a Babolat especially at a much cheaper price. As for other top end machines i.e. Baiardo, Yonex, TF, I don't know. Again, maybe Albert Lee with chime in again.

I spoke to Albert this morning, he was telling me the Star 2 used a megatron, but the Star 3 used a load cell, but it was analog, not digital like the Star 3.

I knew Albert would pull thru with the info. I knew some of the info, but was unsure in completness.

Sorry if anything I said was incorrect, it was my intention to mislead in anyway, but hoped it did partially explain the difference between cheap electronics and expensive ones

Star 2, 3 Measurement Reference

Small Correction:

Star 2 and 3 use a reference spring with a megatron to measure spring compression during pull.

Star 4, 5, and Sensors use a loadcell reference.

OK.. does anyone know what the difference is between a V1 and V2 version of the Babolat's Base clamp is.. any pictures?
Thanks!

^^^If you're talking on the Sensor, then I understand that the V1 has to springs in the base whereas the V2 has 1. The issues with the V1 was if 1 spring broke, then you cant use the base and have to replace it then, and it can be tricky for the novice.

I was thinking the same thing also, it's internal. So you really can't tell unless you open it up. Though I'm curious to see what it looks like.

All 4 of my springs were broke. While I'm waiting for my springs to arrive, I want to take off the top plate of the turntable. So I can clean the inside. You would not believe how much dirt and cut string ends are in there. There is only so much you can get to through the access holes. How hard is it to remove the top plate?

I can't be sure about the Sensor, but the S5 is a cake walk.
IF it's like the 5, remove the OUTER allan screws.
The one's in the center attach the clamp bases to the table. The table will then just lift off

That's what I thought, but what about the mouting towers? The plate looks tucked in under the base of the towers.

Well I got home today.. and much to my surprise.. lookie lookie..
a package from none other than Babolat.. what could this be?

Ohhh how sweeeeet! Sensor Base clamps holders

CIMG1079.jpg

to replace my worn and tired ones!

CIMG1081.jpg

Wow.. they look fresh and ready not the tired drooopy things as before..

CIMG1082.jpg

It was a nice surprise today from a very helpfull fella at Babolat and I can't say good enough things about everybody here. Thank you for all your help for me and others trying to make sense of a task that is certainly daunting to me. Again, Thanks and maybe someday I can too return the favor of a newbie trying to make make sense of it all.

Makes it a little easier huh?

what about this.. how do you like my new bumpers?

I think they are pretty cool, and they work well too..

Leather about 3/16 inch thick, cut out and beveled so it won't catch the strings.. besides, I love leather..

You know.. I installed the base clamps and one installed very well, very free rotation no sticking or anything..
the other still stuck at some point when in a weird rotation, so I took it back apart and re cleaned everything and with the two metel discs, I put the bottom one on top and vise versa. That seemed to work well as now it is free spinning and rotating with out hitch.

One thing I do notice though and maybe someone can say something about it is that though the base moves very smoothly it does have a metal to metal type sound. Well only one, which I guess is scrapping somewhere.. is that normal, in that I shouldn't be alarmed all machines have their quirks and what not.

Or should it be smooth, gliding like on teflon..(which is how I would imagine it should be)?

Nice pads. Let me know how long thay last.

In the video the French guy said to clean the discs. I guess when you clean the discs, it removes some of the dirt that filled the holes. eventually they will glaze up again and be more smooth.

Well you would not want to lubricate the discs. They may not hold if you do. Unless someone tells me something different.

was the french guy pink? LOL
oh wait.. the sensor was pink
the french guy was green.
and he has installed and removed those things more than once.

Hmm....what vid? Post a link, please.
I've never needed to tear mine apart but Vahn, (used to be with Bab) told me a rubber pad (of sorts) is what comes in contact with the top of the table.
I would think the S5 and Sensor have the same type of clamp base system, although the S5 c/b are bigger.
I'm sure Albert could clarify if he sees this.

Albert told me the Sensor Clamps can be used on the Star 5. Apparently they have the same base clamp system under the table. The only difference is the clamp base.

As for the video, I'll try posting it somewhere or email it to you. It's really a boring video. Nothing you don't figure out on your own. In fact I had already dis-assembled my base clamps before seeing the video. Putting it back was just as easy.

Thanks for the complements!:)

I'm finally stringing regularly on my Sensor. After replacing the base clamps, the difference was night and day. Much more smoother to move them than when I first got them. It's almost a dream to string on this machine.

^^ it's great to hear that the new base clamps make stringing a dream! hopefully i'll be able to experience that feeling one day, too!

They are tired, the first time they lost on this road trip, but three in a row? I hope Kobe was saving himself for the All-Star Game.

Did you get a hold of Vinny?
