Backhand

I have a one handed backhand and I am having trouble with it. I don't seem to be hitting though the ball I am more just brushing up on the back of the ball. Also I get the contact zone rong by hitting to much out in front of my body and not hitting to the side of my body. Also my body weight always seems to fall back instead of going forward. On the backhand where do you point you front foot?. Maybe with my back hand I am not bringing the racket below the ball?

I know what the problem is that I was not extending my non dominate hand out away from my body while hiting.

Hey. I'm also hitting a one backhand. REmember, you have to be much more in balance and contact point is always at knee level ( Unless you're rather skilled). If you hitting it more like a doublebh, close to your body, you might do the same pattern and then a wrong swing / brushin'. Remember to move, on your right knee contact point infront and grip not extreme, but close to continental, ( that makes it easy to hit flat and not bad brushin).

sounds like you are straightening your arm and then hitting the ball. the arm is folded in the backswing position, i.e. bent, and then you unfold it, not straighten it. the front foot should be pointing at the ball, which is ahead of you and to the side a bit, and not the side fence. you're welcome to check out revolutionarytennis.com's backhand step.

Wow, it seems we have the creator of that site, Mr. Mark Papas, amongst us.

Welcome! Your input is very appreciated.

Tennis Mag has a nice little 4 picture description of the Gasquet backhand. Some interesting similarities to the Guga backhand.
