Badosa playing around with face and wrinkles

G.O.A.T.
Sure.

"The Spanish tennis star Paula Badosa has apologised after she was accused of racism over a photo that appeared to show her pulling her eyes back with chopsticks while in China for a series of tournaments."
...
“We weren’t even imitating Asian people,” she wrote in response. “I was playing around with my face and wrinkles.”

Will be hard to repair the damage, unless she changes her name to Chang!
Maybe Stefanos will suggest it.

Absolutely beautiful country with a beautiful overall culture, but unfortunately quite racist as well.

I immediately recalled that incident from '08 when I heard the news. Spain does seem to have a serious racial sensitivity problem.

Her coach is an absolute stooge. Still not half as dumb as Badosa for doing it in the first place though.
What's he done besides posting this unfortunate pic? (Serious Q, BTW.)

My impression is there are a lot of bad stories coming out of these Chinese Tournaments this year. I dont know what it is but everyone has their dander up.

is it true she withdrew from wuhan becuz of this? o_O
Look, it's important to be very vigilant and punish racists whenever we see them.

This is a very necessary step in the war against racism. Now there is one less racist playing tennis in China. The world is a better place. I think we can all agree on this.

Because their eyes literally look like that.

Many of you should look up the meaning of "racist". Is her action discriminatory or prejudice toward Asians? No, it's just her being silly with no malice. It's all about intent.
This. Nothing here is "racist", a lot of you have been socialized into believing it is racist, and have not grown out of it.

If intent is all that matters, then I encourage people to paint their faces black and walk around NYC at 2AM alone, and explain to everyone that they are just being silly and having fun. Good luck.

Do the eyes of east Asian people not look like this? Races mock each other's looks all the time! When was the last time you went outside?
First of all, this is a false statement / over generalization. I am "east Asian" (let's remember from geography class that this includes many countries and backgrounds), as are many of my friends and our eyes do not look like that.

Secondly, whether our eyes look like that is irrelevant. There is a reason why the practice of "black-face" is frowned upon and it's not because of the accuracy of the skin tone.

Thirdly, does your term of "mocking" of a certain race's look not confirm that its racism? What does "mocking someones look because of their race" sound like?

Where's the discrimination or prejudice in her photo? And explain it to me like I'm a five year old.
Social Media has spoken and made its judgment. It doesn’t need to explain itself. She has withdrawn. All is right with the world again.

Please learn from this. I don’t want to have to tell you again.

1. People overgeneralize on many features/behaviors, and this is generally socially accepted.

2. Outside of the scope of this conversation, and no, the skin tone was accurate, it was just done to portray blacks poorly, so it was socially frowned upon.

3. No, I consider racism to be the hatred of another ethnic group or the attempt to harm said ethnic group because they belong to that ethnic group.

Asian eyes does not fit this category.

It is the equivalent to someone wearing a blond wig around Denmark or something.
