I have a load of new tennis balls still in their tubes and was wondering .... Will the balls still have the same playing characteristics if i..

1) Open the tubes and put them straight into my basket, then leave them for a week or two.

2) Open them on the court 5 min before my lessons.

However there is an issue of space as i have a small uni room. So im heading towards option 1 unless there is a huge difference.

if you open them up and let them sit for a week or two they will probably be really flat when you go out to play with them. i would wait til the last possible moment to open them if you can. opening one or two cans per lesson then filling up your basket that way would probably be best.

They'll have lost a lot of pressure if you open them and leave them for a week or two. Why not put the cans, unopened, into the basket for starters -- that can save some space.

They will lose air if they are left to dry out. If you can get a pressurized box (I don't know where to buy them) you can empty all of them and they will act like new.

The Tretorn Micro X balls are great for baskets. They don't go flat until they break. I get a bucket of 90 and they last about a year. I put about 60-70 in my basket and just replace the busted ones throughout the year.

The other option is the pressurizer, but if you want consistency, especially with a ball machine, the Tretorns are probably better.

I need to get myself one of those, now where do i find one :-?

I think you can make one. It has to be temp-controlled (so I think a cooler should be a base) and then you need to basically squeeze the air out with some device to pressurize the balls. I dunno, I'm not a physics professor. :-?

Im always amazed by how quikly opened balls die in my cold laundry room. When i go out and use them on a nice winters day my serves arent quite the same lol
