Barbora Krejcikova beat all TOP 3 players at one event and won the title!

So Barbora nalbandianded WTA:sneaky:

ps
Watched bits of F, Iga didn't have legs. Too stacionary. Their previous F was great match!

Previous runs with wins over all TOP 3 players at one WTA event:

Swiatek has only lost 5 sets in her last 14 appearances in WTA tournament finals, with Krejcikova winning 4 of those 5 sets. Krejcikova also had 2 match points in their match in Rome in 2021.

It's still amazing to think that at / ahead of the 2019 US Open, Krejcikova suffered the 15th defeat of her career in a grand slam qualifying draw. I really took notice of her singles-wise during her run to the final of this same tournament 2 years ago, when she won 5 matches and then put in a credible performance against an in-form Muguruza. A couple of months later it's safe to say her singles career really took off.

Barbora at least escaped another forum deletation thread as none will discuss her marketability as GS champ in both singles &doubles .That’s quite big win on here because some posters can’t help themselves

What does she do that bothers Iga? I did not watch any of those matches and am curious.

Even more impressive given Sabalenka and Swiatek's form...

Sabalenka was undefeated this year (15/15). This was her first loss in 2023.

Swiatek had never lost a set in a Major final (Slam or M1000). And she had only lost 5 games in Doha and 9 games in Dubaï so far.

Crazy stuff. From what I've seen, only Steffi, Serena and Venus beat 3 top-3 to win a title...

She also beat the world no. 8 in R2, and world no. 15 in R3 (Kvitova), after beating a player ranked in the top 40 and only 9 players below her (Begu) in R1, so an excellent title winning run all round.

Her variety looks to really unsettle Iga, notably with her smooth and fluid hitting, disguise on her shots, angles and slice. Iga struggles to read what she is going to do next.

Also her return of serve, with her ability take the ball early and hit deep, can really punish Iga's vulnerable serve and put her on the back foot.

Iga is of course not a mere ball-basher, but yesterday when she became increasingly desperate she increasingly played like one just trying to hit the ball harder.

Their Ostrava final last year was a lot a fun to watch.

In terms of Serena's Miami 2002 win, her QF win against Hingis was brutally one sided, with Hingis only winning 6 points in the 2nd set, and only hitting 4 winners - she only hit a combined total of 12 winners in their last 3 matches against each other. Richard Williams, under the guise of sympathy, couldn't resist gloating afterwards.

Then her SF demolition of Venus in around 50 minutes was a clearly a big turning point in terms of her career trajectory and their h2h, as she soon overtook her sister and became the undisputed best player in the world. She only hit 10 UEs in that match I believe while Venus was a UE-machine. Still Venus had won 71 out of her last 75 matches on outdoor hardcourts, and her last 22 matches at Miami, going into that SF.

The final against Capriati was the only one of the 10 straight matches they played against other from RG in 2001 to Wimbledon in 2003 which didn't go to a deciding 3rd set. But it still lasted more than 2 hours, with Capriati breaking 3 times in the 1st set, and twice serving for the 2nd set with Serena needing to fend off 7 set points. Capriati had 8 match points in the previous year's final against Venus, and in the next year's final again against Serena won the opening set before suffering her 3rd straight final defeat at the tournament.
