I Play Baseball myself, it is an awfully tough and frustating game but it is great. disadvantage is that it takes so much time and has a lot of waiting. in Tennis you hit hundreds of balls in an hour and in a Baseball game you bat only 4-5 times in a 3 hour span. in the field you get more Action but it also depends on the Position.
but there is no greater Feeling in sports than hitting a HR (maybe knocking someone out in boxing but I have not done that).

If you were to ask me "hey Max, if you were able to be a professional athlete, would you be a pro tennis player?" I would say, "No. I'd most like to be a pro hockey player, followed by being a Pro baseball catcher."
For Dominic above, yeah, there's a stand-around factor in baseball that's a drag, and this is why tennis and hockey are more exciting. But consider all the standing around, etc., in football: this turned me off the sport at a very early age: one or two minutes of action, followed by seven or eight minutes of standing around, shuffling.

The games take forever; the game has all these silly 'unwritten rules'; umpiring is terrible and only finally started using technology. With expansion there are too many players who just suck.
Fewer kids (by %) play it.
Oh, and the Steroid Era.
As far as attendance, they do a good job of marketing. Compared to other sports, it's a cheaper night out.

They could speed it up a lot by allowing only 2 strikes and 3 balls. But baseball is very conservative, and I'm sure they'd never do that.

I would hazard a guess that there are fewer kids than before playing sports, since there are many more options (video games) available. Also, don't overlook the professionalization of kids sports in the US, the year-round training, etc., which drives out many, many kids who don't or can't or won't make this solipsistic commitment. I think tennis is just barely holding its own.

That's what the juiced balls and the steroid era was all about. EVERYBODY (except me) was so excited during the Sosa / McGuire home run derby season. I didn't watch baseball from '95 (strike year) until just recently, when scorelines started getting back to "normal". Not interested in 17-14 games with 5 homers on each side.
You're nuts!...being a catcher destroys your body, and hockey has more players miss games due to injury than any other major sport. Hockey would be super fun though...if I were going to pick it'd be basketball or golf. Basketball is glamorous, you can play a long time, and you make a ton of money, with a low chance of getting seriously hurt. Golf you can play FOREVER, and you travel around to play tournaments in the most magnificent places. Next two would be soccer and tennis(tennis only if I were a top 5 player or so)
Football american football has more missed time for injury than hockey by far .
You would think so. Read an article yesterday saying that hockey players on average miss more time due to injury than football players. I'll try and find it again.

I just dont buy it. Maybe when you include entire team and average it somehow. Football has like 40 some guys onna team. Some of which dont play much.

There is no other sport like baseball. You have to rely on your teammates but at the same time you out there by yourself.
I coach high school and every year we get these gets who are stud football players and baseball humbles them real quick.
In high school football in the state of MD just being fast is enough to be a good football player. But those guys come out to play baseball and struggle.
It takes too much practice so a lot of kids don't play it. They get up to bat and cant hit and get mad. But then they don't practice to get better.
That's the most frustrating part about coaching.

I always find "more people" arguments to be faulty at best.
You have to factor in population growth, money, advertising etc. when talking about popularity of something.
Thats with anything. Baseball attendance figures are huge. And not just major leagues minor leagues as well. I really think the baseball is dying or dead crowd really doesnt pay attention to baseball.
