I don't want him to play Paris. He messed up at the USO because of Montreal, so I don't want him to mess up his WTF chances because of Paris.
The difference is, there's a week between the end of Paris and the start of the WTF. Montreal and Cincy were back to back weeks.

If the CT scan Delpo had on the wrist missed something, Roger's FH scan will find it. A thorough procedure, administered by Dr. Federer in clinical fashion.

Two sets.

no, he wanted to troll Murray in the 2009 YEC.
Hence losing from 3 all in the 3rd set. Had BPs on delpo's serve. Did not take those.
Then got broken with a below par service game.

2012 RR - he had qualified already IIRC.

In 2013, when he really needed to qualify for the semi, he fought back and won in the 2013 RR match.

---

having said that, delpo is a threat in his USO-current form, no doubt.
Still the best and funniest thing Fed has done in terms of gamesmanship.

This is the end of the 3rd week of playing nonstop for Delpo: SF at SH, F at Stockholm and now F again at Basel, not to mention Beijing before all that (though admittedly he lost early in R16). That's 4 consecutive weeks of play.

Don't see him beating Fed at all this time. Fed's not gonna lose to him for the 3rd time at his home, in this form, and also being much fresher.

Voted for Fed in 3 out of respect for Delpo and their record here but I think Fed will likely get it done in straights this time.

Delpo's playing Paris next week so it's gonna be 5 straight weeks of play for him. I have no doubt he will be gassed for Paris and WTF, if he can make it. :-s

Was just reading through the Federer presser thread in GPPD. Didn't get a chance to finish reading it before it was nuked just now. Some good content in there. Really solid stuff. :)

Unfortunately epic posts get deleted far too often here. However, some of them live eternal in our memories and are a source of entertainment for years to come.

Having just seen the highlights of both SF's again I have to say it doesn't look to good for Delpo. Looked laboured, lost his serve once each set and was really helped by Cilic not moving in often enough, as well as spraying errors of both wings. It could take 3 sets but Roger's FH looking ominous. It will take a serving clinic to stop him.

This will be their first meeting in the final of Basel since 2013. Del Potro is 2-1 vs Federer in Basel and won both back to back finals they played there in 2012 and 2013. If anybody has the credentials to take the Maestro on in his home tournament it has got to be Del Potro! Plus he will come into the match as the only player to have beaten Federer in a Slam this year (quarter-final of US Open) and taking their most recent encounter to the distance (semi-final of Shanghai).

If both come into this match all guns blazing we could be in for a real blockbuster!!

I have to admit I never feel at ease when Fed meets Del Potro. That forehand terrifies me.

Of course it gets deleted when it is Federer :rolleyes:

del potro hurts fed b/c fed is often very stubborn when they play. he hits way too many forehands inside in from the center of the court or from the ad side. if he doesn't hit it big enough (which is tough b/c it's over the high part of the net) then del potro has a running forehand into fed's forehand corner.

if federer has a forehand from the portion of the court then he should go inside out 8 out of 10 times. only go back to del potro's forehand enough to keep him honest.

Any good streams available?

BTW, here's a tip for y'all in case you didn't know: installing the Mobdro app on you cellphone will allow you to view a lot of TV channels free, including the Tennis Channel.

Nah. Lots of stuff is getting deleted recently regardless of topic or player. Usually happens when "my player is better than your player" type arguments break out, and I understand that to an extent. Don't think it has anything to do with Federer specifically.

Federer looks nervous. I don't understand why he respects Delpo so much. He needs to relax and just move him around. Bautista Agut showed how to do that for a set and a bit earlier.

This is becoming a pattern with Federer. Can't consolidate after breaking.

0-5 in Basel after losing the first set
7-0 after winning the first.

We shall see.
