Baseliner needs a control racquet that still serves hot

I am a 4.0 baseliner, currently playing with the Prince More Approach. It has way too much power. Balls regularly fly long when I am hitting out. I hit with plenty of spin, but the racquet just doesn't have the control I need.

Typically most control racquets I have tried, take away all the power from the serve and returns too.

Anyone have any suggestions? I have been looking at the Prince Diablo or Wilson nCodes.

Thanks!

From your descpription of your play, I would think the Fischer Pro One will meet your requirements.

Pro 1 is an excellente choice ;).

However, on a side note, I am a serve/volleyer and the Pro 1 has no faults whatsoever at the net and it is one of the smoothest volleying racquets I have found, next to the 6.0 85. It rallies at the backcourt well, and it excels at the net too, for me.

I second robkat and Cobra Tennis - Pro #1 is a good choice.
In my racquet collection I have also Yonex SRD Tour and Prince Diablo MP and both are worth to try.

Head Instinct Tour XL has power, control, heft, and comfort if strung at the low-end of range. Initially strung at 20 kg, but strings moved too much

How about i.prestige mid or mp? Since you are coming from a more approach, maybe the midplus version will suit you better.

Yonex MP Tour 5 is a great stick, especially for a baseliner (though very maneuverable at net). 11.5 oz range, 27.5", and helps generate plenty of spin. I'd give it a try.

I agree w/ the Pro No 1 and the i.Prestige. Having it with each you'll find what you need there. If you have a really fast swing, the i.Prestige will give you the spin you need... and I've hit the hugest (flat) serves I ever have w/ the i.Prestige mid.

The Pro 1 is really nice, I highly recommend it from my short time demoing it, Ill probably switch to it, if the my rdx 500 mp demo doesnt beat it out.

I, personally, would suggest the Prince Original Graphite (POG) MP or OS.

It's a great racquet for baseliners, and it will certainly allow you to improve without having to get a new stick.

I used to have the same problem as you (I, too, am roughly 4.0 and a baseliner and I found that balls kept sailing out with my Wilson H4). I now use a POG OS and I have found it to have a superb amount of control and spin--both of these will keep those balls from flying out.

You may want to try the Prince Graphite Longbody. Great spin, good control, plenty of power on serves.

i used the pmapproach for 2 years .....its a great racket and also very light. im guessing being a 4.0 player you would want to stay on the "light" side of things. most of the above suggestions would be great if your played @ a 4.5 level or higher. i would say maybe switch to a more "control" orianted stick but still is light enough for you to manuver.
try the Volkl 6 tour or maybe the dunlop 300g both are very flexible and will let you hit the ball where you want it. but because of the weight your going to have to add the "punch" yourself. the prince m approach is light but is kinda stiff. i also dont think directing you to a "players" stick like the lm prestige, diablo, ficher, yonex 5 series or an org graphite is the anwer, there way to heavy!..................have fun!

I think that as long as you have full swings, weight should not be a problem. I use to think that racquets with high swingweights were hard to manuver and would make me lose head speed. Well, it might have done that, but it also slowed down my swing and gave me a whole lot of confidence in my shots. Light and siff racquets feel flimsy and are too weak at times to put away shots. Im only around a 3.5/4.0 player and I love the heavy, flexible player sticks out there(though I am young). Dont be afraid of using heavy sticks unless you're older and need to watch out for injuries. I use to avoid any sticks with swingweight thats higher than 325 and static weight higher than 12 oz, and now I love using these type of sticks. Some suggestions i have are the LM Prestige MP, LM Radical MP(underrated by some prestige lovers and its stable because of the high swingweight), PT280(good feedback from others and I have a racquet similar to it and i love it), POG OS(this is pretty darn heavy actually but it plays nicely although flat serves were a little slower), and Ti.Radical OS(very good racquet thats very versatile). Sorry I dont have any more suggestions but I just wanted to remind you to not be intimidated by some of the heavier and supposedly more demanding sticks. With the exception of sticks like the PS 6.0 85 or the Fischer Pro Extreme FT, I think you'll find many of the sticks less demanding than they appear to be.
