Batman Comics

I've decided to start reading and collecting Batman comics and am wondering if anyone on the board could help me choose what to get: Batman or Detective Comics? There are other Batman comics (any suggestions I wouldn't mind), but I would really like to focus on the two mentioned before (which I know to be the main two). So, what are the differences between the two comics? What makes one comic "better" than the other? Which one should I choose? Etc.

Also, what Batman graphic novels are good to get? I know Batman: The Dark Knight Returns is probably the best, but what else?

Any information about usual price of the comics and/or graphic novels at comic book stores or book stores would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

"Hush" is supposedly a really good graphic novel. also you want the Batman from the Frank Miller years.

The_Dark_Knight: I can see by your name that you are a Batman fan. Do you read the comics? If so, which is better: Batman or Detective Comics? (This is what I want to know about the most.)

There are more batman comics than those two. Go to Dc comics.com. Detective Comics and Batman comics are equally good. They're basicly the same thing.

Yeah, I know there's more, but from what I have heard from people, those two are the most popular. What are the differences between the two? (There has to be some, or they'd be the same, right?)
