Battle by the Border: Matt Lin vs. San Diego

Always a good reminder to hit with a 65. I have a Head Pro in my home office and I the image of Bob Lutz using one with Stan Smith in doubles remains in my mind.

Yes someone did point out that they were the #1 doubles team at one time.

But they are all about hitting the forehand with a slightly OPEN face.

Some sets were on clay and there were lots of bad bounces, even though the courts are very well maintained. I can imagine that facing bad bounces on clay with a 65 sq inch woodie left little margin for top spin.

It's cool we both met Laver within weeks of each other.

Laver seems to be a genuinely simple man.

He is still quite mentally and physically active. He asked me whether I knew the results of the DC doubles rubber between USA and Australia. He was following that keenly. Then he and Owen Davidson (a former Australian pro) mentioned Nick Kyrgios but I walked away as I did not want to eavesdrop. While the other pros were into jokes, banter, and witty repartees, Laver was serious all the time. He seemed to be like a tennis academician more than a player.

Then from 1 pm to 4 pm, Laver was on a clay court under the hot sun, giving 15 minute lessons to one amateur after another. He never once sat down! With each person, he sincerely went through the same steps of making them play forehands, backhands, volleys and serves, and offered them his tips. Quite remarkable for a 78 year old man who had a stroke.

All the more proof that Borg was GOAT until Sewretch. He played wood on clay and lost two matches at RG hitting crazy topspin.

Well, we was often second place to Borg but he had very nice topspin forehand and backhand too.
Yes, a lefty Borg Lite. I played those Head Vilas frames for a long time before switching to a real Head graphite stick. The Vilas had the open throat and just a thin layer of graphite laminated into the wood.

Did you guys know that I recently became a USPTA-certified recreational coach? Just pay the member dues and take the 21 rather comprehensive and lengthy video lessons, and take a quiz after each lesson. No on-court evaluation for the rec coach category.

To say that the lessons are dated would be an understatement. Roddick is referred to as an upcoming American player.

And yeah, John Yandell is thanked somewhere for his contributions.

You may address me as Coach from now on.

Do you include a copy of this vid with your first lesson?:

The camera selfie angle makes me look much larger than I am, if the letters have to be visible.
Satellite photography is the only way you aren't going to look humongous, let's face it. The Two Thirds rule doesn't apply to you. Anyone can consider themselves a master photographer if they can get Two Sevenths of Your Holeyness in the frame. Three Tenths would be a miracle.

Had anyone hired suresh yet for coaching? Is there a Yelp review out yet? I know his Suresh Tennis Center is on Yelp.

I cannot conceive of a world without Sureshs. How did people get by in the 1870s? Say it ain't so, bro.
They went to war and killed each other, I would guess.
They had no idea they were the last generations to enjoy clean fresh air.

Djokovic, I think. But he is still down in the dumps.

What if someone hires suresh for coaching but runs away without tipping, sureshs style. Would suresh like that ?
