I will be volunteering here on Friday, operating their live feed and doing score keeping for the umpire:

http://tennislink.usta.com/Tournaments/TournamentHome/Tournament.aspx?T=188291

It is the 2nd oldest tournament in the United States. Some of the tournament’s past champions have been Jack Kramer, John McEnroe, Arthur Ashe, Stan Smith, Steve Johnson, Bradley Klahn, Dennis Novikov.
wow, a 128 person *doubles* draw... singles draws don't even get the big here in NY
i'm living on the wrong side of the US.

"SUNNY" California usually allows 4 days a week of outdoor play in the winter. Now, SoCal allows MORE than that.
But, not every tournament is a huge draw big event....certainly not like in the late '70's.

No spare bedroom available, Suresh is willing to share his bed.

Some coaches give their best lessons between the sheets.

Sure, then we will see a 'Dali grabbed my balls' thread or something.

I was being serious. I will come down if I can get to stay with suresh and hang with him and Anshul.

Let me know if you guys come to Bali. I may be able to help out with accommodations or at leat provide some good tips.

Sorry to derail, I will start my own Battle by the Equator thread.

A sensual and sureshsian meeting between the Poobah and Joal would change the entire landscape of California Recreational Tennis forever.

Just imagine Joal feeding soft and warm volleys to cuddly Sureshs as he huffs and puffs in constant rhino charges; hunting down the filthy yellow Spalding balls and gently arcing them back over the net with a hint of classic topspin.

Stop by and we can play tennis. It is on the way to this New Delhli sandwich place.

My private jet does not go to Bali.

Bali is supposedly a place where people live like Indians lived hundreds or thousands of years ago. That is what my brother-in-law told me after a Bali vacation. But I suppose it is all changing if there is a "New Delhi Sandwich place."

I meant the sandwich place is in New Delhli and if you are going to it, Bali is on the way. Looks like my Broadway play on words didn't make it to the traveling show in san diego.

To the detriment of the people's health, there are a few McDs in Bali. It is getting more developed now.

As a deeply religious person, Suresh, you will find Bali to be good for your tennis game as there are Hindu statues and temples everywhere.

Entered scores for 4 matches live. The software shows live feed in one window on which the score gets updated whenever you update it in another window. I was trained on the software. Basically, you need to know how to start live feed, how to start and stop recording, and how to update score after every point, and check the updates shown on the live feed.

Mostly D1 teams - William and Mary, Pepperdyne, Toledo, University of San Diego, UC at Irvine, local UC, Villanova, Stanford etc. Some others including the Director of Tennis at the club who asked me to volunteer. Awesome tennis. Just an entirely different world from club tennis. Sometimes seeing the ball spinning viciously and angling towards you can be scary, Second serves bouncing so high and wide that the ball climbs to the top of the fence. Overhead smashes hit so hard they bounced into the road behind the club.

Got a chance for a selfie with Bill Kellog. He owns the club and his name is synonymous with Davis and Fed Cup arrangements and almost everything tennis in Southern California. Extremely humble man who even works the front desk at times. I had heard of him many times but first time meeting him. I had seen him around when I was volunteering for Fed Cup here many years ago (Bill built a temporary grandstand on his club's golf course) but did not get a chance to speak to him then.

Nah. Kellogg is indeed a legend. But he owned our club circa 1976. The guy he sold it to recently died. Either that's Bill Kellogg Jr. or he's on some serious HGH and not looking his age. Or, he was really young when he owned our club. I'm sure he has many stories about the Leach brothers too.

That ball action that startled you will be perfect to prepare you for your grudge match with LeeDF. His spin serves are known to hit the back fence over halfway up.

You are already shaped like a football. If you can just dress yourself up like a football (monochromatic approximating PMS 18-1142 Leather Brown) our East Bay guru could probably heave you in such a way that you will bounce high enough to hit the back fence. On a good day, he might throw you over the fence. Wear some body armor...The landing could be rough!

Good luck!

Thanks for volunteering and the photos! Good to hear and see you are healthy of body and appetite.

Tell me something. When I watch pro doubles on TV (which is not much), I can see the partners communicating by signals behind their back before a serve.

But all the college teams I scored for yesterday did much more verbal communication. Typically, the net guy would do the signaling by fingers. Then there would be a verbal exchange like Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah alternating between them. Sometimes it would be Show Me Again followed by this Yeah Yeah exchange. Sometimes the server would utter a few words too which I could not catch as my hearing is declining.

Do you guys know if pros also do this or is it a college tennis thing? What exactly is being communicated which needs so much back and forth?

Just imagine sureshez fingers probing the great mysteries of Sentea's inner man child while his beautiful wife watches in disbelief and unwillfully emits a golden frosted pre-spray.

Volunteering:

We need more people like Bill supporting tennis.

Some questions:

You look quite big compared to him. How tall are you?

If a massive cosmic event happened, knocking out all computers, rendering our decisions on whether to use Little-endian or big-endian irrelevent, how would a tech big-indian such as youself adapt and cope in this techless
new world?

I am bigger than him in all 3 dimensions but not proud of it

I just ran into Rod Laver a few blocks from my house. We talked for about 5 mins while waiting for our burgers. He is looking forward to Indian Wells. I took his pic. Will post in a bit...

What I love is that the Rocket, at age 78, is still scarfing down burgers. Fat? Cholesterol? Fvck it - gimme my tasty burger! Awesome.

We were watching rugby, tennis and football {soccer} on the tv's. It was a sports bar type place. He was very lively and animated and funny. Very friendly. He must be a regular there as the employees called him by name. It was pretty cool hanging out with a tennis legend. No ntrp talk.

Any LeeD vs Sureshs sightings?
Nah, I'm still stuck in SF Bay Area awaiting Oserver's appearance at San Pablo Park. Invitation given, so far ignored.
Suresh is 3.5, so good competition for Oserver. I was that level in 1976.
I need to play Shroud. I"ve played his bud Papa Mango, and we both lose to PM, who's 35 year's my junior and another half times quicker around court.
