I suspected as much... ha! Yes, it's amazing what merely consistently getting out of the first round can do to one's ranking... it's the cornerstone of my sleazy "success."

It’s almost as though 90% of the time first-round success in open men rec matches boils down to actually showing up fot the match, on time, somewhat sober and rested, and running after a few balls. Sounds simple, but surprisingly a challenge for a number of young urban professionals these days.:D

Arrived at San Pablo today to find Noah hitting the wall, bunch of 3.5's playing doubles.
Noah is USTA 5.0 last year, played one or two for his League 4.5 team.
I shyly as if he wants to hit. He accepts! Cool! He crushed me 3-3 a week before I played Volleynets.
We get into some really solid deep rallies, good for both of us. I remember to breathe, use long flattish strokes, and provide pace, depth and good placement for him to groove his game. He does the same for me.
Then, a hard hitting but super erratic 3.5 friend shows, and begs into the hitting. Kills the rythum totally, 3 ball rallies now.
Worse, a 4.0 league woman shows and wants to hit.
Ended up playing 3 bad sets of doubles, bad for me, bad for Noah, great for the 3.5 guy and the 4.0 woman.
Noah wins 90% of the points he hits to my partner.
I win 90% of the points I hit to the girl.
Noah vs me, pretty close. He can overpower me, but I can out trick him with angles and low slices. All sets went 5's.
Why bother hitting with 3-3.5's when I can find 4.5's to hit with?
As for 65's. One of the better 65's, a perenial finalist last and this year in 65's, is a peer of mine. We're about 50/50 in points won if we hit to each other. He picks on my weak partner, I don't pick on his partner, rather would beat HIM than his weaker partner. He always wants to hit with me when he shows up on court.

I have a gang of 6.0-6.5 players banging on my door right now. They claim lobster croquettes, fine whiskeys, full-body massages, and round robin hits in the morning.

I hardly use headphones...not healthy for ears.

Actually, using headphones can sometimes be good.
For example, when I watch movies on planes, I use sound-isolating Shure earphones. Becauase the earphones block out a lot of the external noise on the plane, I am able to keep the actual movie audio volume very low.

Just imagine if LeeD took time off to recharge his mortal coil in the Redwood Forest of Humboldt county and he accepts and applies the teachings of the Golden Eagle and he joins a men's 3.5 team and wins nationals and several USTA towels of which he donates to the ITF youth thread posting foundation.

Just imagine...

Yeah, James Hong's been in a lot of things, Kung fu Panda...and the list goes on and on. I only know of him through these animation type references.
and this, "...I just do eye's."

Just imagine if LeeD animated Fantasia and did the final post production from the same van in which he GOATED Date Crum.

Yeah, but everyone knows you're deluded.
He's not deluded. He's actually pretty astute. He realized years ago when he admitted he'd gotten old and his game had dropped to 3.5 that no one would take him seriously when he was critiquing people's videos. Magically, he became a solid 4.0 - and can rally with much higher players and hold his own.

Can someone tell me if our old shameless self-promoter named in the title has ever played a tournament against 5.0s or in Open like he said he would then chickened out?

@sureshs, I don't like to see anyone get hurt. Good luck. But you should still consider cutting back on the carbs...

Then you're a 3.5 then. That wasn't difficult was it?

Ultimate Tennis is also a weaker across the board than UTSA leagues, so if he's just gone up from Ultimate Tennis 3.5 to Ultimate Tennis 4.0(-), it's still going to be USTA 3.5. Ultimate Tennis 3.5 is more like USTA 3.0

The first video is a full level above the other. What does it say about your tennis knowledge the fact you didn't recognize that?

Well, you serve from the baseline, and an overhead has much greater margins. The only issue is you gotta make sure the ball is high enough.

Ultimate Tennis IS USTA singles tennis in my region now. There is no difference anymore if you just want to play singles and not team tennis.

In the first video the server in the white and blue shirt set-up his serve in a foot fault. I guess that takes all of the guess work out.

You could even argue it's better because Ultimate is made up of guys only playing singles. When you play on a USTA team, just 2 of the 5 lines play singles, so lots of times guys get stuck playing singles that aren't really interested in playing singles and just do it because no one else wants to. In the summer when temps are in the mid 90s and you are playing at 4 pm with the sun just searing you, you have to beg people to play singles. USTA teams are made up of mostly doubles players. Hardcore singles players stick to singles-only leagues like Ultimate.

Only speaking for myself, but I have been asked to play on USTA teams and I simply don't have the time to do it. Ultimate was considered weaker but now it is the only USTA singles league, so that has changed here.

Unless my serve catches fire, I don't play enough to do much damage at high levels of rec tennis anyway, so I'm good with whatever is most convenient.

Everyone who's not a newbie on this TW forum have seen vids of JackB1's tennis. He plays fine, moves well, has good mental concentration.
Suresh snipes more than most old timers, not sure why. He's been sniping at me for the past 2 weeks.
From what I remember Jack was around 3.5 on his way to 4.0 with some practice.

I hear ya. Atlanta is same way. Ultimate is the #1 choice around here for highly competitive singles play. Nobody plays in USTA's flex singles leagues and team play is mostly for doubles players. Besides, as long as I get competitive matches, I am happy. Who cares what league it is anyway?

Here in Austin, Texas, I can confirm that Ultimate Tennis is not as strong as USTA teams/tourneys. Quite simply, players who are not as time-committed and dedicated to tennis... will play Ultimate Tennis. Those who play USTA are serious, they commit much more time and money to the endeavor. Hence, they are generally better players for the same rating level.

I have beaten a couple of guys rated by Ultimate Tennis at 4.5. I am nowhere near 4.5. I cannot even sniff 4.5. I checked to see if one of those Ultimate Tennis 4.5 guys had an official NTRP. Guess what? He was NTRP 4.0.

What would be nice is if Texas would do what Florida did and just turn Ultimate Tennis into USTA Flex Leagues. That would help things a lot. But $35 for a flex league flight that only lasts a couple months is a little steep of a price.

Yeah Ultimate tennis was a level down. Once it flipped over to USTA flex in Florida, that has changed. Some matches you will play a guy who is clearly a level lower, and then you will play a guy who is a level higher and did USTA. For me, it's fine, I don't really care that much right now. Whenever I want to get hardcore, I can enter a tournament.

If you're talking about Florida, that's because they merged the USTA / Ultimate flex leagues a couple of years back to try and increase participation. Everywhere else, they're separate.

That's my understanding as well. There are a couple of guys I string for who used to play 4.0 Ultimate. Here, they haven't been able to get out of 3.5 USTA.

Definitely agree with that. Ultimate seems to attract more casual players so the standard tends to be more watered down.

Yes I am talking about Fl.

There are no adult male singles flex leagues available right now in Atlanta, so your only choice is Ultimate here. Anyone who plays in the Atlanta area knows the leve of play is pretty high here. We have the most rec tennis players per total population here of anywhere in the USA.

The Sureshian Sabr Spray has amassed upon the collective faces of all global 4.0 mixed players.

I have also recently seen the top 3.5s in my section applying the Sureshian Sabr Bagel Spray in mixed and singles practice matches.

This posts pretty much illustrates the LeeD Talk Tennis NTRP Exaggeration System.

1. A "5.0" guys shows up. (We'll just take his word for it that he's a 5.0 for now)
2. This "5.0" plays 4.5 league, and sometimes #2 - so we're already down .5
3. A "3.5" shows up who can't hold a rally with LeeD
4. Then a "4.0" woman wants to hit. We'll we already know from LeeD's post history what he thinks of women
5. So, back up to the "5.0", who "crushes" LeeD 3-3 earlier
6. Now, all of a sudden all sets with supposed "5.0" go 5's (what happened to 3-3?)

So, while he claims to be on the decline, the in jury riddled, aging, can't run, can't lift his arms to brush his teeth, is STILL crushing "3.5's" and "4.0s" and hanging with a "5.0". You can't make this stuff up, people... only LeeD can. ;)

Wore the Sureshian Hook Shot tank top to Flex League tonight and my opponent recognized suresh and asked about his hernia.

I smiled and thought it's such a small world that other 4.5 players follow and appreciate suresh.

I played yesterday and one of my practice partners was googling around for rumors and reviews of the Signature Sureshs Gamma Razr between sets.

If he knew the Sureshshian Tank Tee was available, I believe he would have sprayed himself.

I am much better than the typical adult club rec player. I may be temporarily grounded now, but I am laying the foundations of a big comeback. I have changed my serve to be a monster weapon, and with my disabilities taken care of, I will move through the court like Dhaweed Ferrer.

Now that Dhaweed Ferret is planning an epic Monstrous Comeback of Biblical Proportions after skipping US Open 2015, his rivals (¢@pyb@r@ included) should be very very scared to death because Ferret is extremely agile and athletic: He can run up to 65.2 kph, jump up and down, turn somersaults, run sideways and even backwards.

[emoji33] [emoji33] [emoji33] [emoji33] [emoji33] [emoji33] [emoji33] [emoji33] [emoji33] [emoji33]

His rivals should be careful not to lob him as he can run backward very very fast.
