There are not one, not two, but THREE "Battle of the Sexes" films in development:

A lot of big names involved too. Tennis has been, ahem, poorly served in the world of film, so hopefully at least one of these will be good. The Emma Stone one looks promising (gonna be strange finding Billie Jean King hot...)

What other tennis films do you think could be good? I reckon a Bjorn Borg bio could work. Simply titled "BORG", I would look at it as a cross between Antonioni and Bergman. Ryan Gosling would be perfect for the lead.

How about, "Borg:Resistance is Futile"

Honestly I think a bio-pic of Suzanne Lenglen would be interesting, her trend-setting ways, the match with Helen, going pro, then her battle with Leukemia and her young death.

Also, maybe a movie depicting Chris/Martina and their what, decade long rivalry?

A Chris/Martina movie could be really interesting, if they avoid the lazy stereotype of making Chris the villain and Martina the hero. If there becomes a trend for tennis related bio's I expect Martina to be near the top of the list, given her off court story and iconic status.

The one that stands out for me is Alice Marble:

***** as a teenager, struck down with TB as her career is taking off, recovers to become a dominant champion and the worlds leading player, high profile role in the original Wonder Woman comics, miscarriage in a car accident, husband killed in the war a few days later, suicide attempt, becomes a spy for the government, shot by a ****, civil rights activist (Althea Gibson at the US Championships).

Crikey! She got shot by Althea Gibson?

That would certainly make for some bio. Who do you think could play her?

I can't tell if you are joking! It does look like that I admit. Just in case, no, she didn't get shot get Gibson. She was apparently shot by a German Agent.

She helped in allowing Gibson to play the US Championships, a civil rights issue.

Alice Marble would be another fun movie I think, just get the right actress and you could really tell a story. Off the top of my head, Scarlet Johansson? Although maybe I'm typecasting but some of the blackwidow character could transpire into that role

Suzanne Lenglen, I think Marion Cotillard could play her. Not just because she is French, although I think that would be big in terms of relating to off the tennis court cultural references and I think she could do the dynamic with the father well. I almost want to suggest Jennifer Lawrence but that might be bad

As for Chris and Martina...I think it would be better if they started is as two old friends reminiscing about the good old days, then dive into their rivalry and off court lives and how they interwove. Then no one looks like the bad guy.

also, since her name came up, Althea Gibson could be an interesting story of a female's battle against institutionalized racism...however you would need a very good writer to really bring it to the screen in the right way and a darn good actress. Although you could do it from the perspective of Althea in her old age, poor, struggling, then looking back on her life as a champion then have it end when all the fans send her money like the letter writing campaign that took place in her real life (least I think thats what happened). No clue who could play her? Halle Berry?
