Would you like to see a "Battle of the Sexes" again?

It was Riggs and King, now I think soon it will be S. Williams vs. Andy Roddick. Roddick has said that he would like to see how his serve stands against Serena and Serena has said that she has beat guys from the ATP circuit when they were playing together at an academy. Serena has surely got the firepower but nothing compared to Roddick's. We will have to wait and see though....

Someone should try and organize that. That would be fun. Maybe we should get on there official websites and e-mail them the idea.:)

Wait, didn't you see Roddick against Billie Jean King on SNL in 2003?:) He creamed her 6-0 6-0 6-0 6-0 6-0 6-0 6-0.

It might be already in the works....I loved Roddick's appearance on SNL.

Something tells me if one of the women were stupid enough to get involved it would have to be someone who loves to be the centre of attention so much they wouldn't care about being humiliated in front of a million people. Just so long as they got to show off their latest line of trashion, excuse me, fashion. So Serena fits the bill nicely but what current top line male player could be bothered ? Perhaps one of the ex-players with an equal desire to be centre stage, as in Pat Cash, or a lower ranked guy who needs the dough, but what does that prove? Not much!

I don't think they need to fit that criteria. Just find someone idiotic enough to do it. But I think Roddick would fit the fashion thing. He just wears the ugliest clothes. Or we could just make it for charity. That would serve a good cause and there would be plenty of players who would do it for charity.

The original battle had an old guy against a prime woman. To be fair, we'd have to pit Johnny Mac against Serena. Serena would be over matched, however, so maybe Connors would be a better choice.

Billie Jean was not quite in her prime at the time, a little past that. But she was closer to her prime than Bobby Riggs was. The biggest problem I think was that Riggs didn't prepare seriously for the match, while Billie Jean took it dead serious, and won.

bobby riggs either tanked the match against billie jean or played the worst match of his life. connors is past fifty. he might be a good candidate. mac would probably be more than willing. playing women and being in the spotlight would be right up his alley. he would win 6-0 6-0 6-1.

Donald Young against Serenna Williams? How do you think it would go?

The point being....??? He was 56 years old and was known to "drop a few" on a match during his playing days and afterward. I think he bet on Billie Jean and I also think she may have KNOWN this. A battle of the sexes today would be pointless-or else, the only point would be to make a ton of money for the broadcaster and promoters (and players). People WOULD watch it.

I agree Morpheus and Wildbill, I'm pretty sure I've posted before some things said that suggest Riggs tanked. It sure looked like it. Remember this was the same Riggs who had pounded Court into the ground (what a pun! yeah!) just a short time previous. It's a tribute to Rigg's hustle that he sold this one to the public....

Yeah, Phil, I know that even King said in later years that Riggs had actually pestered her relentlessly for a rematch. Not of course because he was genuinely beaten but thought he could win next time...but because that was his plan all along to sell yet another event and get his "revenge". Billy Jean was smart and cut out while she was ahead! I think Riggs actually came to appreciate this and came to accept his part in the event as it was.

No for historical accuracy, let's remember the first tennis battle of the sexes was 55+ year old Bobby Riggs versus Margaret Court the then #1 ranked woman on tour, also known as the mother's day massacre. Riggs in straight sets. Interesting how few remember that match which was also on national TV.
